ok, just a show of hands from the staff elementalist community

how good are you at { z + burning retreat + adjust camera view }
do you think it would be worth developers resources to make some sort of out of combat option to convert burning retreat into a burning advance skill
(unlikely because it’s a weapon skill)
or would you rather they just change it to a forward motion skill instead

i do it pretty smooth , tbh the same w phace retreat is more difficult on mesmer than burning speed on ele

I like it like it is. I have gotten used to moving past an enemy then backup over them.

i guess it would be too much like fiery rush then.. i dunno, it’s just the occasions for reversing the skill outweigh its normal use.. almost to the point where it gets annoying

I actually don’t even notice it any more that I have to release RM, use my about face key and adjust the camera afterwards for that. It’s in my “muscle memory” now, so if they changed it now, I would definitely need a lot of time to adjust

Burning retreat is ok. I always turn around camera manually, but pressing “Look behind” button and then making 1 step and using the skill works also.

More annoying is when I use Lighting Flash to escape from zerg, but have some enemy player targeted. After skill is used you are faced towars that enemy and you start running in direction of that enemy, which may lead to suicide >_>

I understand your frustration with it, but I think it’s fine the way it is. Nice to have some variety in this game with skill functions. Just practice either flicking your camera or using about-face/look behind.

I’ve gotten really used to my reverse-BR now, with about-face mapped to \ so I can tap it with my pinkie. It’s surprisingly easy to pick up, once you find a keybind for about-face that is comfortable.

The steps I take:
- release right-mouse (if holding it down)
- click somewhere with left-mouse (to unlock the camera’s view)
- about-face with \ (this shouldn’t change the camera’s orientation, just turn around the character so they’re facing the camera)
- press 4 for BR (which should go ’forwards’ away from the camera)
- at some point during the skill’s animation, hold down right-mouse again so the camera doesn’t go crazy at the end of the skill

Don’t even have to let go of W if you’re running somewhere - as long as I don’t mess up one of these steps I can very smoothly treat it as a gap-closer or way to retreat without backpedalling.

Note: it took me faaaar too long to realise that right-mouse always followed behind your character, and left-mouse was independent of them. Panning the camera for a quick look around with left-mouse can be very helpful when running somewhere in WvW or PvP!
