s/tPvP R50+ ele rewarding?

D/D is really solid in tPvP right now, but you have to be able to see the big picture to get the full potential out of it. I’ll just name the most important things that many D/D eles tend to overlook.
- Team support (!): If you can share a water EA+ healing ripple + cleansing wave with an ally in jeopardy, that can be gamechanging. Protection from earth attunement is also often overlooked. Paying more attention to this is vital in skirmishes, since you will often get ignored while your allies get trained.
- Downed control: Miststomps and resses are extremely powerful. Don’t forget armor of earth either. You need to learn to be very aware of when allies or enemies go down. Ele is a potent resser. Don’t forget to swap to water for a quick heal when your ally gets up.
- Rotations: You’re somewhere between standard roaming specs and non-roamer specs in terms of mobility. With fgs you can become a true nuisance, decapping and outnumbering very quickly. If you’re dying a lot to warriors, necros and mesmers, this is what you should be paying attention to. Encounter corrupt necro or PU mesmer? GTFO and be useful elsewhere. Quick on your feet, you must be.
- Proper targeting: not as sticky as a thief, but you should still try to target hard-to-hit, hardhitting targets that your warriors cant manage to reach. (mesmers, thieves)
- Bunkering. Help out your fellow guardian or homepoint defender by swapping contestation with him if you can afford to.
Could go on for a while here. Point is D/D ele can do it all. If you don’t do it all however, you should play something that can do the specific thing you’re doing better.
Thank you for your very detailed explanation, I shall consider more support for my team rather than being selfish =)

very difficult to play against. Especially the PU mesmers.

OP mentions "s/tPvP" so presumably is talking about both hotjoin and ranked matches - and if you ever want to roam in WvW, it’s pretty important to be able to deal with PU Mesmers anyway, even if they’re never going to be viable in high-end conquest PvP.
Anyway yeah, Gokil’s post covers things clearly - Ele *can* do everything pretty well (while having to go farther and sacrifice more to perform more specific roles like S/D FAir Burst or Staff Nuker), and D/D Cele is especially versatile. Learning how best to support your team in different situations with your mixed bag of tools is the way to stay effective at higher ranks. Getting out of situations that you can’t help in is equally important to sticking around when you can!
I’ve not done a lot of PvP but whenever I have I’ve really enjoyed it on my Ele with D/D. Seems to be able to hold it’s own nowadays and I don’t think a lot of people can handle you shooting all over the place with Burning speed, teleport, mist form, etc and then a few lightning whips and a fire grab and they’re down.
I don’t want to hijack the thread but you’ve sort of mentioned it about the celestial amulet… Do actual armour stats not matter anymore in PvP? Is it purely the things you can change it the ‘PvP Build’ pop-up or is someone wearing Zerker armour different to someone wearing soldiers?

Yeah, all of your modifications for your pvp gameplay are modified in the “PvP build” pop up. The amulet you choose gives you all of your stats. (Plus the rune set and sigils you choose to equip) You do, however, only have access to the certain weapons that you are carrying on your person, though they don’t affect stats at all.

at roaming PU condie is strong but he can not kill you. You just run and he has no abilities to fallow you. PU power has little bit more chase abilities but it is full bers, so find main mesmer and kill it.

PU mesmers are banned from ESL 1v1 and 2v2 tournaments because of their incredible outplaying potential all I see is clones everywhere, clones when they dodge, confusion on demand, more clones, phantasms, et.c, et.c. As an elementalist you should know that confusion, torment and imobolize are the worst conditions we can have on us because they limit our movement and clutch plays by far cause of the inability to move/switch attunements on demand cause of punishment from the conditions. Also cleaning these conditions can only take you thus far. I have no idea which PU mesmers you are talking about but there are some kitten good ones out there.
