Q:
Anyone make Gadgeteer work?
I tried some in PvP, thats what i ended up with:

When it comes to gadgeteer, i think synaptic overload + gadgeteer + battering ram is the obvious combination. Ram and burst him with fury, might and quickness. Rest is up to your choice, but i recommend knockback on turret explo so you got another trigger whenever your ram misses.
I know you asked for PvE, but i dont think gadgeteer has other big uses outside of this combination. Worked well so far, but i prefer other builds.
For PvE?
Nope, for me it shared the same outcome as the rest of the new grandmasters. Useless.
I’ve been using a 6/2/0/0/6 static discharge build in wvw. Throw mine/Tool Kit/Goggles with Synaptic and Gadgeteer as the grandmaster traits. Gadgeteer+goggles makes the spike stronger. Throw mine + gadgeteer + synaptic gives aegis and quickness which helps land stomps.
This is the best use I’ve found for gadgeteer. However, I think the typical explosives based builds are better for pve.
Ive found that my rotation with SD builds seem to flesh out to superior DPS in PVE in the past. I can see how a lot of people prefer explosives but for me, throw wrench+ram+rifel + explode rifle + ram + rifle skills / repeat… was not just burst but also consistent damage period.
I was hoping now that the dev have taken a second look at the clearly lackluster Tools grandmasters, it could be used to effect. I suppose not.
The aegis you gain off of throw mine is pretty nice. The skill is also a pretty low cool down knockback interupt.
The tool belt skill can rip up to 5 boons as well, also on a very low cool down.
I played around with it for awhile… and did like it in PvP. It did feel painful to be taking a grand to only really gain 1 aegis every 18s.
I was using rifle turret + throw mine + tool kit… with SD + throw turrets + gadgateer. Then making sure to have knockback on turret explosions.
Its perhaps not the most optimal pvp setup… but it is fun. Using tool kit pull + Mine field to rip boons…. then throw mine to grab an aegis + knock back. Rifle turret just becomes about Surpirse shot and the SD….. when SS is on cool down I would throw the turret at people when the cool down on SS was at 2-3s… then Explode it right away knocking them back… and using SS right after. It makes for a nice SD burst.
Like I say not the most optimal but all the knock backs where fun and the aegis did seem to work well when timed with binds and knockbacks. 1v1 I wasn’t taking much dmg at all if I timed things right… and it was pretty good at disrupting small 2 man teams.
One other thing I found… I was using rifle for awhile with intelligence runes on it in combo. It was sort of nice to throw the mine and knock someone down. While in tool kit… then swapping to rifle to proc the runes… and jumpshot blunderbuss in there face. Often the aegis would save be from there interupt attempt.

Hello frands! Vee Wee here #1 Engi and world first rank 80!
Gadgeteer is an ok trait I suppose if it were Master Tier! The problem with Gadgeteer is that it buffs utilities that aren’t really that good! Gadgets! The only thing I can think of where it might work is a Rifle SD build and that build is pretty sub par! Even then I’d take Power Wrench over Gadgeteer any day!

I Like the trait but it needs to be combined with the 20% reduced cd and be moved to master tier then a new grandmaster needs be made that allows crits to decrease our utility belt cds just my two centaurs
if it’s PvE we’re talking the only skill that’s amazing would be Utility Goggles. 5 Stacks of might and seconds of Fury = Best skill in the Gadget set.
