to all the QQ staff eles out there
Here is the real problem:
Damage + Support (D/D or S/D) > ~0 Damage + Support (Staff or x/F)
Pure support builds are simply not needed in PvP since every single profession has some kind of support. That’s why staff and focus are both not good. They both don’t have reliable, high damage output compared to D/D and S/D.
There are obviously more problems but this is why I wouldn’t choose those weapons in the first place.
Welcome to the cc game. As an staff ele your job is to blind/immobilize/chill/stun/knock back and cause vulnerability while punishing the people who have fell in to your traps. the next thing you have as an staff ele is in kit combo. We have so far 3 ways of blasting in our own fields arcane blast, eruption and evasive arcane. this makes us the best support or cc tank in the game (imo). what a-net should do with the staff is make:
IMO, if you want the community to take your suggestions seriously don’t start off by insulting the community.
You forgot about Arcane Wave—it is also a blast finisher.
When you say “cc tank” you imply that staff ele excels at drawing aggro and staying alive in melee combat while providing support/CC for the team. You should reconsider that.
The players you refer to as “all the QQ staff eles” are players that understand the shortcomings of using staff in an organized PvP envrionment. Most agree that it works in PvE and does well in WvW provided you have a zerg/keep to protect you.
The cast times are too long to be able to coordinate attacks with a teammate. You touched on that in your suggestions but imo removing the cast times entirely would be unbalanced.
The nature of our DPS prevents us from performing well in 1v1. Removing the delay on lava font is a tiny step in the right direction, but a revision of our auto-attacks is also needed.
Having no escapes hinders our ability to provide off-point pressure. Giving Fire 4 1200 range would be a good start here. Adding a mid range escape to Air 4 would also help.

i cant wait to see all the staff eles rolling off of cliffs to their deaths with a 1200 range fire4.
staff damage is pretty good with gear / traits, but their is no survivability. while its correct to say that there should be trade offs, no other class in the game has as little survivability as a dps staff ele, and almost all of those do more damage than a dps staff ele. they really need some help. thieves have stealth, mesmers have 15k base HP, clones, stealth, portals, necros get 2 giant healthbars, guardians get heavy armor and huge base heals, rangers and warriors do better range damage and both have much more survivability. eles have to build their entire gear/spec around compensating for bad starting stats, which dps staff eles inherently dont do, and they suck for it.

cc tank…never heard of one before. imo our staff cc is best used at range. In fact all our skills are best used at range. It’s a ranged weapon.
Damage + support is by far better than 0 damage + support. In fact, I cannot fathom why anyone would have a staff ele with no damage. Our cc is in our skills; it’s automatic. There’s not much more to build for except dps and survivability at range. Survivability can come in part from healing power, which can mitagate quite a bit of damage over minutes of time using a dash of regen, and some toughness and vitality. But to ignore dps is just silly. This isn’t a trinity game. There isn’t enough support or increased effectiveness of cc available to justfy such a one sided way of playing.
Personally I get most of my staff dps from crits. It has the desired effect. It catches the other players attention and gets them off the walls and breaks their lines. We don’t need melee vitality. We don’t need melee toughness. Melee utility blast finishers on ranged combo fields is just another example of what we don’t need. I don’t know why players want to put melee stats and skills on a ranged character.
cc and support are not builds. They are a proper use of the skills of the staff weapon.
