Q:

First about game play. Is there really any point to picking up turrets? It seems if you picked them up you should be able to cast them quicker, but I don’t believe that is the case.

Secondly, does ANET not know what to do with us? They seem to be making engineers better, for the most part, but it seems our biggest concerns (IE back pieces, etc.) are ignored, we got one dev post about it a while back but since then nothing.

When you pick up a turret the cooldown is reduced (Healing turet by 5 sec, rifle turret by 5 sec, I forget the rest).

It’s a mix between making engis better and worse. This upcoming patch is taking away a lot of build diversity (specifically the explosives trait line) simply because all the adept tier traits will be practically worthless. On the other hand back pieces are a far larger obstacle than people seem to make them out as. If they remove hobosacks then the enemy would have a harder time distinguishing you. At the same time if they decided to have back pieces overwrite hobosacks they would have to do some very major design changes to make sure that each kit stands out (kinda) rather than just holding X weapon in your hand (wrench, grenade, blah blah).

There are benefits to picking turrets up and exploding them. If you have the opportunity to pick them up I would suggest it as you do reduce their cd by 25%, otherwise you should take advantage of the resulting combo blast from detonations/push back/etc; potentially greater utility in regards to both options.

Secondly, does ANET not know what to do with us? They seem to be making engineers better, for the most part, but it seems our biggest concerns (IE back pieces, etc.) are ignored, we got one dev post about it a while back but since then nothing.

Regarding this particular case I feel it is less about the devs knowing what they should do with us as it is the immense amount of work involved with re-inventing a class because of poor original design concepts. Maybe they imagined Engineers would love seeing the same exact thing every kitten day they played their character while others were able to show off their new fancy aesthetics? Whatever the case may be the end result is the same, this was merely a poor design concept that is nifty at first but quickly shows there was no regards for aesthetic solutions or legendary integration.

ty for your answers, didn’t know about the cooldown on turrets, just don’t use them enough. It’s funny though, in GW1 I never really cared about how things looked. But here I really want to show off my backpieces that I worked for. Or my legendary visual effects even when holding a kit.
