Anet Engineer players?
Server : Anvil Rock (Since Release!) [SOLO]
I think it makes perfect sense to have one class dev playing every class, if we have two thief devs one of them should switch to engineer – Not having at least one for every class is something I can only view as blatant slacking from the developers and deliberate slighting of the class that needs the most work.
Well I don’t know if it’s a must. They usually do that with there free time. But it would be a really good thing.
Just like when the balance guys of Anet said we could hit for 24k with 100nade combo from a random photoshopped screen shot on the pvp forum. Any engineer knew the screenshot was fake, yet they didn’t.

Is that where this 100nade nerf came from? I never heard about 100nades til someone said it was getting nerfed O.o
Well Kark McClain took this as an example. And they read a lot the sPvP forum.
So yeah I’m pretty sure they took this as an example for the nerf. This is the only time I saw a 24k damage 100nade. And it wasn’t real.

Engineer forums, more so than other Profession forums seem to have larger number of hostility towards the designers. If you take a moment to scan the other professions they are usually far less aggressive. Don’t get me wrong, I am very passionate about the Engineer profession and completely biased, seeing as it is my favorite. And i want to see Utility and trait synergy as much as the next Engineer. But I feel that working with the designers would increase the effectiveness of communication with whatever developer may be perusing the forums at the time. Constructive critics are a rare breed in such a competitive game but with all “teams” working together against a common foe (Engineer bugs, glitches, and suggestions) could only strengthen a potential Anet Designer. For better of for worse, they know what their doing and what is going to be done.

Not entierly without reason.

True, but they have to give a little for this relationship to work.
@Wolf
I don’t see anymore hostility in this forum then others classes.
Just check the necromancer or ranger forum. Ranger have been making fun of Jon Peters for 2 month because he said a big patch were coming for them, and finaly they received underwater buff.
And yet they have a developper working closely with the communty.
Anet guys are used to have hostile people on the forum, we are on internet after all.
Since january, it feels like Anet stopped to communicate with the players. Well they rarely do it. I feel like it’s a mistake.
And wolf, I was poiting to the fact that it would be cool to have an Anet dev playing Engineer. I personnaly don’t think they have one, because of the things I named before.

Absolutely, and I did not mean to sound like I was directing my statement at anyone. I was just throwing it out there in the void. I agree I have no knowledge of any developer devoted to the Engineer profession. And I would equally enjoy their input, especially on some of our fellow engineer posts in particular. There are some great suggestions and innovations out there.

I’m trying to find the video, but I did see a video interview with one of the Arena Net guys and the interview covered a lot of different things but in that interview that dev did say that the Engineer is their main profession they played. I don’t remember which dev it was, but I do remember him saying it.

Like someone said previously, I’m sure they all played engineer in sPvP. Like they played every class.
But I highly doubt he is maining one, or playing it often.
When they talked about Engineer, Tyler didn’t say too much ether. He only spoke during the turret spart saying some engineer prefer that style of play.
And if he was maining one, he should have never let Karl say that thing about 24k 100nade and he would not have let them broke our kit refinement
Server : Anvil Rock (Since Release!) [SOLO]
Test on engineer against the test dummies, maybe. Actually play the class for enjoyment, very well doubt it.
and Nah 24k is totally possible, just find a lone lvl 2 in WvW
take that same lvl 2 and hit him with killshot and you should get around 40k+
from what was said during the last SoTG, Tyler is maining an Engi, or at least it’s his favorite class.
if you want to see what classes the Dev’s play I suggest doing PvP on Fridays. They usually run a team then. I solo queued into a group with 4 devs during Spirit Watch week. Needless to say I carried them
I’ve stayed at this party entirely too long
That’s the problem, all they do is play sPvP and not WvW or PvE. They need to see things from a PvE>WvW—>sPvP approach. Right now its sPvP———→PvE>WvW.

oh you are wrong…..the ranger forum have been cursing anet dev like hell. I was following it cause i had a ranger as my first character until i shelved it and started an engineer.
i find the engineer forum like the brady bunch. nice and happy go lucky. Those in ranger forum were like psychopaths…lol
Having say that….the devs give zero attention to engineers.
Its good if there arent! Then they wont see how Awsomely OP class we can be
Anyway i do hate the weak turrets

Sure Eng can be awesome.
- But how many actually achieve that with their Eng?
- Do we achieve that level of awesomeness more than other classes? No we don’t. If we did we’d dominate the SPvP boards – and we don’t.
Thanks for your comment. Now please stop making posts that are likely to attract teh attention of ANet’s class nerfing team.
p.s. Why does the Eng forum get all these ego pumped “we’re OP” posts? We seem to get them far more than any other GW2 forum.
Man if Tyler is really, really maining an Engineer, he got to have a talk with the balance team.
Not because we are bad, we are actually really good.
But what about the kit refinement nerf? What was that?
Server : Anvil Rock (Since Release!) [SOLO]
I’ve seen their 5-man Engineer tPvP team before, and we have been told Tyler plays an Engineer at the very least.

