Armor. Ok what the ......
This is not the first time I’ve encountered people on Engineer complaining about the lack of appealing Leather items, but the first time I’ve ever heard someone ragequitting over it.
While I do agree that there are a lack on interesting armors, you also have to remember there are around 400 dyes to choose from. Some pieces just look plain awful until you dye them.
Other than that, Leather is supposed to be the more “realistic” of the armors. While some Heavy and Light armor does look awesome, I just don’t feel like I would run into a battle with a literal building on my shoulder or enough clothing to make Jenna Jameson smirk.
You should look at the Dredge armor, as it looks like the most “Engineery” leather there is.
The armor mentioned above is this one: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Norn_Female_Furnace_Reward_Armor_Medium.png
Personally i would love to have a full set of this: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Norn_Female_Arcon_Armor_of_Dwayna_Medium_with_helm.png
“practical” and “utilitarian” are the keywords for armor that would fit an Engineer. They are not going to lug around Iron-Man Mk1 style steampunk suits, nor go to battle in a leather speedo. So i think the 2nd armor i just linked is perfectly fitting for an Engineer in this setting. It could use a pistol, wrench or pouch here and there though.
Mind you, this is all just my opinion.
EDIT: I do agree that most medium armors seem to be tailor made for the traditional ranger/thief classes and very little to no medium armors with added pistols, pouches, grenades, etc.
TIP: Get that backpack when you start a character and transmute that puppy with the highest backplate you can find to keep that engineer-look as high as possible

Seeing that SE armor was the first and only thing that’s made me regret my decision to roll a charr. It looks so good on everyone else but so outrageously terrible on a charr.
Oh well, my search for the perfect duster/hat combo continues.
I suspect its simply down to whether or not you are Charr.
With charr: Armour looks bad.
With Humans/Sylvari/Norn: Armour looks good
With Asura: Armour looks weird
I am really happy with my armour for example.
Two words:
Cultural Armor.
i want a BATMAN SUIT for my charr
I find the opposite problem personally, I have to many armour sets I love the look of, though i’m a Sylvari on my Engi (plant with a flamethrower <3) and mix in the cultural stuff whenever I can.
As for weapons, the only time I really look at my weapons is when i’m not in combat, and if i’m not in combat, kits aren’t hiding it so I can bask in the glory of <insert rifle here> looking awesome.
Yeah, i found most medium armour doesn’t really suit the engineer. That is until i put on my eagle eye goggles which just made almost any style fit my engineer.
I’m aiming for Sorrow’s Embrace armor, it reminds me of Fallout, kinda. Also fits pretty much engineer, working man’s outfit
Funny, I was going for the wasterlander look from fallout 3 and mixed the arcon and SE armor. The pants are from AC.
Hmm not bad. But ppl mostly posted all the good ones for Enginer. Thats almost all. I found 3-4 more that is good, but if it would be the only issue i have, i would stay Engi for sure, since the PvP is so extremely fun i have hard to not to play it.
But Anytime i play it i have this strange feeling keep growing and realize, i wont stand by and see others have 4-5 tipe of weapons with totally mind blowing looks, when i have basically 3 (i only use 1 actually).
Not only that, but kit’s cant change weapon skins, and more importantly they equipp a backpack and that makes whe whole Hero totally piace of …..k i think i stop this now, dont even want to think abaut this.
Anyhow+ 1 for all posts

Reminds me more of

Lots of fallout inspired engineers here, my aim was to go for a desert combat ranger look with the SE helmet, very similiar to what Sorrow linked.
I really tired of the pimp/pirate/musketeer armor themes. Out of all the end game medium armor I only like ONE set. Anet really needs to add some variety to medium armor sets. I as a medium armor user shouldn’t be drooling at light and heavy armor, wishing I had those sets instead of the fugly medium ones.
Some class specific armor would be nice. Engineer shouldn’t look like rogues and rangers. Its just wrong.

What chestpiece is that?
Cash shop medium armour one.
My asura engineer doesn’t look bad. Alot of it is finding dyes that match the appearance you want. Most of the gear I’m wearing at level 80 is actually low level gear you encounter early on in the game. It actually fit my engineer pretty well with the backpack as an “adventurer type”
I agree that the cultural armor looks awsome for ausura. Thats what im savung uo for.
Same asura need to go for cultural…its the only gear that really seems designed for them to work on an asura AND look like an engineer “sorta futuristic over steampunk though”
SE and COE gear looks good on em “since they’re both asuraish” cept SE helmet looks stupid imo on asura as most helmets do. COE would but it looks like a rogue :P
Witch Hunter.
Demon Hunter.
Vampire Hunter.
Bounty Hunter.
My munitions & I hunt it all! And I look like a bad mother*&^%er doing it.

Engineers are short on stylish armor, unless they want to look like a ranger, as many of you I see went with.
Charr Engineer’s have even less options, and the charr medium cultural armor is UGLY. worst armor in the game… well maybe the light charr armor is worse.
Charr Heavy armor looks awesome tho.

