staff ele dmg+survivabilty
staff ele will not work without fire 30: persisting flames. at that point you are better off using another build.
staff ele will not work without fire 30:
Guess I’ve been doing something wrong for the past 15 months then.
But seriously, it’s hard not to do well with staff in PvE.
Consider swapping your Sigil of Force with a Sigil of Battle, and try running Conjure Frost Bow for its nuke (skill 4). That’ll make you do a lot of AoE damage.
1) Drop the glyph CDR, you shouldn’t need it for the most part on your heal and it’s especially inefficient to have it for a single skill.
2) Try to get rid of the soldiers eventually in favor of valk/cav/zerk because frankly it’s not worth the damage loss.
3) I would swap out a cantrip for arcane wave for damage+might because you only have one blast in your build and you have too many cantrips for PvE already. I survive fine in full zerker with a whopping zero cantrips. On the same note, you don’t really need the cantrip traits if you time dodges.
4) Blasting staff doesn’t really help in PvE.
5) As ThiBash said, ice bow is very nice, especially against large enemies because they take more hits. Even if you don’t have it always on, it’s usually a good idea to equip it before a boss fight/large object fight. It also has the best stun in the game combined with a chill, so if you can manage to time the 5 you will be making the best use of the one stun before defiant comes up again. Even if you mess it up it still applies the chill, so that’s nice.

you’ve been playing suboptimally. OP asked for “damage”, I said he has to take an important trait which makes staff ele highest DPS ingame.
oki so with staff you got more room for dodgeing then for instance when your meleeing
oki got now an updated build
full zerker with battle sigil and vigoures renewal
hope this is better for dmg

that looks alright, but battle is a useless sigil on a PVE DPS staff ele since you’re pretty much permanently camping fire (or your DPS goes to kitten).
get a permanent % boost sigil like a force/night/slaying sigil instead.

This is better ya. You gonna have decent dps. Not a full DPS build, but a full DPS build on an Ele is freaking hard. Better to do a bit less dps, but staying up. You don’t need to change your build any further, but here some little things you can incorporate if you want too.
1) Arcane brilliance. Its not the best heal, but if you can use it. Since now you only use 1 blast finisher you under use Persisting Flame. With two blast you will almost be able to give constant fury on your own.
2) Stone Splinters is a great trait to have. You should already stay within 360 radius of your target so you are affected your party boons and blast. So Stone Splinters give you a free 10% dmg, which is really important for an Ele dmg. The best would be to decrease to only 10 pts in Arcana. What you eliminate is up to you. I never really found Blasting Staff, that powerful in PvE.

Well…it’s great for damage; but with that gear certain veteran mobs will one-shot you. 12K health and 1800 armor means you will die – a lot.
Your armor itself will work, but I recommend changing your accessories (rings, amulet, etc.) to add some vitality and toughness. Yeah, you’ll lose some damage & crit, but a dead ele does no damage. Experiment a bit until you find stats you are comfortable with.
On my ele I prefer 18K+ health and 2100-2200 armor for good survivability. Of course, other players will have their own ideas about what feels right and not everyone plays exactly the same.

Yeah, I personally am pretty comfortable at about 14k health, down from 16k a few months ago. It lets me pull of my full “omgwtfthatwasatonofdamage” waterblast combo with time to spare, but also gives me the pretty numbers I want

Wow that’s a lot. I have 18k Hp and 2700 armor on my wvw frontline guardian lol. Its been about a year, the last time I use a toons with that amount of passive defence in PvE. But your advice is good. Find the sweet spot you feel comfortable with. If you want to get better, you can change some piece of gear over time as you get more experienced. I like to change some piece like the hand and foot, because usually i don’t mind not having the best look on them right away. On my ele i changed the headgear too over time since i don’t use any skin on it. Rings are also good gear to change since they are so easier to get if you do fractal. In the long run, you want to reach full zerker or near that, but in the mean time, if you did too much, a couple of more defensive gear could help you.
I’ve said this one before in similar threads. An Ele’s survivability-to-damage ratio (Especially with Staff) is such that it’s honestly better to run with 2200-2400 armor, and funnel the rest into pure damage, if you’re planning to go for tail-kicking. Health’s more of a personal concept. I run about 14-15k, and feel survivable “enough.”
For EQ, I personally run:
Weapons: Knight’s
Armor: Knight’s, with a coupla Zerkers mixed in
Trinkets: Celestial amulet, Valk back, others even split of Valk/Cav.
Not per se an ‘optimal’ Ele DPS build, but it’ll keep me around long enough to smash some faces.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
