Ascended Kits
I’ll post what I did elsewhere….
So unless they hid this damage upgrade, its not actually there.
I did a simple test. I have an assassin’s ascended pistol (67 power) and a clerics exotic pistol (64 power). On the GW2 wiki, the grenade damage page says it does 107 damage with .33 scaling, not updated since February.
So I got naked and untraited and grenade damage displayed 107. I equipped the ascended weapon, went to 115 damage. then I equipped the exotic clerics weapon, and it stayed at 115. Theres supposed to be a 5% difference between the 2 and there isn’t. I tried it again with full gear on to compare and the results are the same. 215 grenade damage for both.
Back in November when they originally raised the kit damage the tooltip numbers did change. With this patch, theres no numbers change. So unless they snuck the modifier outside of the tooltip, kit damage did not get buffed.
They’re terrible at tooltips. Turrets have been displaying power scaling that doesn’t exist for months now – it only becomes clear that it’s nonexistent when you see them in action.
Anymras, they removed the attack stat from the stats page (used to be right next to power), so we really have no good way of verifying. The tooltips leave us with an impression that its not scaling properly. Theres no good way to test this with the dummies missing in LA.
I’ve been testing things that I’d normally test on the target dummies in LA on the golems in Heart of the Mists; if nobody else is running up and killing them while you’re testing, it’s fairly similar, though you do have to finish them off or wait for them to deaggro before you can move on to testing the next thing.

Problem is you can’t test Ascended or Legendary weapons in the Mists.
Oh, that’s annoying. Dolyaks in Frostgorge Sound, then, might work.
I haven’t been there in ages, but aren’t there dummies in the Grove? Near the Vigil camp? I can’t check now, but will later if no one gets to it before I do.
I tested it myself and yes, ascended weapons are causing kits to deal 5% more damage than exotic. It’s annoying that we can’t see how much weapon power is going into the kits but I tested in Southsun against a wind rider using the elixir gun.
Regular shots using a level 80 exotic rifle with 128 power and 50 power from traits (178 power) was dealing at most 274 damage (I shot a bunch of times and recorded the max damage shot with no might or vulnerability).
Regular shots using a level 80 ascended rifle with 188 power and 0 power from traits (188 power) was dealing at most 291 damage.
So with the ascended rifle equipped I had 10 higher total power, but at level 80 that wouldn’t account for 17 more damage per hit. 5% of 274 is ~13.5 more damage per shot and I observed just a little bit more than that.
I was wondering about this as well. Tooltip damage didn’t change as much as it should, and testing on an enemy was not easy due to random damage range. It would be nice if we could get an official answer, this is bugging me too much.
Tooltip scaling appears to to be bugged – displayed damage values are changing based on power stat, but not on weapon rarity or weapon strength.
However kit power damage does appear to be scaling with weapon strength, at least for bombkit auto (haven’t tested anything else). I’ve done a few short tests vs lvl 80 risen putrifiers in orr below, tested for 50 attacks or so each which is enough to get a general picture:
Naked character, no traits or buffs etc, Bombkit autoattack damage:
No weapon equipped:
Damage range 205-224 (407 shown in tooltip)
Level 1 blue krytan rifle equipped (wep strength 151-185):
Damage range 294-343(407 shown in tooltip)
Level 70 exotic rifle (wep strength 834-1019)
Damage range 386-424 (407 tooltip)
Level 80 exotic rifle (wep strength 986-1205):
Damage range 470-502
For a direct comparison between an 80 exotic and ascended rifle, I ensured that I had the same power bonus from both both via some trinket mixing(total character power 1095 for these tests), as I couldn’t be bothered crafting an ascended rifle without a power stat bonus (previous tests were done with weapons without a power bonus):
Level 80 exotic rifle (wep strength 986-1205)
Damage range 470-502 (486 tooltip due to extra power)
Level 80 ascended rifle (wep strength 1035-1265)
Damage range 487-586 (486 tooltip due to extra power)
I haven’t been able to tell whether there’s any damage difference between a p/s and rifle setup so far due to variance in damage – if there is a difference it seems likely to be small.
