Hey guys,

I’m coming off of a long break. Originally I played ranger, but the engineer has appealed to me as of late. I’d like to get into some wvw. Mostly zerging because I still don’t feel comfortable enough with the class to roam.

I’ve been reading around and have gotten a few tips; however, most of the advise seems to lean towards the rifle. I would like to use pistol/sheild with kits, but can’t manage to hammer out a solid build myself. I usually just panic and start tossing ’nades into the crowd lol.

I’m sitting at around lvl 22 right now and steadily growing. Any advise and tips would be great. I’ve ready some pretty good general tips already, but would like some specifics.

If you tend to panic and toss any explosive thing you can find, I’d suggest using a Pistol for the AoE Auto attack, with Condition Specs and Survivability… I took this then leaned towards more of a Burst-type build, and you may do the same depending on your play style ;o

Start with Speedy Kits for WvW, swiftness is necessary at low levels or you’re gonna get caught and killed..

Your uplevel damage isn’t that good but you can still support a zerg quite well. I’d suggest Pistol/Shield with Healing Turret, Rocket Boots, Bomb Kit and Elixir Gun. This will give you a Water Field, Fire Field and Smoke Field with 5x blast finishers. Blast Shield, turret, BoB and EG4 > Rocket Boots for massive healing, invis or might stacks. EG has a lot of utility. Rocket Boots help you get into or out of bad situations quickly. Grab larger AOE explosion trait for fun zerg v zerg bomb battles and large Glue Bombs.

Gear Condition and Vitality to start and work towards Rabid or Dire gear at 80 with Grenade support.

If you like to help with Might stacking go for 2x Runes of Strength, Fire and Hoelbrak each.

Finally, nothing beats a good commander in Team Speak if your server or guild plays that way. You can help a zerg stay alive or deal some serious damage.

Your goal is to get to the zerg and stay with it for caps.

I’m going to piggy back onto this thread if you don’t mind…

Haven’t played in a few months. Is 30 points in Explosives still all most people do? I used them almost exclusively before and I got kinda tired of them. I like pistol/shield a lot.

Any significant changes in the past few months that opened up more builds?

I agree with both Blood and Arch 100% especially on the shield because it is awesome. But I just want to add, don’t get too attached to a build or armor set if you aren’t 100% sure its what you wanna go with. This advice is fantastic for what you wanna do so by all means listen to them, but take time to experiment and look at different builds because there are plenty of builds that work on engi for every different scenario but you just have to find the one that’s right for you.

To build off of Stillshade…when you do hit 80 and begin gearing up, grab a full set of rare gear for <2g and give a build a try. You can completely regear your armor in rares for very cheap and Engineer is a class that has a lot of build variety. So don’t feel pigeonholed into one thing or another.

Once you figure out your preferred playstyle in WvW, then you can amass your exotics without remorse.

this is the wvwvw build i used to use with massive success. though i used it for solo roaming, it will work for larger numbers.
