your reason for rolling an Ele
I played ele all throughout beta and really liked it. I chose it because I thought having access to 20 weapon skills vs 10 would be an advantage. Plus I played monk in gw1, and thought that the ele would allow me to play some support reminiscent of that beautiful class from gw1. I also have a 80 guardian

Two words: Attunement Dancing.
Honestly one of the few classes that’s as fun as my Mesmer.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Well, GW2 is my first MMO and the elementalist looked really cool with their flashy skills but I heard they were pretty hard to play. I rolled warriors, guardians and thieves first to gain some skill and after I’ve tried all classes, elementalist and mesmer really feel unique to play.
I love caster classes in general just because of how cool their skills look
Quickblade Vince – Thief
The Asurnator – Elementalist
I wanted an extreme ranged DPS character. Instead I got aura dancing maniac constantly swapping every which way. I swap earth to blow up a water combo only to find people have already healed and I can go back to DPSing in fire…10 seconds later when the cool down resets…
…it can all be very frustrating at times.
I started as a thief, then it got boring, everyone thinks they’re OP and, well, they are. So I literally went online to seek out what’s the hardest class to play and underpowered, and the answer seemed to be Elementalist.
Oh and, Ride the lightning definitely was something I just wanted to have.
Played well over a dozen RPG’s and MMO’s and in every single one I ended up liking the wizard or mage-like class the best, specially when it involved shooting balls of fire and breathing flames.
I was not disappointing, rather, I love playing elementalist so much that all other classes I’ve tried playing feel stale, slow and boring.
I wanted a ranged AoE class with group utility for WvW.
we may consider whether or not there is an incarnation of [ele] that would be viable
but balanced. For now, we do not expect it to see serious use.” – ANet
Engaging, fluid and dynamic since BWE 1 – practically everything else bores me to death.

I’m a mage at heart, tried it in BWE1 and I never even considered another class. All other classes just have a dull and boring playstyle compared to the Ele. Same reason I couldn’t play anything but a Mage in Rift as well. For some reason Mages seem to be the difficult class to play in games and I honestly really like it that way, makes it much easier to tell the good players from the bad.

I wanted Phenomenal Cosmic Powers
Played an Elementalist in GW1. Loved how we performed through betas, so I stuck it out.
Zipping across the map at breakneck speeds while making things explode.

I like shinies. Which means, because I’m a skritt, I guess.
well i already had an awesome name for my ele and i had to have it before someone else did. named it Toversletje and later turned out to be offensive. than i had to change it. also its the only class i really tried in the beta’s. i fell in love with ride the lightning ^^. and wow how awesome that this skill is on the best available weapon set ^^
I’m simply explaining why I’m right.
I played Mage in WoW and no other class I tried in WoW came close to it in PvP. I love zoning and having many options and great mobility and a high skill ceiling. I was hoping the Ele in GW2 would be similar, but alas it’s not. Maybe some day…
I wanted to play a supportive class, but I hate anything like guardian/paladin archetype.
<3 my Ele, especially since I discovered Auramancer, so much party buffs and support, while always being the last to die
Aesthetic reasons, I like mages, especially non-traditional ones (no pointy hats or big beards). Double dagger elementalist fit me perfectly.
I started as a thief, then it got boring, everyone thinks they’re OP and, well, they are. So I literally went online to seek out what’s the hardest class to play and underpowered, and the answer seemed to be Elementalist.

“underpowered”? Ele? Interesting perspective.

We really are, in a sense. We have a handful of tanky builds that are really good for PvP, that are completely dependent on Daggers and the arcane skills, take the arcane skills away and nerf daggers (the latter is probably happening in the next few patches anyway) and our threat level falls just below quaggans.

If you look at it from the perspective of the average player, we are. In good hands, however, we are great. And of course, if you put the same effort required to play a warrior well into an elementalist, you’d not survive a single mob in Orr.

It was inevitable as my current goal is to have a fully geared out toon of each proffession. I just finished my ele focusing purely on D/D. Must say out of all the characters I’ve played so far being a magic ninja is the most challenging and rewarding so far. It’s just a shame that the AoE nerf is hanging over us like the sword of Damocles at the moment. Ah well, ill enjoy it whilst it lasts!
i Always play casters…
So when game was released the choice was between mesmers and eles
I choose eles….i did also a mesmer afterward
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
I always play wizards/mages. While scepter and staff play styles are more of the normal mold for MMO mages the dd is a refreshing unique change. Who ever came up with the idea for the dd set up at Anet did an excellent job of bringing something unique an very fun to play.
Battlemage d/d spec since beta.
The best weapon against an enemy is another enemy.
well i already had an awesome name for my ele and i had to have it before someone else did. named it Toversletje and later turned out to be offensive.
That’s because it IS offensive in the language of the country you’re from. Quite more than a bit offensive actually.
I’ve tested some offensive builds, the dmg is nice but if 2 or more jump me i kiss the world good bye.My average 20~ fps doenst help either :> (spvp)
What helps me there is a full Tahlkora set. (condi/vit/healing) with full Mercy Runes (lotta toughness). I don’t toss ZOMGWTFBBQ dmg, but I can sling enough and live a lil longer while doing it. Fortunately, Ele scales hella nice on healing power.
Of course, that’s my WvW/PvE set. Still working out kinks for PvP.

Pretty much this.A fast paced high apm caster.
Almost 2 weeks in gw now and loving it so far..despite the gay build we are forced to play in pvp.Forced, only if yer wanting to go FotM. I rep 0/25/0/20/25 and do alright. It is a tradeoff, however: bit less tanky, but some more damage options. Especially when one splits time between weapon types.

I’ve taken a couple of 2v1s with my glass cannon build (think it’s 30/20/0/0/20 or 30/30/0/0/10) and even a 3v1 a while back when Eles were still considered awful in pvp.
Vayra – Elementalist
Forkrul Assail – Mesmer
One big reason was the sophistication of the party support role. The elemental has some decent damage numbers on its own, but is also able to hugely affect the outgoing damage of the party and reduce incoming damage. Healing capabilities are good. Condition removal and application is good. Crowd Control is good. Buffs are good. A party with a well played elementalist is enhanced in many ways.
Always played the mage archtype in other MMO’s thought to myself, my only option was the elementalist! It’s a nice change though, fighting in close combat as I’m playing a D/D. Thought we should be able to fight from afar, if only they improved some staff skills imo.
I’ll never forget the summer I found out that a magnifying glass is a never ending heat ray… it was a bad summer for the ants in our street
Why Ele? Oh I dunno, might be the burning things.

What that person said… PvE (PvP or WvW has no meaning to me) :-) oooh… and my D/D and Mini Skirt combo :-p

Caster, Meteor Shower, versatility and dresses!
Decided to start one of my previously created characters after my Mesmer. I chose my Ele over my Thief because it looked like lots of fun. Let’s see:
Flashiness
Attunement Dancing
‘Difficult’ to play
D/D looked like fun
Was said to be weak at the time
I originally wanted to play Glass Cannon, but then after dying so many times early game I decided I wanted to spec for survivability XD Turns out awhile later everyone would be crying D/D Ele OP Bring on the nerfs! >:) I love a good challenge, and I’d love to see how many people stop playing ele because of it.
Love playing mages. Staff has long range, love playing glass canon (and survive more than others in party ofc) and cool effects (not just visual).
First played in BWE3 and really got in love with Air spells. Later I realized I need to swap elements and I really liked. Ofc, it is all rounder class and can fit in any role so many people hate it (seems even ANet hate him).
