6/25 Patch notes~
Ow… I didn’t use most of the other things. But with the removal of Elixer R’s stun breaker and a 1/2 second induction on the actual use. My normal PvP style is tossed on its head. I keep trying to stun break and I can’t. I try to instantly get endurance and I can’t.
oh well, I wasn’t playing much anyways.
update on 0 kit build playtesting in WvW:
personal battering ram is now a good replacement for rifle turret in a SD build. Rocket boots +slick shoes is just about the most amazing combo ever. Angle yourself right and you can knockdown an entire group in less than a second. Rocket boots + Superspeed + speedy kits means you have a lot of ways to escape, and when zergrunning you can use rocket boots to keep up with the group.
0 kits may not be optimal, but its really fun ^^

But Personal Battering Ram/Slickshoes , Rocket Boots and Elixgun and Speedy Gadgets you have everything for a PvP Setup. Many control options, some Combofields and with healing turret and shield even enough blasts to make use of your fields.

Wait, wait, wait, Healing Mist is an AoE regen. Is the stun break self-only, or does it affect anyone hit by the regen????

The animation of rocket boots looks ridiculous. Norn Male Engineer with twin pistols. It’s like I glide a little first then end with a roll.
Yeah, after looking at the other profession’s buffs, our changes really aren’t that awesome overall.
A lot of people read that we haven’t been nerfed to the ground for once and draw the conclusion that we got awesome changes, when in comparison to other classes we didn’t actually get much love at all.
They didn’t delete the entire Engineer class. To me, that’s a good patch day…

Throw Junk: Reduced weakness duration to 1 second.
So assuming it wasn’t accidentally left out of the notes, TY to the devs for realizing that nerfing the worst down state in the game wasn’t the best choice.
This. None of the sweeping weakness nerfs went through—not even the one to weakness itself. Same 50% chance it’s always been, now applies to crits too.
That’s far more interesting actually.

It’s a reverse protection buff; essentially, a 25% damage reduction.

Also, even though rocket boots no longer breaks stuns, it still breaks immobilize, cripple, and chill. Just use super speed —> rocket boots and you can get out of literally anything, so long as you don’t get hit again midair ^^

kitten , there’s some negative nancy’s up in here after reading the thread.
This was a kittening AMAZING Engineer patch. So focused on the few bad that you can’t see just how kitten good we got it this patch. SO many builds just opened up, some kitten strong ones. Offensive and defensive new builds. Its great!

Tested, no. They would definitely be best in a build with protection injection or fairly tanky. A squishy build probably needs a true stun break in combination with them for escape.

Very dissapointed again. Sad to say. Warrior sword became real menace, some got torment and engi these so called buffs. Battering ram is nice but utilty slot skill 150 range is sucky for SD builds where u want to stay far from enemy. Rifle is more bugged that before. Mortar range +100 changed nothing. Rocket boots look nice but why stun break gone?
- We have no cleanses in gadgets and no stability. Im afraid engi is going to drop from sledge. Others develop we just bugg more.
Most annoying part was tools grandmaster trait giving AEGIS for 5 secs. Aegis reflect ONE attack!!!!! It should have been STABILITY with longer cool down!

It no longer breaks Stun

Anyone else noticing that the actual effect of the combo isn’t activated until you land?

There is something to also look at while looking at stuns: stabilized armor now provides a 20% reduction while KDed or stunned.
This is good. The reason why this is good is because engineers already have a really awesome trait for when they are KDed or stunned: Protection fueled injection. We get protection when we are stunned, pretty much every time we are stunned.
So, we get a 20% reduction to damage, and on top of that we get a boon that gives a further 33% reduction in damage, resulting in an overall 47% reduction in damage while stunned, meaning we take 53% damage while disabled. If we go further and add on Saffron Bread to the mix, we end up taking only 40% of the damage we would normally take when stunned.
While running my turret build in sPVP, I would often debate whether or not I should take a stun breaker in my last slot. Now, I don’t need to anymore. Protection Fueled Injection saved me times innumerable, and now it is 20% stronger.
I think the reasoning for nerfing so many stun breakers is because right now, we’re outdoing guardians in pretty much everything they do. We already have a ton of blocking and evading abilities, we have a ton of hard + soft control, plenty of movement skills, and so much support and utility it is nigh endless. Do we really need a lot of stun breakers or stability?
BTW this is assuming that the stun break function to the elixir gun was unintended. If it wasn’t… then kitten .

I noticed this as well, same when I blasted in a water field.

In general I like these changes… except for one thing-
Elixir R no longer has a stun breaker
This is pretty disappointing. I always thought this was one of the Engis must have skills when wanting support or a way for survivability. Personally, it allowed me to get out of sticky situations and to save my tail while supporting my allies. I don’t know how many times this skill has been incredibly useful for situations when an escape and support is needed. I’ll still use the elixir because the support aspect is needed for my build; however, I doubt my effectiveness will be as great considering I do not have a stun breaker at my disposal.

I understand the Elixir R change for PvP, but for PvE it’s now pretty useless. I thought I remember them having the ability to make separate versions of the skill for each. I think they should have used that here and left the stun break in for PvE where the downed revive isn’t as useful.

Well.. you gotta bear in mind that most players confuse personal failures at playing effectively with design problems..
Also, realize that we all have our own lens through which we view the profession. PvE/WvW engis and sPvP engis value different class characteristics. On balance, when sPvP has a “great” patch, it’s not unusual for WvW and/or PvE to be disappointed.
Rocket Boots are fun, but animation seems stops for a second after leap.
But i noticed bug with rifle’s jump shot, leap and landing damage is switched as the animation too – anybody noticed that ?
AND… Did you see this change?

This is a good patch for the Eng. Really appreciate the work they’ve done on gadgets and traits (now only require 40pts to fully spec the FT).
Sure hope the Healing Mist Stun break is intended. If so, then combined with the changes to the Firearms trait line (Ft/Eg no longer tie up 50/40 pts) it makes 4 kit builds are viable again.
Of course ‘viable’ is a relative term. The impact of the patch on other classes will determine whether this will help our poor standing in PvE, or make more eng builds vaible in zerg v zerg WvW.

Skills got much improved, traits however are still mostly chaff. Out of 7 major and 7 minor traits, I’ll have 2 or 3 that actually matter, the rest are usually crap.

I wasn’t saying that every build out there used it. Elixir R was just a really good way to round out the versatility of the Engi in certain builds. I recently ran the new dungeon with my same build and the amount of stuns that were thrown around were pretty crippling without that stun breaker. It is just annoying that I now have to either run about without a stun breaker, or switch out Elixir R or another elixir for something that has a stun breaker. I will miss that small key component to my build that made it complete. I suppose I’ll just try to do my best and make do with what is given.
It’s worth noting that using Rocket boots when inflicted with Torment tends to kills you faster. Personally tested with cooperation from a guildie who mains a cond necro.

From what I understand from reading the wiki is that you take twice more damage per second as long as you are moving, not based on distance traveled. So wether you run or use rocket boots you would still take the same damage

Yeah, I get that. Just that using Rocket Boots (which are now viable) may not be the best option vs a cond necro with torment. This new cond will take some time to learn to counter (if possible). So far, I’d say blocking may be the only option since cond cleanse won’t remove it. The one thing I wish they had done on the 25th is to give eng more cond cleanse btw.
