i’m new to ele, gw2, all of it. currently trying all different profs and builds. after d/d ele, just tried s/f for couple of evenings. i loved idea on paper. scepter for ranged damage, focus for control, just the kinda play i like (loved frost mage in wow).

but that’s on paper. when you get to specifics? i’m talking damage and specifically burst damage, something above autoatack level. cooldowns? turns nasty.

dragon’s tooth, enemy doesnt even have to avoid it, unless glued to the spot, wont hit. even chilled enemies walk out of it. only knockdown/daze allows dragon’s tooth to hit. and this is supposed to be main low cooldown skills in damage oriented attunement.

in water we have shatterstone – you cast it, by the time scorebored comes up it will explode (in very clearly marked circle, surely empty one).

in earth no major damage, its around 300dps or so – sort of autoattack quality damage.

air – yes, one, in entire arsenal one and only low cooldown insta lightning strike.

so… how is this scepter expected to be played in spvp? where is damage coming from?

i tried frequent attunment switching.
something like:
- start in air, do damage, gale knockdown
- switch to fire, dragon’s tooth and other damage,
- switch earth, use protection (especially if enemy popped burst)
- brief switch in air to sqeeze one more lightning strike
- switch to water, heal, comet daze,
- fire again with dragon tooth
recycle… but not quite, gale is 50 sec cooldown, hasn’t popped yet.

this is just a general idea, combos, traits are further down the road. essentially everything hinging around prepping with stun for dragon’s tooth to hit.

is this the way to do it? very winding. and even if you pull it off, somehow it still adds up to a very mediocre damage. dunno, may be i’m still slow at it, but dont see what else can be done.

try offhand dagger instead of focus, thats what pretty much all eles run in pvp.

I never said they were anything like other games, in most MMORPG I usually play mage classes. runes of magic mage/priest, aion sorcerer, spirit. Which is actually a nice change of pace for me anyways. Ofc, I don’t see how your comment had anything to do with the OP’s question before I mocked you.

Anyways, my comment was more or less a shot at you, since every thing you seem to say involves so form of whining.

Try offhand dagger. It’s better in 99% of PvP. If you still think your damage is too low I would try mesmer. Currently eles have better balanced and tanky builds while mesmers have better burst builds (at least imo).

Eles also depend on skill rotations and you keeping track of all the CDs to be effective so make sure you practise both.

I’m having similar problems, it seems the only reliable way to land your fire spells is to use Signet of Earth (immobilize) and pray the other player doesn’t have condition removal…
I also never win against bunkers since they can just take the damage, heal back to full hp, then sneeze at me and i’ll die.
It seems the only playstyle that works with my current 0/30/0/30/10 build is to blow all your cooldowns on a single target, then get the hell out of there if they don’t die.
