Access to HAMMER not in the minor traits.
erm… it’s obviously just missing lol
Other elite specs have access to the new weapons in their minor traits. But not the scrapper:
(Minor) Gyro Function: Gain access to the gyro function, Which can be used to finish a foe or revive an ally at range.
(Minor) Decisive Renown: Successfully reviving an ally or a foe finishing grants boons to nearby allies.
(Minor) Impact Savant: The duration of your outgoing stuns is Increased and the duration of stuns applied to you is Decreased.Does this means we can use the hammer without using elite spec?
They’re bad at adding in all the fine details but yes, you will still need to be a Scrapper to use a Hammer. Also missing from the list of traits is that Final Salvo causes your destroyed gyros to stun in a larger area. It’ll probably be mentioned in the tooltip as a lightning field that stuns but all they said on the text was lightning field.

This is not the first time that this has happened. I think the Reaper was first one to do that, but no, it does not mean we can use the weapon without using the Elite Specialization.

so wait.. does this mean I cant use hammer/mortar?
You can use Hammer and Mortar. You just can’t use Hammer unless you have the Scrapper spec attached

Gating hammer behind clearly defensive traitline while it have awesome offensive capabilites is incredibly bad decision.

why you would ever think it wouldn’t be locked behind the specialisation is beyond me. all the other specialisations are required to use their weapon, why would engineer be an exception?
currently a Boyfriend main :P
Waiting To ReRoll Mystic & Forget About Tyria
and what’s to say the scrapper trait line is purely defensive?
I am confused. I like the sound of a melee engineer, but the hammer the scrapper uses looks like a two handed hammer, but the “Meet the Scrapper” article only lists three skills attached to it. Shouldn’t a two handed weapon have five?
Probably a dumb question and I just misread something.
EDIT:
“We’re looking forward to further discussing the new scrapper specialization on our livestream this Friday on the official Guild Wars 2 Twitch channel. See you then!”
What time is this? ( may have been nice to mention in the article )
EDIT 2:
N/M Found another article about the time of the live stream:
“Points of Interest will air live on Friday, September 18 at noon Pacific Time (UTC-7) on the official Guild Wars 2 Twitch channel.”

I has 5 skills. They just didnt preview the autoattack and #2 skill yet. They specifically mention that the skills they preview are #3 Rocket Charge, #4 Shock Shield and #5 Thunderclap. Also one of the released pictures is named #2 Electro Whirl so there is propably some 360 degree hammer swing on #2.

Well they could argue because we hav eso few weapon choices? Not that I think this will happen but that would be a justification.

All Elite Specialization unlock weapons before you unlock the minor. It was shown in both the datamine as well as the in game leak bug.
I do agree that it is a bad decision to have such a good offensive weapon locked behind a very defensive trait line.
If you look at the trait info @ Dulfy, what little offensive trait it has are finishing off enemy in range, weakness and might when you get stability. It’s focus is just basically more super speed access and things that synergize with super speed. Rest are entirely defensive.
I really want to use hammer but those trait are just awful to even look at. I won’t even consider replacing any of Firearms/Inventions/Alchemy/Tools. Even Invention with all it’s defensive glory has a nice damage boost with the GM trait.

Hammer seems to be much more defensive to me.
Skill 2: reflecting missiles
Skill 3: evade
Skill 4: block
Skill 5: stun
Actually, it has access near to ALL defensive mechanics in this game.

Hammer isnt a offensive weapon, in fact the damage of the weapon is pretty bad

Yep. I think our melee kits may need to be tweaked somewhat to provide a good DPS option for scrappers.
Vuln, might and stun on a melee weapon is certainly very offensive. Defensive too but it’s certainly more offensive than pistol or rifle. DPS wise we’ll have to see until after next BWE.

I disagree with you, Im sure hammer has no place in a max dps rotation instead of other weapons, and tbh the might and vul stacking are only viable on PvE, on PvP you are not going to hit half of things with the AA and vuln skills, and on a PvE environtment you have more reliable skills in order to stack vuln and you dont need to self-stack power… Hammer is a deffensive weapon :/

I didnt think that. Just saying its bad decision

It was mentioned previously and also I think shown on one of the streams, weapon-granting was given through a special trait right under the specialization slot, separate from the minor trait, you’ll see a small hammer icon. In fact dating all the way to the reaper stream you can see this extra icon.