Im not really understanding how a Trenchcoat constitutes to looking like a Ranger…besides the GW1 Gem-Shop skin. I wouldn’t even call the Gem-Shop skin a Trench, I’d call it some kind of Shawl / Robe thing…
When you choose the Engineer class, its promo armor is….a Trenchcoat….whereas the Rangers are mostly Tunics. But if you look at the Medium Armor classes (Thieves, Rangers and Engineers), nothing really screams for more than Tunics and Trenches. Now I’ll agree there are a bit too many Trenches…however, there are some REALLY nice Tunics available at early levels. I had one, it had the tribal embroidery in it, pretty nifty. “Marksmans Tunic” I think it was.

its not the trenchcoat, trenchcoats are one of the few things that actually looks good on a charr. And I think an steam punk styled engineer like we have would have a trenchcoat to hide/store all his gadgets.
its the entire outfit of leather armor that , like you said, looks like Witch hunter/Demon hunter/Vampaire hunter/Bounty Hunter.
To me thats the kind of stuff I expect the ranger to look like.
Currently im using the same armor you have in your pics, only I have my headgear the eye piece so it has a more engineer feel to it.
If there was some armor styles that had more metal in it I think it would look more engineer-ish.
I have that Eyepiece skin too, “Noblemans Monacle” or something like that. Got that in the bank. Used it until I got the hat (not a fan of the Feather though, looking foward to getting the Flat-Brim).
I’ll agree that the Engineer should have a bit more metal / gear / cog-inspired armors, but with the personal feel and opportunity to customize your armor color / appearance, rather than looking like the same shlub at end-game, you’ll have this debate until the end of time.
Im sure as more content is added, there’ll be more skins to come out.
Quick Story: I played a great many MMOs in the last 8 or-so years, and one of the most fun classes I had played in any of them, was the WAR Witch Hunter. I stopped playing WAR for obvious reasons, and always wanted an opportunity to AT LEAST bring back the appearance of my beloved Witch Hunter in some form or another in whichever game I eventually called home. Fast Forward to now, I can duplicate the appearance of the Witch Hunter in GW2, and the class I chose could even fit the appearance a bit for Lore / RP purposes (not that I RP at all), and I am unbelieveably stoked about that.
Now if I could just get a Pipe and a taller hat, I’d be set. I already have the epic mustache.

I have to agree with the sentiment that hardly any of our armor fits the steam punk, tinker theme of the class.
The lvl 45 crafted Leather armour is probably the first Engineer looking armour ive seen so far in the game, the noble armour at 35 sorta loks ok but its not perfect(has a eyepatch/monacle which is about it really), hopefully in time anet will tweak the crafting so every tier has armour craftable that looks unique for each class.
I’ve been using gear looking like rouge set (lv 80 rare), but what I bought had the same look, was lower level and was green. Item icons had dark green background, like for this coat:
http://www.gw2db.com/items/13271-berserkers-rogue-coat-of-the-centaur
It was looking pretty decently, gentle coat, I could dye it as classic leather and put purple shirt (color of our profession). Pants were looking pretty nice dyed as iron, kinda like old-style jeans. The only problem was helmet, as leather pieces are mostly stupid masks. I tried monocle below, but was colliding with my hair too much, so I’ve decided to hide the helmet forever
http://www.gw2db.com/items/48691-hearty-leather-mask
I agree that GW2 lack good looking medium armors especially for the engineers. I’d love to see more steampunk style armors in the future. Since I was not satisfied with our current sets of armors, I decided to mix them to make my own unique look.
I guess my Engineer looks like a hybrid Thief/Guardian
BTW what armor set is that Ranger wearing in the 2nd and 3rd screenies?
The Cathedral gear in Orr for Karma looks great on every race methinks, so bulky and leathery, big satchels, definetly going to use it.
Hi,
I think the armor i have looks good. Is it an engineer look? Well i dunno, but its a stylish leather half-coat. Do I look like a thief? Maybe…but by using the blue color and red stripes on the pants i tried to create a more uniform-look….
I wear a mask due to not happy with the toon face and I’m exstremly vain….
the only armor I can feel being engineer is asura cultural armor tier2. All others are too ranger or too thief for me. Its very weird that we have same type of armor with those professions
Other than the “Rugged” set (stuff from character class selection/Orr Karma stuff) I’ve only really found one set that has the engineer look imo. Crafted Leather armor set.
I’ll keep using this until I can afford the Orr stuff.
You seem to be talking about running away.”

I am not a fan of Medium armor. I want something less than a trench coat that looks great. Right now I where noble armor with pant I have no clue where I got them commando pants (basically pants with lower leg chaps) I wish I knew where I got them

If you are a human female the duelist set looks awesome and is not a trenchcoat.
Sure, doesn’t leave much to the imagination but fits my glass cannon nade spec perfectly. It also goes along surprisingly well with the elixer gun.
WvW Captain – Horde of Miscreations, Borlis Pass Alliance
Here’s my engineer style:
Head: Nobleman’s Monocle
Shoulders: Orr Karma set
Chest: Guild Armor
Gloves: Orr Karma set
Legs: Nobleman’s Leggings
Feet: Nobleman’s Boots
Tryggon Gathol – [RvR] – lvl 80 Warrior – IoJ
Sechnal – [RvR] – lvl 80 Ranger – IoJ
I like the Arah Karma set dyed midnight blue, shoulders are gaudy enough to make you stand out a bit. Easier to get than dungeon sets imo.
I’m planning to mix the flame legion armor with the SE helm, I think it gives a really nice look.
I’d use the SE set but the chest looks really big and bulky on the human male. It triples the width of my character and makes my weapons clip horribly.
But I love the steampunk look of it. I kind of regret we do not have many steampunk sets.
honestly, i dont even use a whole set of armor, i have bits from here and there, thats one thing i love about GW is that you can make different armors and get creative with it, and the introduction of transmog only makes that even more concrete, im using a combination of different armors and then i colored them to the gloves, because of the fire from the CoF set