Sums up the game in general. Just about every balance decision is done based on SPVP performance and meta.

But don’t you see? That’s where the money is! Why wouldn’t a business concentrate most on what brings in the revenue? Am I right? Right? … No?? ok.

Agreed. I don’t really mind the concept of changing or nerfing kit refinement, but their change was just so buggy and awkward.
At the very least though, they do listen to feedback, and improvements happen, surely even if slowly.

Not sure you’re right there. GW2 has made, and no doubt still makes, far more revenue from account sales and PvE/WvW add-ons than it’s likely to do from SPvP for a very long time.
Arena PvP may be a growing area of e-games, but its still tiny compared with the huge following and spend on open world MMOs. I’ve not seen any GW2 population figures, but from all accounts SPvP numbers are very small compared with PvE and WvW. What are the overall figures? Over 3 million GW2 accounts purchased (at an average of say US$50/account)? Then there’s the add-on spend by those who only play PvE and WvW. Even if PvE and WvW players are spending far less per month, than the SPvP’ers, there’s so much more of them that the numbers have to be hugely in their favour. Also, where does GW2 get most of its SPvP players? It’s safe bet that its primarily from GW2 WvW and PvE, and will be for a long time yet.
It’s one thing to know how to make money from people once they get into SPvP. But if those players never get to SPvP in the first place because they’re put off by issues along the way, then ANet won’t get any SPvP revenue from them at all.
Its obvious ANet are focussing on making SPvP more attractive so they can get up-sell SPvP to more of their customer base. However, with PvE and WvW being the primary “try it, see if you like it” zones for GW2, too many of teh potential PvP players are too put off by class imbalances in those zones to even consider trying SPvP with their favourite character/class.
Which brings us all the way back to how important it is to fix class imbalances in PvE and WvW as these will still be the primary source of new SPvP players.
I’m a bit bored this afternoon, and I was wondering : Do we have someone from Anet staff playing Engineer?
Jon Peters seems to play mesmer,
1-2 other dev are playing thief and warriors,
Robert Hrouda plays Ranger,
ect..I was wondering, does anyone remember if we have some dev playing our classe? The only thing I remember, is they stated they once played a 5 man engineer team in sPvP “as a joke team”. Wasn’t cool.
I’m also wondering because of how they nerfed kit refinement in the worse way, saying it was too strong for an adept trait yet we don’t have any good master/GM trait. Also how a dev took 10 minutes to debug our medkit trait and didn’t seem to know about it, while it was bugged since release and well known.
On the other side, I also think it quit cool to have a dev following the class and reacting to bug/demands. When mesmer had trouble with clone, Jon Peter would communicate with them all day long and day to day debug. Also Robert Hrouda have a really good communication with the ranger forum, and share tweaks and resolve bugs with them. I love that guy
Do we have a silent dev roaming with an engineer and cursing turrets?
What do you think guys?
P.S : I’m bored this post doesn’t have any real points. And I know most class doesn’t have a dedicated Dev.
P.S 2 : Maybe we can send a cake to Robert Hronda like necromancer to convince him to play an engineer.
If that’s the case it explains ALOT! really it does, it lets us know how little they care. No one there has our back. the only testing that’s being done is the none PTR testing that isn’t really known for accuracy. And no one (in charge) is playing this class long enough and regular enough to realize just how little they got right with it.
I’m hanging out in the ether even tho I’ve resolved that they probably will never learn, but curious to see just what happens next.
I can tell you now tho, tired of everyone saying it shouldn’t be a powerful class, it should definitely be a powerful class, because of the type of weapons (kits) it uses but it keeps getting nerfed so that the dev favorites remain the strongest. That’s not balance I hate to tell you folks but it’s not. True balance means you nerf your favorites when it’s OP no matter how you feel about your favorite. That’s one of the reasons people like me are driven away, we got tired of playing a engi ranger or necro and getting shafted by the devs apathy towards our class but watched while other classes were able to keep their relative OP sense to the extent of being able to solo 5 man content and survive. They’ve got a long way to go to get us back.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
That’s the dev philosophy destined to us Engineers. They WILL annihilate any potential for us to deal absurd amounts of damage. They WANT us to be the kings of versatility, in a place where versatility isn’t rewarded much, dungeoners would always want to pick classes that are best at what they do: Super damage, heavy support, utility. We’re really good at WvW, and even if we hold our own on PvE due to our solid amount of tools that’s not going to win us points to get selected.

