is this class even worth playing?
If you’re underpowered as a mes, might wanna find a new game. Unless you’re only refering to PvE, then eh.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
thats what im referring too. I run a shatter like build doing kitten good damage, but I find them too slow…..I find them too idiotic. lets get back to elementalist. is it any good?
If you’re looking for damage you should make a warrior and faceroll.
Elementalist has decent to high damage, but what makes it fun is the attunement swapping and mobility.
It requires more effort to play to get good damage output, because you will need to switch attunements when your spells hit cooldown. Something that I find to be fun, but you may not like it..
I’d say: if you only want this class for damage then don’t do it. Otherwise, just give it a shot you may like it’s playstyle.
oh come on mesmers are the same way and I managed to get kitten good damage out put from that
Elementalist is quite underpowered. Moves slowly and almost everything kills it easily, you’ll always get two-shotted or one-shotted in dungeons.
Tho, I didn’t stop playing it, even with all the nerfs. It’s a very intresting class. Hard to play.
With hard to play I mean that placement is very very important. You would like to not get close to your enemy and in dungeons have a party that knows to not bring melee champs close to you. That way you can kill them without getting too hurt. In that way, ele is quite a challenge. You have to dodge at the right moment en play a little bit more strategic than, let’s say, the warrior.
It also has some decent damage and dps is strong, tho not as strong as necromancer.
Also, the different attunements make it fun to play, and when you master and learn when to switch attunements you can be lots of help to your party.
The only thing is, I don;t like underwater combat with ele, this might be personal, but I feel uneasy with the underwater skillset. I heard mesmer is very powerful underwater, be sure ele is not.
So, basically, they made elementalist quite a challenge, it is underpowered, but I have a lot of fun playing it.
I only play an ele because I like the concept of controlling the fundamental forces of nature. If I didn’t care about role-playing at all, I’d probably go for something with decent ranged options for PvP, like an engineer or warrior.
ele is a complex and rewarding class, it has probably the most active playstyle out of any gw2 profession and I can dare say that it’s also the most fun.
of course they are worth it, but only to those that bother learning through trial and error until they finally master elementalist.
Ele & thief main (full ascended)
Down with the braindead faceroll classes.
If you want raw power, I suggest heading for Warrior. While Elementalist isn’t bad, Warrior is hands-down more powerful in DPS. This class is still on the chopping-block with the upcoming AoE nerfs, so it’s only going to get weaker, and Warriors are nerf-proof in PvE.
As with every MMO out there: pick the plate-wearing melee.
I use to think eles were weak too until a simple realization dawned on me. Eles are AoE gods! So many combo fields! So many projectiles! So many whirls! I have yet to see a target limit on many powers too! If it wasn’t for the low hp and high cast times, they could faceroll entire armies! The only weakness is that those same aoe powers aren’t so useful against single targets because the damage output is the same.
If you ever feel weak just remember that you’re not really meant to take on individuals. You’re meant to take on entire factions.

Umm.. the limit, as with all AoE in the game, is 5.

I love playing an Ele, the mobility, the versatility and the control. All good stuff. Might not be the biggest damage dealer, but the rest makes up for it imo.
That said, builds outside D/D is lacking a bit.

Elementalists are amazingly fun and useful in every portion of the game. There is one area where they are severely lacking. They cannot compete with the damage output of a might-stacked, vuln-stacked, time-warped 100-blades Berserker Warrior. Therefore they are “suboptimal” to the elite forum warrior CoF farmers. Otherwise, they are one of the more interesting classes to play and quite effective at just about everything.
Yes, this profession is worth playing.
You just need to get that the elementalist’s main strength is not “outdamaging everyone else”, but rather “having more options than everyone else”.
And if you complain about the nerfs on Renewing Stamina, Soothing Disruption, Ride the Lightning and Shocking Aura, maybe you should look at the buffs to Comet, Stoning, Static Field, Glyph of Elemental Harmony, Flame Wall and Flame Shield.
“But those are bad skills,” I hear you say? Well, ArenaNet recognized that those skills were not good enough, which is why they were boosted.
If you want easy times and dps roll a warrior. Was an ele, rolled a war and am now face rolling as a result. Ele though is great for survivability and support, very useful in those skip mob runs like ta

Facerolling is not fun. It’s about as fun as window licking.
That’s like….my opinion, man.
Whoever said Ele’s get 1-2 shot in dungeons needs to learn the class a little better. Sorry, I’m not bothering to look them up, not worth the time.
Ele’s have a lot going for them. I currently run a survival D/D build and I love the versatility, the movement, the high skill ceiling. It’s not easy to play, but once you get things working, you are a wrecking ball. Add to that the fact that your support is just about the best in the game and you have a great class.
I’ll usually switch to staff for keep defense since it’s fun to rain down death on the zerg at the gate and just collect my bags, but it’s not nearly as rewarding.
Bottom line, if you want to faceroll, go play a warrior or guardian. If you want a challenge, come roll an ele and grab yourself some daggers.
Well…here’s my two cents, and I don’t play an ele.
I have an engi, and engis are underpowered. And I started several engis before getting kitten at the game and deleting them. But, I made an asura, and engi fit, so I stuck it out. Now I’m level 30, and not only am I -NOT- underpowered, but I can hold my own against champs alone, which even a warrior might have trouble with simply because of my versatility and mobility. Eles are similar.
I’m a crappy ele. I was in GW1, I am in GW2. But that doesn’t mean the class can’t shine in the hands of someone that knows how to utilize all its elements at once. It takes a lot of switching attunements and understanding all FOUR of your skill bars PER weapon to survive. But once you do, they can literally be a force of nature. They’re still made of glass, that will never change, but if you can kill everything before they get you, you can make it.
In the current meta Ele is the best class in pvp player, WvW and sPvP. They are a bit tough to play, but if you watch the last state of the game stream most of the questioners agreed that ele needs nerfing. It’s PvE play is better than mesmers, but I never found mesmers that bad in PvE honestly. Mesmer, Thief, and Eles are considered the best PvP classes right now. On the PvE side it is guardian and warrior mostly.
Mesmers are good for their synergy with warriors. Depends on the run, but portal and time warp are very useful . Eles are better for overall support though, but wars will generally prefer Mesmers unless for harder encounters, then they may pick an ele or guard. Eles have to compete with guards IMO mostly.

Also I think mesmers right now are the best sPvP class, whether it be glass cannon or bunker.
Before, eles could run in, do anything they want, and run back out of fights with full hp. Not quite as easy anymore (though they can always run back out), and bunker mesmers tend to win out from an extended fight from what i’ve seen.

Well, you might become frustrated with the ele in SPvP as there aren’t many possibilities. Of course you can mix and match as wildly as you like, but there are frustratingly few solid options to use. Things might be addressed in future patches hopefully, but so far nothing has happened. Cantrip is the thing. You can’t do without at least one. Water (15 min) and arcane (10 min) is also something you want. The traitlines are a bit.. off in my oppinion.
But elementalists are fun! Just saying that they have their fair share of problems..
Every class is worth playing if you find a build you enjoy. Sorry for the generic answer but it is the truth.
