I know Charr’s are the best lorewise, but aesthetically which race do you think is the best with engineers? Both with clothing and skill animations

I really like Charr aesthetically for engineer. However, I am also a huge fan of Jennifer Hale, so my main Engineer is a salad. Not the best looking Engineer out there, but the voice acting is my jam so whatever.

Still…I just started leveling another one – Charr this time.

charr…cause they sorta invented the whole engi class thing…armor quality on the other hand…

I think most of the races bring something unique to the table, because there aren’t many armor options if you are picky about it.
My engineer is asura, however I wouldnt mind leveling a secound engineer.
Was actually thinking charr or sylvari.

Charr: For both asthetics and Lore, Charr wins. Even their racial skills are basically just more Engineer skills, and even their cultural weapons are the most Engineer-fitting weapons. (Though yes, any race can use the Weapons, and their cultural medium armor is more Ranger-y, imo)

Asura: On paper, they’re the obvious second choice for an engineer, but their own technology aesthetic clashes pretty hard with the engineer aesthetic. It’s a shame the kits can’t be skinned to something more techno-magic like. I’m expecting a future “Scientist” elite spec that uses some more Asura-like tech one day though.

Sylvari: Scarlet. ‘nuff said. Ignoring her, there’s a bit of a visual juxtaposition with flame-thrower wielding plant-people, but engineer actually fits them well lore-wise, with most Sylvari tending to be curious and eager learners.

Human: Tyrian humans are mostly medieval in their tech, but you may have noticed something: The human bandits and pirates are mostly engineers (With some Thieves and a few oddball classes mixed in, but tons of engies) Just play almost any path on CM. If you stick mainly to grenades, bomb kit, and flamethrower you’ll have a pirate or bandit raider that fits right in with the NPC ones. Seeing as almost every viable engineer build uses at least one of those (and some use all) that’s not too hard to do.

Norn’s probably the least fitting engie race, but hey, you can still make it work. I can see a Norn wanting to create his legend via creating the greatest machine ever conceived.

Bonus answer:
Dredge. Seeing as they’re a close second to Charr in terms of purely industrial tech.

Asura. We were the only race that looked kitten good with the hobosacks. I actually wish they were a switchable setting so I could have it back on my Engy.

But yeah… Asura engy with Super Shield and Quip. It’s pretty much love.

Charr in my opinion, just the lore and the creations they make just fit the Engineer. (You can see some of their tankies/helicopters in Orr or Silverwastes).
Second would be Asura, since they are intelligent and so on(I don’t have many Asuras sadly..)
Third, the usual Human. Self explanatory.
Fourth is lastly Norn, but lore-wise maybe not very fitting… Still it is fun to play as a giant Norn throwing itsy bitsy grenades.

i have a norn, charr & a tree man. i love all three of them.

Charr if you like big hulking furry beasts with technological toys.

Asura if you like small fast blip blop creatures that bamboozel their enemies.

I’ve gone for Asura because I just love their animations.

Asura is the master race for sure. But if we are talking pure looks got to say human. Maybe norn because of the new mortar animation .

Feels like all the armor in this game is made on human models then just shrunk/ stretched for everyone else..

I guess kinda proof? I mained an asura since launch. I rolled a second engi (human) transfered all gear from asura to human kept the same look and color scheme . My human actually gets so compliments! My asura could barely got a group… let alone a random"sick armor" whisper (catcall )

I use a human with a mix of Magiteck and Scarlet armor with the Mystic or the Inquest weapons. Asura are too darn small to really appreciate the cool factor of the aesthetic imo. There’s also the fact that human armor tends to have much less clipping and is just better modeled on average. Everyone else is going for steampunk looking hammers while I’ll just be using mystic/inquest. It’s not a super original look but it looks good and I actually like trench coats.

I do kinda regret not making a Charr sometimes especially since some of the racial skills are great for a SD Engi. That being said, the tail and horn clipping can be really annoying and obvious. Only a handful of armors actually look cool on Charr imo.

Personally, I have a Sylvari fun-time character who looks like he was set on fire and burnt until he was mostly dead bark. It’s a very fun look for his dual pistols/flamethrower juggernaut build. He’s PVE only, but thematically a very fun commando who has nothing left to lose. I’d like to see racial elites get a toolbelt skill just for his awesome plant turret elite.

My other engie is a human who has an almost MacGuyver kind of vibe from his build full of gadgets, gizmos, and explosions. He has so much burst healing that I basically can’t die in PVE. With three water fields, one of at every other field other than lightning, and seven blast finishers, he makes for a very fun sort of support/survivalist. Human racials tend to be kind of bland (other than Hounds), but their outfits look great, and you can’t help but be amused at your dude hefting a wrench while he yells “Urge to kill rising!”

Mine is Asura.
I like their animations, how medium gear looks on them
and it fits with them with all their robot stuff and their techno looking world.

Actually most asura dont even understand how a combustion engine in a charr tank or a clockwork in a turret works…what doesnt make em stupid of course by all means. It in fact baffles many asura that it even works in the first place. Their tech is magitech rather then what the engineer class uses. Turrets, flamethrowers, mines and other explosives, bullets ,elixirs and other gadgets where developed by charr and charr are also the inventors or pioneers of most of the non magical technology arround. Tanks, airships, helicopters, submarines, mortars and other on explosives based siege weapons, printing presses, grammophones (yea also they are in the game, check ascalon´s devourer breeding pit, you use em to distract fem-devourers from their nests to steal their eggs), firearms in general where refined and still are refined by them aswell. Meanwhile holograms, golems, hovering platforms, portals, the waypoint system and stuff are indeed to the greatest parts magical…in a way that makes it look like sci fi technology. The closest engineer technology that got used in game so far that does involve asuran magitech would be the creations of scarlet that combined magic with technology like she combined weird alliances… and pact stuff of course, each race got their best mixed into those thingies and maybe the gyros of the scrapper.. but then again the spec is based on charr stuff too.. so really dunno where to put them, well time will tell. Given that it took the charr just 200 years to go from tribal to industrial i would say charr are the master race of engineering while asuras are clearly the masters of the arcane and magitech and they can do some crazy stuff with that…time travel, sentient walking pieces of rock (golems), tearing reality itself apart, instant teleporting and so much more.

Well.. but it boils down to personal taste and everybody makes his\her own story

If there was not clipping issues or weird scalling, we would see so much more Charrs…, I love charr engi, but endgame is fashion, and fashion on charr…. easily achieved… mehhh

Can I ask why people make more than one of each profession, I mean I suppose I could understand if you wanted to play another races story but I’ve read multiple posts where people claim to be levelling their 2nd 3rd of the same profession…why???

I picked Sylvari and made him look metallic lol it’s pretty cool. I wish Sylvaris were taller though

Tome of knowledge → very easy → try a new race for cosmetic purpose (and sometime size, Norn v Asura for example)

When I was making my engineer I had a hard time deciding on race until I played them. I settled on charr because I enjoy the animations the most and I like playing a fuzzball. I could do without all the trench coats though….

Charr > Human > Norn > Sylvari > Asura

Everything looks kittenty on Asura, since you just won’t notice any design efforts put into them.
