I am currently running this http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fcEQFAUl0piYnvy5F1LJyoCdGoC6lIF5Xl95Bb1WQIA;TIADKOUA and absolutely love it for damage, mobility and survivability. I really want to love pistols in WvW, but I really don’t see how they can compete with nades/rifle. Has anyone managed to put a build together that even comes close?

Apologies for the bad link message, it seems to work when you cut and paste.

The rifle wouldn’t be necessary, I just.. like it.

Grenades, though, are straight-up more effective for a wall siege/defense than anything else I can think of. The mortar would be actually-effective if it didn’t require a straight line of sight(Which it shouldn’t, as it’s.. a MORTAR.. and that’s kind of the point of mortars)

Charrzooka is also pretty useful, but I hesitate to recommend racial abilities, since not everyone selected the obviously superior species :P

Edit: This is my WvWvW build http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcIQFAUl0piY3yynFsNJyoCdGIF6lfJqQl95hc1WQIA;ToAg0CnoSykkIJbSukkJNG5MC

Pistol doesn’t really offer anything great for WvW. but shield has its place.

Elixir gun also probably comes in #2 in usefulness. Super elixir is good in lords rooms, on rams, etc.

I run P/S with a defensive build and condition damage. Everyone thinks they are going to walk all over the poor little Asura Engineer, and flail at me uselessly while my bloodthirsty friends cut them to ribbons. I’m not a hardcore gamer, so this setup keeps me from having to furiously spam attacks and ground target.

I do use grenades, mortar and radiation field when assaulting and defending keeps.

I run pistol/shields. I do keep grenades though nothing like them for clearing walls or destroying siege equipment. I will also drop a net turret if I thief is near because it can net them before they appear on my screen. I constantly switch between rocket boots and elixir stun breaker (cont remember which one – but the one that shrinks you). And of course a will placed supply drop is the cherry on top.

I run with a Rifle and Flamethrower/Elixir boon stacking build. With my trait and rune setup, I’m able to maintain permanent fury, swiftness, retaliation, and about 12 stacks of might.

The flamethrower is great for charging into and pushing back larger groups so long as you have some backup. The 200 toughness increase with Juggernaut makes a lot of difference and adds to your survivability. The AoE of the FT skills spreads the damage around effectively and can be used through gates on offense and defense. Between Air Blast and Overcharged Shot, I always have an interrupt ready when I need it most.

The only disadvantages I’ve found in my build so far is lack of 1200 range outside of my rifle auto attack (I have increased range traited for that), but I think the importance of long range is largely overrated unless you get involved in a lot of sieges. Also, be wary of retaliation when spamming FT throw gates. It will kill you in 3 full flame jets if you aren’t careful.
