Are we designed to never get to use this ability? It’s on such a long cool down that i think it’s honestly designed that way. 2nd ability; Who wants to pull an enemy towards them? You can use it interrupt a single person trying to get you but even if you time it perfectly you STILL don’t get to use your 3rd downed ability?

I never have trouble with it.

I want to pull them toward me, just before I use the 3 skill as the AoE damage/knock back that it is.

Third downed ability has a really long warmup timer, but it hits like a TRUCK and AoE knockback is crazy good. More than a few times have I Booby Trapped a person off a cliff and rallied off of them. Hilarious. In sPVP you have a lot more opportunities to use it than WvWvW. I love it personally, although I agree i’d love to see it shortened by a couple seconds.

Number 2 is a great skill; the intention is to use the pull at an opportune time to set up your booby trap. Not always possible, but there’s other great uses! Pull people away from other downed allies, interrupt dunks, and best of all; pull people into the champion guards outside of spawncamps. Fun times!

All in all I think engineer’s downed skills are great. Much better than mesmer or ranger downed skills :>

#3 abilities are not designed to be used straight after #2, you get one stomp stopper but you can’t do second one straight away. Would you like to have your stomp stopped twice every time?

The damage is okay (hello mesmer 6k dmg) with a knockback. But if you are downed this long, something is wrong. Not to mention it can be countered with stability and blind.

Something that takes that long to be available + a cast time better be awesome, and it simply is not. Its like a Little Ol’ Bomb.

That’s nice. This game as a whole, the engineer class, and the engineer down skills are not all based around PvP though. In WvW, solo or group in PvE, this skill is very handy. I play PvP as well, so I see where your coming from. I play all 3 forms of the game. In 2v2 or 3v3 in PvP it gets used too, because they do not always have time to take away to try to stomp, and team mates do not have time to revive. Enemies just try to get a shot on you often enough to keep you from reviving. Trust me, in this PvP situation, an AoE knock back is ridiculously handy, especially when it comes from the last place they expect it, the downed guy.

If I can time it right, I can use the Pull to interrupt a “Finish Them”, and just before they finish the next attempt, knock them back.

And that’s when they switch to a bow and snipe me to death.

The Thief’s downed abilities are ridiculously more helpful than ours. So are the Warrior’s.

All in all I think engineer’s downed skills are great. Much better than mesmer or ranger downed skills :>

i disagree about Mesmer, i think mesmer downed state is one of the best.. but thats just my preference, it does suck when you dont have an interrupt, but the damage of the illusionary rogue is Awesome, and the #2 ability is Awesome… guess it depends on playstyle… but, personally, i think mesmer’s downed state outshines ours.

Its not that ability 3 has a bad effect, it takes to long to become available. Its one of those abilities thats hardly ever used simply because you dont get the chance to. And that applies to PvP AND PvE.

In order to keep this discussion productive we should try a couple of things (I know it’s the internet, but I have faith in all of us ):

) Provide evidence of our opinions, assuming your experience is indicative of all experiences is a fallacy.

) Make an attempt to be unbiased.

I doubt you have any evidence to support your blunt claim and statement that the #3 skills is hardly ever used in PvE.

My opinion is that engineers would be better served in pvp if the 2 and 3 skills timers were reversed. In hot-join matches, more often than not, more than one person is trying to stomp you out so the #2 ability doesn’t help. However, if we could use the knockback instead of the pull-toward to stop the first stomp, that might buy us time to use the pull-toward on the next opponent.

The reality is, in sPvP, mesmers, warriors, and thieves have far greater downed abilities than the other classes simply because they can escape the initial stomp (sometimes multiple stomps) and it buys them more time to dps an opponent who is low.

At first I wanted to suggest that it might be OP. But isn’t necro’s fro example, #3 skill 10 second and it does the same effect in the end that our 20s #3 skill does .

In real pvp situations in s/tpvp if you even get the chance to use #3 you’re playing against incredibly horrible people. Even in PvE the cooldown it has before it’s use makes it hardly used as well. The interrupt on #2 can be useful sometimes but overall our downed state is garbage in it’s current state. Making it so #3 has no immediate cool-down and cut the reuse time in half would be a decent start.

A bigger problem is that the #2 skill just decides not to work a lot of the time. At first I thought it was because of stability but then I noticed that most people it doesn’t work on don’t have stability. It just fails for no apparent reason.

Engineer has the worst downed state by far.

As Cheyenne stated #2 doesn’t work some times this is usually an issue with terrain if the area you’re in is even slightly curved it fails due to obstruction even if it’s clear line of site.

I have just come to face the fact tht if I am downed and there is more than one enemy around then I am dying and it will most likely be before I can get #3 off. Skill #2 is only good for yanking ppl off walls which hardly ever works.

I have also faced the fact the if you down another profession tht is not an Engineer it is almost pointless to try and finish them right away unless you pop elixir S or U.

@CriSPeH Skill #2 is actually good for interrupting abilities this includes a stomp in pvp even if they’re standing on your head it interrupts. In PvE if you’re downed and most of your group is dead and there are multiple mobs on 1 person you can pull one away to help not that it makes a huge difference but it does have some level of value it could use a shorter cooldown imho though

Skill #2 has its uses sure.
I don’t think it fits the engineer though, it is a lame rip off of a MK move.

It should be a mechanical arm tht grabs the opponent and shakes the kitten out of them.

Normally by the time I get to use the 3rd ability, I’m dead immediately afterwards. I do like the fact that if #3 gets the job done then i can recover with #4, but i’m rarely fortunate enough to get into that situation

In PVP, Warrior has by far the worse set of downed skills. A single target knockback and an ability that will literally kill you. Their number three skill is to make sure that when you are having a downed fight to the death, that you take your opponent with you. But again, you still die.

Also, this isn’t an issue that is exclusive to Engineer. ALL professions have #3 skills that they’ll rarely use because it’s either:
1) Too Weak (Necromancer/Guardian/Elementalist #3)
2) Can’t get to use it in time (Warrior, Engineer, Ranger #3)

The only professions that can use their number three skill reliably are Mesmers and Thieves. This is because both of their number 2 skills buy them enough time to use their number 3 skills and it will actually make a difference on most occasions.

No, I would hate that, which is why I find it kind of annoying that a handful of other professions can do that. How many times has a rogue jumped away from your stomp and then follow with a stealth? How many times has a mesmer done something similar? Honestly, being able to use our #3 probably won’t save us half as much as we would want it to, but I’d be happy if I could at least use it.

We don’t even need to reduce the warm-up time on it; just change the way our #2 works. If it were at least a gap-creator (as opposed to a gap-closer) like some of the other professions have (elementalist, mesmer, thief, etc.) then we’d at least have a shot at popping it.

Also, our #2 just doesn’t make sense. I understand that it does interrupt stomps, and that’s great, but why in the Hell would anyone want to pull their killer toward them? I’m just throwing random ideas out, but wouldn’t it make much more sense to have a hidden rocket in our sleeve to knock them back or something? How many people would lie helpless on the ground and think, “aw man that guy’s coming at me with a knife, I better pull him closer.” It would make more sense, and it might give us a chance to actually use our #3.

I know someone who just spams the buttons and gets up most of the time doing so. I try to time my skills and use #4 to try to get up myself, and manage to die more often.

I don’t really know how much downed abilities really help.
