Fire Grab is still an issue for me, sometime I am right in front of my target and it just “Missed”.
I am not sure if it was the latency but this is dumb. 50% of the time my Fire Grab is a fail. Only successful if I do it in front of a zerg. It will hit 2 guys.

I usually play on 200-225ms latency and the misses are very noticable. Things go from challenging to impossible on the bad days when I hit 350ms+. Actually lost some guild duelling tournaments due to not being able to land practically all my offensive abilities.

Fire Grab sometimes fail for me too but not that often. I am with latency around 40-60ms. Regardless of latency it is a cone skill meaning it is easier to land. BUT there is a problem with the mechanic that calculates hit/miss – fire breath, cone of cold can be avoided by just going forward and strafing a bit – it is all miss. Lightning whip also misses..
I the case of Fire Grab and latency I suggest that due to the high latency (200+) the target may have strafed just before you activate the skill.
It appears there is something not right with those server calculations.

Fire 2 and Water 2 you actually have to aim by predicting where the target is moving. It takes some skill.
Lightning Whip and Fire Grab hitboxes are still badly broken…
actually not exactly – I see fire going directly through target and it is still a miss (fire2). Not always but a lot of times. If I have to be extremely precise to land a skill I’d love to see its damage multiplied.

Fire Grab you need to directly facing the target. If they are to the side or behind you, it’s going to whiff.
Setups that I use to ensure it landing is: F3, F5 (Grab), F4 Switch to earth, E3 (Fire Aura), E4 (quake + might stack), 2 or 5 depending on if I am in a group. (E5 gives the opponent too much time to breathe).
Firegrab immediately after F3 is pretty much a guaranteed hit.
The only frequent situation where I seem to miss FG is when we’re on unlevel ground. The vertical axis hit box seems off.
Now fireball on the other hand. OMG.

I know what I am doing, I stay true to my words. I am the one that charge in and fire everything before anyone has time to react and dodge. Like other said, hitbox is still an issue as well LoS.
I believe it is LoS, ground elevation and target positioning/hitbox. It appears pretty messy at moments.
i usually go from RTL into updraft , fire 4 then fire 5 and fire 5 will almost always miss and the person is still on the ground at this point so chances of them moving away isnt possible. and yes i have had my fire 2 be going right through someone and still have it miss for every hit… very frustrating

From my tests it seems as the skill misses if you’re less than on step away from your target in whichever direction, normally to guarantee the hit I use is at the end of burning speed , I make sure the target receive the full dmg of burning speed before using Fire Grab
this game needs to let players set auto target to individual abilities
things like lightning whip and firegrab seem to hit things more consistently like this
