Hello all, I have been away since last Jan. And I was wondering the state of the engineer class.

I used to run the toolbox spec with mainly HP and Toughness gear. I would run in pvp and smack people in the face with wrenches while not dieing. My old spec I could fight any class to a stalemate. My question is if this is still possible and what are the tankish engineer specs that do well in pvp( please no pve posts).

Omg tanky engi is so weak in pve it doesnt do 40k+ on its 100blades.

Engi is in a good place in wvw and pvp tank and burst wise.

Carpboys dura engi is really solid.

actually, engineers do quite some damage in PVE, and insane range damage, if you factor in that you are destroying things from a safe distance. Also, they are bursty, which helps killing some nasty things fast.

You probably don’t hit as hard as a warrior (that’s debatable), but youll never have the chance to find out, as warriors are waiting for a full warrior + mesmer lineup, instead of actually running the dungeon.

In spvp I haven’t played them much, but I’ve read and it seems reasonable, that they can defend a point with the insane CC.

In WvW, throwing your grenades from a safe distance seems like a nice bet, and there are builds that put you in the middle of the enemy zerg, for some nice chaotic mayhem and frustration spreading.

Coming from a necro, I find the playstle quite refreshing, and I don’t miss anything (well, the survivability while running zerker builds maybe).
