Are they going to buff rifle on Engineer?

Really though it just needs a little more oomph in damage on the skills. Maybe some travel time on things. It should make itself the predominant power damage weapon, which just isn’t really the case right now (especially with Jump Shot not working with quickness).
That’s true. Maybe they could make the 2 skill have a second skill that activates and pulls the net back. And buff the damage on 4.

imo the only place i find hammer better than rifle is in pvp and maybe wvw roaming, as far as power goes. Rifle has not been reworked for a long time, i doubt it will be either, but more importantly what game mode are you referring to?
i like using my hammer in open world pve/pvp but thats about it, i’d rather go p/p condi for fractals/dungeons(raids although i havent raided since december). Hammer would be better for me if scrapper traitline was better, and buffed dps more, because i really find scrapper traitline lackluster and has a bunch of useless traits/traits the really no one would use.

The meta seems to favor hammer in both pve and pvp. And it’s a shame, really, because there’s not many viable options for rifle in general at the moment in the game.
What I’d like to see Anet do, is rework some of the rifle skills. As it stands it’s really just another melee range power weapon, just like the hammer. Maybe they could make it more effective at 1200? Perhaps a buff to its autoattack, and maybe a rework to 1-2 of its skills. Maybe at least then it would have its niche.
Everone agrees with the rifle needs some buffs, everyone hopes for the rifle getting some buffs, noone believes it will actually happen – cuz ANet clearly hates Engis … or at least they have no clue what to do with us.

Evade frames on jump shot.
Unblockable overcharge shot.
Rifle would probably be viable again without being over the top
Unblockable overcharged shot would be very good, blocks are one of the reasons s/f fresh air counters rifle so much. Then they won’t kitten on our attacks with their blocks, only with their unlimited projectile destroying skills and invulnerability
I hope they nerf hammer instead, along with all the other elite specs.

if i can make any changes to rifle, i’d change skill 3 and giving it use, removing the bleeds, and increasing flat damage while also adding something. I like the idea of adding unblockable and maybe another CC like stun or daze or a teleport to target type of thing much like guardian sword skill 2.
i also want to change skill 5(jump shot) It’s also a bit lackluster and maybe needs increase in damage and adds evade for 2 sec. Its a long cd anyway so it won’t be OP.
I’m ok with skill 1,2 and 4….if anything just make all of their range to 1200, as it doesn’t make sense why they are all different.

I love Rifle, but compared to Hammer it’s sub-par. I would LOVE for Anet to do a rework on skills 3 and 4. And give it more range, I mean a rifle should go further than a LB…I’d be happy with 1200 though.

I think they should do the full rework for engi’s shield. I used to love shield in the past. They should make it viable again in all aspect of the game.
Shield has already been reworked if anything I’d say they should make skill 5 more useful but that’s it, 4 is already in a good spot.

shield only needs a bit CD reduction, rifle is the one that needs love, it is too slow and predictable. With all the blindness and blocks everyone got now it is frustrating to play rifle
Even with heavily reduced CD on shield, I would never ever use it with those skills. For condi pistol will always be better, power you lose too much weapon damage and it’s basicly a weaker version of the hammer :/ Shield needs more than CDR.

With power creep that is happening these days taking pistol over shield is a muss anyway… Unless ANet is going to completly rework shield, next to reducing cooldowns they need to give us an one-handed power weapon to pair with it.
For rifle, first thing I’d suggest is give it evade on Jump Shot to somehow match it to the 3-seconds-evade hammer skill, also make autoattack’s damage higher (or shoot faster, so we have a machine gun when quickness is present ) to compensate lack of purely defence abilities.
I think shield is ok as a standalone weapon. But our main hand pistol is so incredibly weak that shield isnt even worth consideration.
One handed power weapon is a must… It doesn’t have to be ranged weapon either.

Rocket Charge is not a 3s evade, it’s a 1s evade with a 2s+ animation that can’t be canceled… it’s pretty clunky and weird with it’s own drawbacks.

problem of rifle is projectil hates ….
if only engis would get dagger next expansion as a main hand, and make it a power 1 handed weapon for engis…..i would totally use it with my shield.

It can be cancelled by entering a kit and pressing weapon swap. I do wish they’d make skill cancelling more uniform, as right now it seems to come down to just remembering which skills can and can’t be cancelled in which ways.
Rather than an evade on Jump Shot, I’d like to see it simply execute faster. I’d be interested in seeing the rifle trait changed to simply halve the recharge of Jump Shot as well. That would turn the rifle into a strong mobility option as well as giving it a good damage boost in PvE.
To make it actually good in PvP though you’d have to buff it up to the levels of power creep elite spec stuff is at, but I’d much rather see the power creep brought down than the rest of our stuff brought up.
I like it Sins, and thanks for the tip (should have known, but then again the only time I really run hammer scrapper I generally use the second leap finisher or the movement effect, WvW).
Same. I liked rifle back before the HoT power creep. Since then, there is so much projectile hate and the other options are SO much better, you’re at a serious disadvantage playing rifle.
Part of the problem is that rifle requires you to risk a lot. Its damage skills are short-range and provide no defensive options.
- Jump Shot is a death sentence if you don’t have stability or your opponent has cc’s up. The damage is not good considering the risk you take to use it.
- Overcharged shot is even more of a death sentence if your opponent has any kind of defense up, but especially reflect (and reflect is everywhere now).
- Net shot doesn’t do enough (2s immob? Druids immob for like 10s+ at longer range)
- Blunderbuss is okay, but needs more damage up close.
- Autoattack is good, but lacks damage
In general:
- Rifle attacks are mitigated by all defense (protection, blind, weakness, reflect, projectile nullification, block, stability)
- Other weapons and classes (especially HoT powercreep) outperform it now.

Autoattack isn’t good at all, it’s hard to remove blindness if you don’t have any condi removal since the attack is so godkitten slow… and of course lacks damage.
I’ve been getting 3,7k – 4,2k hits from revanent hammer autoattack, just a few moments ago (not to mention 11k CoR). ANet, please.