That’s the problem right there. I rolled a Mesmer and a Guardian and I was able to farm 3000 badges quite easily. My Engineer main isn’t hardly getting any badges. Flamethower misses like crazy or die to Mesmers confusion. Grenades actually suck in zerg vs. zerg fight compared to other classe’s ranged AoE as well. Mesmer is great at ranged. Guardians have great control and great AoE and can actually do something in the zerg other than lob slow grenades.
The most important part and I want to stress it is compared
Tbh we have access to a lot of great burning abilities, but what we really lack is a great AoE bleeding ability. Yes we have explosive shot, but I think that what the Engineer really needs is a bouncing shot verse a piercing shot.

They most certainly do NOT need to see things from a PvE > WvW > PvP approach. Are you kidding? PvP is the most important balance point of the game, seeing as you COMPETE AGAINST OTHERS. It matters less in pve seeing as you fight computer controlled artificial intelligence that is not challenging on any level. What it should be is PvP > WvW > PvE.
No this doesn’t come from an elitist pvper, I have dungeon master and do plenty pve, only rank 26.
PvP & WvW roaming
The game has been out six months and we still have multiple Talents that literally do nothing.
And you think someone at Arena Net plays this class?

Officially they balance for SPvP.
In reality this is an excuse of their constant failures and idiocy. SPvP is probably the least balanced part of the game, in large part because of completely stupid mechanics.
since forums are almost 90 percent whining and kittening the devs have no reason to come here for a conversation or to chat. read any post anywehre on any forum and its negative whiney doomsaying garbage with no examples no videos no screenshots.. just a kitten fest. i would stay clear of this place too if i was them. they know that whatever they say even if its a buff or just showing a red tag on a post it will be swarmed by negative children whining about thier own issues that are usually l2 kitten ues.
okay new guy. thanks for the tips. go back to the thief forum.

It would also explain why they believe Engineers to be so versatile. It’s easy for an Engineer to fulfill all roles in a fight when there are 5 of them; But solo on the fly, they’re just as pigeon holed as other classes.

I guess you just outlined the problem when a Ranger (that other class at the bottom of the pile) can rake in more kills with less effort and exposure; even while his overall damage is kitten by broken pet mechanics causing it to die all the time from random AoE in WvW.
By the way, I thought Jon Peters was playing a 5-signet Warrior? At least I always assumed that’s why the warrior was always getting buffed while other classes got nerfed.

luckywaldo, not comparing classes here really. Get five of any single class together and they become rather OP. There’s a force multiplier effect that occurs with the skills. Plus players are familiar with all the skills of that single class and can complement easily.
I like what Mif said though.

You’d think that if there were one we’d have heard something from them by now. I mean, just a “hey, I rock a mean FT !!” would let us know one exists, let alone an opinion of the class and its future.
Having said that, I love my Engi and am 95% fine with where they are atm.

Hmm, I’m not sure what difference it makes to have a dev play your class. I mean, Hrouda’s been playing a ranger, but that is still the worst class in the game for PvE and arguably mediocre for PvP.

Again not compared to other classes. That’s the point of the complaints it always has been the engineer is low on dps, is second on versatility, it’s cannot tank as well at the other classes, it cannot heal as well as the other classes, so exactly what is left what exactly makes this class shine? Nothing. It’s just an afterthought and that’s the problem. and it seriously shows in every aspect of the game.
Here’s a class that doesn’t follow basic physics that doesn’t shine any particular section of combat and because of that it’s often discriminated against in dungeons and forced to take extraordinary measures to be able to do the most basic things when in fact, if you look at the class from a common sense standpoint, it shouldn’t struggle at all, it has the most militant of weapons so it should have the best dps out of any of the classes, it has the closest thing to science that any game like this can come to in regards to elixirs so it should shine at healing and certainly should never have to deal with randomness that makes absolutely no sense. (it would be like asking a RL marine to use a bandage and have a random effect which may or may not heal the person)
It’s just too wonky and too chaotic, and no I’m not saying it’s easy to balance but surely they can put more people on it to actually make an effort because they really haven’t made any effort from where I’m sitting.
Colin Johanson has mentioned his Engineer multiple times.
I honestly think he plays that just to see what’s going on with the class or a second to his main, a warrior.
