I currently have between 2500-2600 armor for my ele and I’m trying to figure out if I might of gone too far into toughness for my D/D ele or if I’m good where I am. I use to be pure berserker so toughness is still pretty new idea to me

What are your overall stats?

2600 armor and 20 in Water is pretty solid for D/D, but it’d be nice to know your other stats to give some context.

Looks good to me. I’d maybe run Divinity or Traveler runes for the extra crit damage since you are already pretty tanky.

Thats what I was kinda thinking of. trim off the rune toughness for something to help with my declined dps.

I run a D/D ele critical damage focused in WvW, both roaming and zerging. It is a bit hard to play, but if you have practice it is quite fun. I usually play it with some ele mates in the same party with the same build. Tons of fun.

I have around 1300 toughness, the build:

It’ll take a lot of toughness to get any significant increase in damage reduction. I like the stat (from other games also, I like to have high defense) but in practice toughness doesn’t seem to work as well as say, vitality or healing power.

There was an article on these forums about a week ago though, that showed you how to calculate optimal toughness.

If you can read this then it is proof that ArenaNet’s moderators just, kind and fair.

From what I’ve read, and from experience testing it, around 1600 toughness is a good base to shoot for.

Works well with d/d/f, s/d/f and also staff. Gives you a nice tanks guard feeling and not a wet paper towel.

This is what I run atm both in d/d and s/d. In s/d I actually have more toughness but less vit because I go into earth for channeling toughness and FA.

Yeah I have to agree with this. I’ve tried builds with toughness and less vitality and/or healing power.

I’ve always had more success with vitality and healing power over vitality and toughness. Mainly because it is so easy to keep regen up on an Elementalist.

I like to keep high toughness builds with condition damage builds. Seems to be more synergy there.
