Alchemist? :S
How about we call it chemical engineering, k? ^^
I always saw engineers potions as genetic engineering more than alchemy.
elixirs were not what I visioned for this profession, as I rolled it.
Not a bad thing as such, options are never bad.
But it does get sad when elixirs prove to be the most viable and most used skillset we have…
Seeing as I am a turret eng I wouldn’t mind if they took out elixirs and gave them to a alchemist class, I’d love to see how that classes other mechanics would play out seems like a cool idea
Nanobots. Nanotechnology introduced into the body in a simple liquid via oral administration. As engineers, we must design and build these tiny machines.
Now…if we can fabricate such powerful nanobots, why can’t we get our turrets to function better?

That’s because the Engineer class is the representation of the “Mad Scientist” trope in the GW2 universe. Turrets that explode, weird potions with random effects, strange gadgets etc…

But in the lore the engineer are a derivitive of the Charr, building war machines and steam-powered death. I don’t hear “Charr” and think “Mad Scientist.” I think “that Charr scientist is mad…that his flamethrower can’t kill more than 5 people at once.”

The Charr started the trend but Engineer isn’t a class restricted to them. All the races got their own that added their own fancy stuff to it.
It’s also maybe a bit of a shoutout to the “miracle tonics” of old, although these ones actually have noticeable effects other than taking your money and giving you health problems.
I’m actually a bit surprised the elixirs don’t have negative side effects on use that would… er, wait, nevermind… don’t want to give people ideas…
Heh. I look at Alchemy/Elixirs as being more like the Mutagens from the Witcher series.
I could definately see some Asura or Lecter-esque Charr going for that route.
It could also be derived from Sylvari and their plant-parts, tbh.

Two years later, on the Alchemist subforum… Wow, these devs really have no idea where they are going with our class. I feel like our class was just, Thrown together at the last moment. Like seriously, where do they think they’re going?

They’re too big?

But what if they’re built out of nanobots? o.O

Alchemist? Get it right!! we’re MAGICIANS… we graduated with harry potter remember?
They really needs to remake the Engineer class, just from this thread there are alot of confusion around the engineer useing alchemy!
At the very best we engineers get something when a new expansion are released!
