I’m new to the game and engineer is my first character. I’m currently lvl 25. I placed my first 10 points in bombs and my next ones are going into guns. I liked dual pistols but then I tried out bombs at lvl 20. I have been running the train a lot killing those world bosses. Bombs do amazing dps compared to my pistol but I find myself getting my rear handed to me more with bombs. I have started using a combination of the 2 now. I run in drop bombs on the bosses and then run out and swap over to ranged when I start taking damage. Is this a common way of doing things or am I making a mistake swapping in and out between bomb kit and pistol.

One other question is the healing turret any good or should I just stick with the standard heal.

thanks

If your the only one fighting a mob, it will be attacking you no matter what your attacking with.

I used bombs primarily (still do) leveling up, and I didn’t have the same problem. Are you using gear with toughness or vitality? Are you dodging when the boss does its tell (most every mob has a tell before it attacks) ??

Well engineer is bit dificult to make some decent builds on lower levels. Just wait till lvl 80 and build after. Healing turret is amazing especialy in PvP

I’m have the most problems when I’m running with the zerg. no, im not dodging there is so much going on around the boss I can’t really see whats going on. Soloing a quest is not really a problem they generally die fast enough with bombs or guns.

I’m stacking power for what its worth. Is that a mistake?

Honestly I have tried to look and see if I am making a mistake with my build but I have never seen so many opinions on builds as I have with the engineer. I came from wow and there was usually a generally accepted leveling build but here it seems like there are 50 different opinions on the matter

For now i would suggest you to take 10 points on the Tools trait line, for the Speedy Kits. It will not help you with damage, but will make you explore the map really fast, so leveling up faster too.

Well thats becouse Engi doesnt really have 1 generally accepted build.

Pistol is condition damage based so if you want to stick with Power/Precision (direct damage) switch to Rifle.

Remember though that for the Engi his main weapon isnt really his main weapon… its more of a utility tool. Most of our damage comes from kits.
For direct damage that would be Grenade Kit (especially past level 60 when you unlock Grandmaster Traits and get Granadier) or Bomb Kit or Flamethrower Kit (although FT is kinda lackluster in terms of damage). For condition damage that would be Elixir Gun, maybe with FT for the Tool Belt skill.

And of course, dont forget about the Tool Belt. Grenade Kit gives you Grenade Barrage wich deals buckets of damage. If you decide to put 10 points into Tools and get Static Discharge, then having Rifle Turret is a good idea becouse of its Tool Belt skill, Surprise Shot wich has a very short cooldown.

It sounds to me as if it is less of a build problem and more of a ISP, rig your using, or lag type issue. If your playing ranged when with the zerg, you should be seeing a red circle on the ground warning you to move. If your not seeing that, then there is a problem with either your computer, ISP, connection, or any combination of the 3 causing you not to see it.

I dont think its a latency or computer problem. If I saw a red circle I probably thought it was someones spell. I didn’t know it meant move your butt someones fist is about to slam down on your head

Another dumb question

Do bombs crit?
if they do does precise sights in firearms apply to bombs?

Yes indeed the crit. As well, yes, precise sight works on it.

The vary top of any forums page has a icon “wiki”. Click on it and do a search for any skill or trait like that, and it will generally give you a good explanation. It is indeed handy.

But yeah, red circles will show on the ground giving you a 2 second warning that an AoE is about to occur in that area. White circles tend to represent friendly AoE buffs. So try to get into white circles and dodge through red ones.

As far as the friendly circles go, I would like to direct you here.
