I know elementalist has problems. I am coming from Mesmer though, so it seems like a bucket full of cupcakes and sunshine so far. :p

I wanted to make a supporty build (giving it the accompanying defense through support theme) with some viable dps boost through boons.

So I looked up the aura D/D build

and made this to give a little more punch and sizzle and auras on demand

However, without the arcane points, is it viable? Will it meet my desire to be supporty-self-defensy yet still have some punch and sizzle? Loving D/D as an asura, btw, I feel like Yoda :)

Don’t understand why you’d take Fire Shield on Signet Use when you only have one signet, and it’s a signet you will ideally never use (you can get more healing by spamming skills through attunement cycling and emptying your utilities than you will get by using Signet of Restoration actively).

Perhaps you find more use for auras generally, but I find that their duration (and the duration of the boons you get off of them through traits) is too short to be viable as a group support thing. I do take the aura boons for solo exploring because they are good solo, but if your goal is to be support-y there are better ways to do it (like staff builds).

For group support sorts of things (dungeoneering or group exploring) I prefer scepter/dagger. You don’t lose anything in terms of combo fields (MH dagger doesn’t have any other than Burning Speed, which is awkward to use for combos), and while your healing does go down a bit (Water Trident isn’t quite as good as Cone of Cold), it’s not really a big deal. In return, you get much better sustained damage (via Stone Shards), better debuffing utility (Shatterstone stacks vulnerability much better than Vapor Blade), and get to be a tad better at non-staff elementalist’s main support gimmick (that being Might stacking) because you get four blast finishers in your weapon skills to use on Ring of Fire rather than three.

D/D is better for soloing though, as it’s more bursty.

Thanks – thats some excellent advice! I think I meant to have another signet in that utility slot than just restoration. I will take a look at doing a different setup.

Take the extra punch from equipment, basicly use trait points as a mean to get traits, not the stats that are tied to them.

Also, auras other than what you gains as a direct result of weapon skill (using skill that says aura, in the description). won´t spread through powerful auras as far as i know. I might be wrong though.

I’d take 10 points out of earth and put it into evasive arcana. The water dodge roll is a 2.6k heal (with cleric’s) and a condition removal. The fire and earth dodge rolls are blast finishers and the lightning dodge roll is an aoe blind. Then I’d use 2 monk runes, 2 water runes and 2 earth runes for + 30 boon duration for 60% total(80 for protection). That way shocking aura will give 16 seconds of fury+swift and frost will give 8 seconds(even to allies). The 3 seconds of protection on a 25 second cooldown and 40 second cooldown is nothing compared to the 9 seconds of protection you can put out every time you go earth attunement (theoretically every 10.5 but realistically 12 at best).
