Anyone have recommendations for fun/competitive WvW builds for zerging (mainly) and maybe some occasional small group roaming?

I’ve been using the HGH Flamethrower build for some time now which is fun, but I’m starting to get bored of it. When I originally switched to an Engi main I did so for the versatility and now with new specialization system its killed alot of the viable hybrid/experimental builds. Now I feel forced to either focus more on survivability: “Alchemy” – (Protection Injection/Backpack Regenerator) and “Inventions” – (Automated Medical Response/Mecha Legs/Bunker Down) or give one up for more damage.

My current gear is:
Full Ascended Berserker – Runes of Strength
Ascended Berserker Rifle – Air/Energy
(Considering changing Air -> Strength, but I’m not sure if its worth it as I can easily maintain 15-20 stacks Might solo already)
Trinkets – Mix of Berserker and Celestial
(Celestial is mainly for added survivability, but I may change it back later on)

Ideally I’d rather not change too much of my gear setup (especially the Runes) as they were incredible expensive. I was originally considering “Rune of the Pack” instead so if anyone has had good experience with them let me know if it’s worthwhile.

Also, can someone explain to me if there’s a trick to the Healing Turret combo? Whenever I execute the combo (double press): Healing Turret-> Cleansing Burst -> Detonate, I only get the burst heal about half the of the time or else nothing happens and the CD starts counting down. Sometimes I wait for the Healing Burst animation to trigger first (which in my experience it usually doesn’t) before detonating which sometimes works, but most of the time it still does nothing and feels like a complete waste of a heal. This is incredible irritating and one of the main reasons I switched to “Elixir H” in the first place.

You just have to time it right, overcharge it and watch till water comes out then blast, and be in the field too.

your turret problem is due to server lag. these issues are not just with that ability or jsut with engi, they are across all professions with multi tiered skills. For zerging you want to sue most direct single function abilities or you won’t get the full benefits. especially when zerging and double that again if in upper tiers.

as far as your build goes, i dont understand why you are running rally-bait gear for it, you are overall detrimental to your team unless all you do is follow a blue dorrito in EOTM and remain exclusively in text chat. your entire gear set is more suited to open world PvE then WvW. its not good for roaming cause lacks condis, not good for zerging cause you’re rally-bait, even in pve in 40+ fractals, if you were in my group you’d down too much and would have to be replaced.

as far as alternate builds go, try elite mortar traited, damage from mortar sucks but you dont use it for damage, you use it mostly for the utility and double blast finisher that happens to also be a nice little burst.

if you dont like FT anymore then try different kit, nades, toolkit ? i remember back in teh day there was a pretty sick engi running around in WvW with us, he was different in taht he was a frontliner. all bunker, shield + toolkit or bombkit if i remember correctly. not sure if such a build is still possible, but you can experiment if you’re looking for something different, not as if honor badge + karma exotics cost anything to get and you can use cheap runes and sigils on it.

so maybe someone here is still running such a build and can chime in.

Just whipped it up right now based off something I’m currently testing. Rocket turret is there just for the toolbelt skill. The toolbelt skill is beastly in damage and you’ll be surprised the numbers you’ll get from it. Rocket boots is there for mobility, Elixir S just there if you need to escape from a sticky situation and you main tool is actually the Mortar kit because of it’s immense range and toolbelt skill.

Double Rocket (after dodging an attack and proccing Kinetic Battery) combined with Double Orbital strike will be some crazy damage when going into a zerg.

I like to run with runes of altruism, zerker + ravager 3/3split on armour, cele trinkets, Med kit is best choice here, lets you utilise altruism properly. so you can give out a little might and fury to allies every 10 secs with less drawback, feels like a mini FGJ, slightly more helpful in the blob, and works kinda nicely with the speedy kit thing too. With the healing bonuses it grants you could potentially make some kind of support build with it.

All other utilities are your choice;
Imo its: Rifle, with Blust and generosity, elixirgun, toolkit, rocket boots, n supply drop. but in the end all you would really need for this is medkit on your bar, free choice over anything else, hope this helps

There was a Mortineer build around here somewhere you might enjoy. I know you can search it on YouTube. Would go along with your Zerker gear i think. I have seen several Engis run it.
