I am trying to come up with a build that incorporates the FT with solid dps, but at the same time allows for solid defense.

This looks like a good build.

You will, however, lose a large portion of your damage by not taking Deadly Mixture.

A DPS build with the FT undeniably needs Incendiary Powder.
If you are taking the Berserker’s Amulet, I recommend the Solidier or Rabid Jewel for added protection.

Also, I would take a different utility from Elixir B because you will get it at 75% for free, and you could use some get-a-way juice like Slick Shoes or Rocket Boots. Utility Goggles would be awesome as well for fury up time.

If you took Goggles, take a soldier ammy with rampager jewel.

One more thing, it will be difficult to juggle your elixir cooldowns if you keep two of them because you will also be using them for cleansing, and they may not always be there when you need them. In fact, I would be more apt to take Fast Acting Elixirs or Potent Elixirs than Cleansing Formula 409.

It seems as though you intend to spend more time in rifle than in FT, which is good, but if you are doing this, then Fireforged Trigger should be swapped out for 10% rifle damage as well (in addition to ignoring my advice about Deadly Mixture).

I have come to see the 0/30/10/20/0 base template with 10 points to put wherever to be a solid baseline for a very versatile set of FT functionality. DPS, Bunker, Support, etc.

Interesting protection build… I would suggest Deadly Mixture in Elixirs, and med kit so you have some more access to swiftness and replace the condition removal.

An option I have been looking at in replacing cleaning 409 for deadly mixtures, is replacing elixir B with elixir C, so that I still have a wealth of condition removals at my disposal. Med Kit would then replace the healing elixir for the added swiftness and fury.
