Guild Wars 2

So, since I’ve tried doing a warrior together with my friend’s engineer – and after being downed WAY more frequently than him and learning that warrior is basically the jack of all trades but master of none – I would like some advice.
Right now we are early in the game and i am sorely tempted to level something that would complement him better, since we play those two characters exclusively together.

I haven’t found any such topic just yet here, so I’m asking outright. Are there any classes that would go well with an engineer? He seems to be sticking to rifles right now, but could probably be persuaded to change his loadout based on what people say here. I’m mostly looking to hear if there are better choices than a warrior, since the class doesn’t seem to click with me. My D/D elementalist can destroy enemies and is MUCH more survivable, whilst my warrior plinks away at mobs and often chain-downs.

Depends what build you friend runs, but a profession that utilizes a lot of finishers usually compliments an engineer well. We have the ability to put quite a few fields down and depending on what finisher you use it can create some excellent combos. My fiance plays a ranger and the projectile finishers coupled with my fields has always proved to be fun and powerful.

If anything, play a profession that you find most enjoyable. You’ll make it work out in the end no matter what either of you play. Just make sure you’re playing the profession because it’s fun, not because it couples well with an Engineer.

Duo with a dual axe/bow warrior. We destroy anything in our path. I’m running a bomber man spec. Round up the mobs and have the warrior aoe in the combo field.

i like SB thief as a combo finisher… but the only combo field it has access to that engi doesnt is dark
SD ele has quite a few finishers… but again only access to one combo field
staff ele has can have two finishers (and a ton of fields – meaning the engi could be the finisher)

- also warr is the master of hitting things and watching them die… GS+knights gear mows down pretty much everything

Warrior is what I’m trying, dual axe actually. Problem is, my survivability is near zero. 3+ mobs usually mean I get downed hard and fast, especially when dealing with ascalonian ghosts. We only just hit 20 mind you. Running for great justice, banner of defense, and signet of the dolyak, speccing into toughness to take down the incoming damage some. But to no avail. It feels like my D/D elementalist can waltz right on through 4+ mobs and live, whilst my warrior chips a bit at their HP and then flops over. Maybe I just need more traits to be viable, but what I’ve seen in the warrior forums wasn’t too encouraging

I gotta friend of mine I end up teaming with more regularly then not. Maybe it has quite a bit to do with the team cohesion we have, but my engi + anything he plays is a really good combo. Most of the time its my engi + his ele. I noticed this in almost every situation but in dungeons, that our combined tactical makeup seems to compliment each other quite well between dps AOE, heal AOE, and point defense.

If your friend plays like I do, Rifle, 2 turrets and land mines, he will place 0 combo fields for you. (not that they seem very impressive any way) and tbh, the useful engi skills dont place combo fields, imo.

I would suggest a ranged fighter, but it greatly depends on your 2 play styles. if your friend is like me, again rifle, 2 turrets and land mines, the enemy wont beable to get to you due to the immobilized and knockbacks he will be dishing out.
Maybe try an elem, there pretty squishy on there own but with an engi keeping things at bay you might have fun with the class.

I have a D/D sylvari elementalist who pretty much destroys PvE stuff, very fun. Was looking for another class, but I guess we will see what I do. Tempted to use a guardian to give us more survivability, but it’s a tough decision. We might try actual combo field play though.
