Was just wondering if there is a best wep for lvling with ele using staff atm but also really like daggers but I’m also a person that likes to play optimally! Thnx!

I’m not sure how much different your experience will be to mine, because you’ll probably have less traits when levelling than I did! I kinda ‘struggled’ from levels 1-30. Then I switched to a staff and never looked back.

Daggers are great and quite effective. However, I’m really lazy. I hate doing fast ‘rotations’ and I hate really fast button presses, which seems to be the most effective way to use daggers.

Staff was extremely simple, because it was a matter of just spamming lava font, with some of the other skills thrown in. It’s fairly easy to circle around a mob without being hit. They died fast. My way of playing probably isn’t good practice, but I found it so easy and I really enjoyed my levelling experience from this point. Staff also gives you reasonable mobility…

I think a lot of our effectiveness does come from traits though… so I don’t know whether you will struggle a bit more than I did? Maybe someone with recent levelling experience can help out here.

I mean, this is just my personal preference, but once I got hooked on staff… I’m reluctant to change.

My main class is ele. However, since I started to dislike my human female (made her just for the T3 armor) I created a new Sylvari Elementalist last September – thus I had to level her up.

The weapon I have been using mostly is Staff. It delivers very good damage while also giving you substancial CC on mobs, providing swiftness combo (40s), projectile reflect and evasion. The fact that it is 1200 range weapon laso cannot be overlooked. Keeping that in mind I was already very skilled with class thats why I burned through the leveling process without problem (I leveled the ususal way – hearts, events etc.).

Another good combo would be Dagger/Dagger. It provides good evasiveness, good dmg and mobility. However for it to shine it requires some traits, and after you get them its better to switch to Dagger/Focus of the useful utilities from the latter.

In the end my suggestion would be to stick with the staff. Given the very limited access to traits during the leveling it still shines it every are required in combat. Once you get necessary traits it will be even better

I have made several ele’s and lately the best weapons to level with seem to be the conjures. They just seem to do better damage.

I prefer Staff cause I level up in EOTM.

Thnx for all the replies everyone! Staff it is then! I really like the look of D/D but if staff is optimal I’ll go for that! Wanna reach lvl cap quickly and enjoynlvling while doing it!

What’s optimal for others doesn’t mean it will be optimal for you, I suggest trying both D/D and staff for a few levels and see which one you feel more comfortable with.

I strongly believe D/D is the best PvE leveling set. Quick cleave damage and access to mobility and swiftness on the offhand make it ideal for open world content.

Staff is optimal for overland lvling as you have longer range to bring more mobs to you, CC them and AoE.
You can use LH for harder fights and Sandstorm. Blinds are your best friends when leveling the ele.
Staff and healing glyph will give you easy access to perma swiftness.

Both are viable.
Staff is optimal (longer range pull, more kite/aoe potential).

The “optimal” way to play will always be to first learn how every weapon actually work as some skill might be better on dagger vs staff vs scepter/focus depending on situation and what kind of trait (lines) you will have access to.

Don’t forget to also take a look at how your utilities, healing and elites (as you will get more skill point) actually will work together with your weapon skill. I would recommend you to get Lightning Flash, if you want some more mobility for dagger/dagger (or even staff). Take a look at cantrips, if you feel that you might need more protection as you level up.

Will you playing mostly solo or with friends/party? Soloing can be better done if you use Glyph of Elements as support (both Utility and Elite) as a distraction and to get some effects like Swiftness for lesser elementals.

I would recommend you to invest skill point or do events to first get trait form the Arcana line open as Elemental Attunement make life much more easier and then Evasive Arcana (dodge rolling will add a spell). Swapping attunement in the right order (as there are CD in between each attunment and for each skill) are very important to learn and how to use combo fields to get the most out of each skill.

Are you lvl up alone or in a small party?

Dagger/dagger combo are mostly for melee range, scepter have some skill with medium ranged capabilities and focus are the magical shield, more or less. Staff are good for both ranged and melee fights, but it all depends on what kind of traits you use and how good you will be at using combo fields for might stacking, regeneration and some frost shield. Playing together with other profession could make your fields have other features which you can not provide by your own.

Main hand will have 3 out of 5 weapon skill, so you might want to learn when you will be better of to change weapon (scepter or focus for dagger) and what those skill do even when you learn to use dagger/dagger as your as weapon of choice.

What kind of armour are you wearing? Armour with defensive stats (like toughness, vitality) could be a good starting point and then change to more offensive stats like bersker (Power, Precision, Ferocity).

In PvP there is a lobby where you actually can try out different combination of weapon and armour for free on golems and different profession to see how they might work.

Mainhand Dagger is so good for the ease and speed at which you apply cleave damage. You can level through most of PvE spamming Air 1 on Mainhand Dagger.

The actual correct answer.

In order:
1) Lightning Hammer
2) Lava Axe
3) D/D or Staff
4) Anything else

The best way to level is to stay in lightning hammer during fights. Nothing can beat the dps of that weapon and during leveling, dps is all you care about.
