I d like to start doing wvw with my ele.
Coming from a pu mesmer guess I will focus on zerg.vs.zerg. What kind of builfs sre recommended?
Also, is my pve zerker gear viable ?

Thanks a lot

Berserker gear is where you want to be, but it doesn’t mean you should. For people new to Ele in WvW I recommend starting in PVT and slowly as you get used to it start swapping out pieces for Berserker. If you can stay alive in a zerg fight in full berserker gear right away, all the power to you go right ahead.

For builds I recommend doing something like 0/0/2/6/6/ to start off, once you get used to it and are able to survive you can go for something like 0/0/6/6/2.
Staff is a must

Side note: As im no longer part of a WvW guild (PvX now) i haven’t had the chance to play my ele much in WvW since the new patch. That being said, I’m not sure if the meta has changed for that since the new traits came out, but i don’t see it being that different

Ele in WvW is expected to provide support, especially healing.

I disagree about Berserker gear. Zerg is no place for a glass cannon ele. You need to stay alive to do your job, which is to cast healing during fights.

The main thing is to stay alive, which is why I recommend starting in PVT but if a player can survive in Berserker gear why not? You provide the same support via water fields/static/ Earth but your meteor shower provides an extra punch.

If you run with havoc squads or small teams, your damage output is more important than your group healing, so zerk would work there. But in a zerg of 25+ your damage probably won’t matter as much as your healing and boons.

There is usually a shortage of staff eles in wvw. Two or three in a 25+ zerg is not enough. If you die, you will definitely be missed.

Well then instead of talking about strict gearing options, what would you guys consider to be general stat goels? Like 2500 armor and 15k hp base (before WXP bonuses)? More health? More armor?

I agree with CountzuCrytus.7256 when it comes down to the gear. An Elementalist is squishy and you will struggle surviving in Berserker gear, but if you can, do it. It is possible if you’re good at positioning, if you can’t put in as many PTV/Celestial pieces as you need. Sometimes I run full Berserkers but on difficult assaults I swap in quite a bit of PTV. Only you can decide how much you need.

Just a common misconception I’d like to point out. Most of the Elementalists ‘healing’ in big zerks comes from putting down a Waterfield and people start blasting it like crazy, this is not affected by your healing-power. When people take Cleric Trinkets it’s to make their Ether Renewal heal more, but if that’s a desired effect I’d recommend Celestials for a bit of both worlds.

Buildwise I’ve been playing with:
0 0 4 (III, VIII) 4 (III, X) 6 (V, VIII, XI) since Stability can be invaluable.
0 0 2 (III) 6 (III, X, XI) 6 (V, VIII, XI) more focussed on Condition Cleansing than Stability.
0 6 (VI, X, XIII) 0 4 (III, VI) 4 (V, VIII) using the new air-trait for damage, but I’m unsure how useful it is, besides whilst Tornado’ing around.

Cantrips as utilities with Tornado, Staff, Mix of Celestial/Berserker/Soldier’s gear based on preference with either Strenght Runes (plain DPS) or Hoelbrak if Strenght is too much of an investment. Sigil of Bloodlust with either Strenght or Energy, swapped out to Strenght/Energy at 25 stacks (Bloodlust on Trident) but Sigil of Restoration can be a defensive alternative (you’re not a frontline and should avoid damage, but it isn’t always possible.) and lastly Precision Food or Omnomberry Compote/Lemongrass as defensive alternatives + Sharpening Stones

Playwise it’s 90% positioning, 5% listening to the Commanders field-wishes (Fire #2 for Might, Water #5, 3 for Healing and Air #4 for Swiftness, little use using them randomly since you need others to blast it. 5% being a pain in the meow with Meteor Showers, Static Field, Unsteady Ground and Debris Tornado.

PS: If you’re human you should see the joy of D/D roaming with Avatar of Melandru for chill.

It probably depends on the tier you are in, but toughness and vitality may matter a lot.

Another thing that may come up as an ele in WvW depending on your server is the need to use voice command. You have to call out your combo fields so they can be blasted. No other class needs voice communication in WvW as much as ele. If the sound of commanders screaming in Mumble bothers you, your performance will suffer.

I don’t put anything in the Fire trait line for my wvw ele. Her damage comes from the players she keeps alive (and arrow carts : )

0, 0, 2, 6, 6

You will probably need Acrane Abatement to reduce falling damage since commanders love to jump off cliffs.

It would be silly to run without Aquatic Benevolence.

You may find you can’t get by without a permanent 25% speed boost like Signet of Air taking up room on your skill bar.

maybe you can tell I play a lot of wvw. : )

As far as I can tell, outgoing heals to allies are increased by your healing power. Condition damage you do with siege is increased by your condition damage stats.

If you are new, knights/soldiers is great to start off with. I however run pure zerker armor with a 6/2/0/4/2 trait setup focusing on massive spike damage with meteor/lava font/tornado. All you need is positioning and you will still able to provide support with healing rain + geyser while constantly dishing out high dps.

Been playing Ele since launch, and have to say everyone here that plays Ele and giving you recommendations deserve the respect in opinion regarding what you should run.

The thing about Ele is you’ve got to utilise your attunements, this means knowing what skill in what attunement does what… during a fight things can change unexpectedly and if you know how to adapt fast, you’ll be a very effective Ele.

What I run for WvW is the following;

Armour:
Full PVT with 6/6 Traveler Runes (mainly for the perma 25% but I’ll be changing this out pretty soon). This allows you to utilise your utility skills, instead of having Signet of Air taking up a slot; though you can and will survive with just two utility slots.

Trinkets:
Full Berserker (Long time player so they are Ascended, so stick with Exotics for now).

Weapons:
Staff is a must… I usually have it with Berserker stats, and the Sigils are Battle and Bloodlust.

Traits:
0 / 0 / 2 / 6 / 6
III / I X XI / V VIII XI

Utility Skills:
Glyph of Elemental Harmony (healing skill)
Mist Form
Lightning Flash (Armor of Earth if you’re gonna use Signet of Air)
Armor of Earth (or Signet of Air if you don’t use Traveler Runes)
Conjure Fiery Greatsword or Tornado

This build offer a slight boost in damage while somewhat maintaining survivability, keeping in mind you should still keep your distance during fights.

I’m not going to outline my entire build. but I will say that I run with Dual Daggers and Cleric’s gear and power food and it is pretty amazing. My build focuses on stacking might to fill in the gaps of my damage. I also use Summon Druid spirit to keep my enemies still. You can only use it if you’re a Sylvari. but it’s my favorite elite in the game. I mean… an AoE immobilize nearly every 5 seconds and it also applies regeneration and cures conditions. but I’m not sure how significant those are. The AoE immob also hits for about 2-4k damage. I also use those guard slayer buffs for my build. When I have all my buffs, I usually have around 3700 attack, 1250 healing power, and about 2500 armor. For traits, I have 2 in Air, 6 in water, and 6 in arcana. I use cantrips and signet or restoration. It is a LOT of fun. haha.
