People here says elementalist is too weak in PVP . My experience is low, made in hotjoin and in some tpvp .
I tried to play elementalist in pvp , i die a lot, but i kill a lot. On the other side, i play with guardian, i survive more but it is harder to kill people becouse there is less mobility ( i play with staff/hammer).
With guardian , the class i have much more problem to kill is elementalist. Warrior,necro, thiefs, mesmer kills me as a guardian and sometime i kill them (it depends on the player obviously ) instead i find killing an elementalist hard becouse it escapes easily.
Are u sure elementalist is so weak ? 1 vs 1 probably is hard , but i think it is hard with every profession and the player is much more effective than professions and skills

The majority of us who play ele don’t bother with spvp at all. Spvp and WvW are completely different. In WvW ele is incredibly underpowered compared to the other professions. It doesn’t even seem like it belongs in the same game.

Ah … so the weakness is for wvw ? i hate wvw …. (it takes too much time for me, i am old with a family and children and in wvw i don’t often find anything to do instead in mists if i stay half an hour i fight for all time ( and often loose )

Overall the Elem is simply over-balanced for:

pros:
-versatility and adaptability

cons:
-lowest armor and lowest health
-weak skills (arguably)
-constraining class mechanic

The widespread opinion of the community is that these cons are too many and that they offset the pros too much.

Edit: However it is one of the most entertaining classes to play

I used dagger dagger a lot and for me ele has a great advantage, many skills work even if u have not target something (air 1 or fire 1,2 or water 1,2) for example. I rolled a guardian and hammer is very strong but people use much more greatsword becouse it is much more simple to “get” something. Everytime people does not consider this

Acutally I do consider this. I agree that most of our skills have a “out of the box” fact. For example, Impale (dagger earth 1) hits no matter the Z axis, obstacles, etc, so it can be abused this way. Similarly Lightning Whip (dagger air 1) has 300 range (normal melee range is 150) and so you can often hit melee attackers with an advantage. This could explain why our damage numbers are lower, but it does not really. In fact, if we look at a skill like Dragon’s Claw (dagger fire 1) we can see that it has limiting facts rather than advantages like LW and Impale. This skill only deals decent damage (3 hits for 0.375 power coefficient per second) if you land the three of them, and to do so you need to be within short melee range (roughly under 100), at which points it deals 1.13 power per second on a single target. So there is this limiting range fact, but also it is a projectile (it can be reflected). Now compare this to the warrior’s axe auto-attack: it has a coefficient of power per second of 1.36 (20% more, cleaves) and its only limiting fact is that it is a combo so you should not interrupt the cycle. In short, we have less damage and more limitations.

You realize ele was nerfed more in spvp than in wvw? If it’s incredible underpowered in wvw how would you call this situation in spvp? Unplayable?

Also I would like to add that in a PvE perspective, a simple boost in our damage of about 5 to 10 percents would appear reasonable to me. They could do this simply by fixing lingering elements in the way that it would become a natural mechanic of the class (no need to trait) and work for all bonuses, but for a shorter duration (3s); then the arcane 15 trait would just boost this duration (to 5-6s).
Such change, applied to a fresh air rotation, would boost our damage by a small amount with the right traits. It would also open new ground for build diversity.

You realize ele was nerfed more in spvp than in wvw? If it’s incredible underpowered in wvw how would you call this situation in spvp? Unplayable?

How should I know? I never play spvp. I find it incredibly boring because there’s limited customization options there making a lot of builds impossible to recreate there.

WvW is one of the boring things i have tried in life …. waiting for a gate to go down or spamming aoe on a zerg …. spvp or tpvp are much more fast. You play 10 minutes, u fight 10 minutes. Have u think of how much time in wvw you fight and how much time you walk around a map or wait for something down for example ? the maior part of fight in wvw is range from what i have seen (fight against player… not against boring and stupid mobs ) . Most of people standing up all time spamming aoe and range attack .

If that’s how you think wvw world is, you’re doing it wrong. or you’re on a bad server that does nothing but zerg. Roaming around and killing large groups of people with small man groups is where the fun is. I could care less about capturing or defending things. Of course i’ll get in on it if I happen to be nearby and see my allies take a gate down. I’lll rush in and leech the points for capturing it. But for the most part I usually have nothing to do with any of that crap. you have a ton more freedom in wvw than you do in spvp. It’s really satisfying when my group of 5 takes down a group of 20 or more unorganized zerglings. Unfortunately in wvw because ele is so weak my role is usually just buffing everyone. If I want to actually kill and make a difference I use my warrior or guardian.

i tried with my guardian but pherhaps it is not a good server. (Fow if i remember ). In my opinion guardian is not so good for wvw , no good range weapon and i don’t like greatsword, i find hammer much better but it is not so good for fighting many players

Guardian is amazing in wvw. It’s one of the best if not the best class for that. A good guardian is really hard to bring down. Hammer is great, but hard to get used to. It’s slow and has highly telegraphed moves. It just takes a lot of practice, but hammer guardians can be pretty devastating.

It could just be that you’re on a sucky server. If you ever have any queues trying to get into wvw, you have too many people. Perhaps you would enjoy it more if you transferred to a lower tier server. You’re more likely to find a lot of small roaming groups and have really interesting fights. Of course there’s always the bad luck of ending up matched against a high tier server that has 100 people on all maps 24/7 and kills all of you the second you step out of spawn. But that’s Anet’s fault though with their crappy matchup thing.
