Builds for High level fractals?
I’ve been doing plenty of high end fractals for a bit. I run rifle, medkit, grenade kit, elixir gun, and flamethrower. Last patch’s removal of dual super elixirs was a bit of a heavy nerf, but it’s simply encouraged me to play a tad more cautiously. I run full berserker gear, and if I end up in the dredge fractal, I swap out flamethrower for Elixir U or somesuch, as the toss is a bit of a lifesaver. 30/10/0/0/30. You don’t just deal damage, you put out some rather heavy utility through long, repeated chills of freeze grenade, repeated roots to the point of obnoxiousness via net shot on an 8 second cooldown, and an interrupt on demand for non-boss mobs through overcharged, etcetera. I also swap out for bomb kit on the hand seals, for obvious reasons.
It’s very good to see other engi’s in high level fractals as well! I think for fractals I’ll start carrying several sets of gear with me for different occasions. whaddya think
So, I’ve decided to try out a build with Pistol/Shield, Elixir gun and Bomb kit. (20/0/30/20/0, I don’t like how KR works with multiple kits) I am a little nervous since it seems bomb kit relies on power while elixir gun and pistol focus on condition. I am in mostly apothecary gear for now, I will see how I feel about bomb kit after fractals tomorrow and possibly replace it or swap to cleric’s, soldier’s or Knight’s gear.
In either case I will post my results here tomorrow night! I am happy other engineers are doing fractals as well.
I just recently started doing fractals and have only reached lvl 7 so far, but i already did lvl18 with my guild.
I was acutally just thinking about opening a new thread with a similar topic on how to play engi in fractals.
I love being more of a supporter than just Damage dealer. Currently I run
10/30/0/20/10
Pistol/Shield, healing turret, elixir gun, supply grate. My other two utillites are changing almost every encounter to fit the enemy. Eventhough Elixir U’s toolbelt is prop my favorite one.
Concerning stats I am just starting to get my exotics so I’m a bit clueless on that part. Thinking rabid or maybe something with healing power but that doenst scale too good i supose.

I’d love this, or just seperate that “engineer builds” thread into PVE, WvW and PvP.
It’s horrible to go looking for PVE builds in that thread.
Just started fractals (up to 9) in full exotic zerker and 3 pieces of knights (not sure if i’ll keep it that way, i just wanted sorrows embrace looks). I play 10/30/0/0/30 static discharge rifle with tool kit, rifle turret, rocket boots (elixir U gets in there quite often as well).
I’m all up for good builds for fractals, I wondering if there are multi kit builds that are viable for high level fractals since I love the wide option of utility as my disposal.
Currently I’m on fractals lvl 26 and it get increasingly difficult stay alive. I don’t have much problems but depending on my team, it’s hard to say whether my build is good.
Atm I am using p/p with medkit, eg, ft and nades and I am finding it really good in providing cc, damage, healing, team support and survivabilty is good.
But I always use food, do many of you use food for fractals too?

I use food no matter what im doing.
Make zerk build with prolly survival trinkets, and change wrench/elixir gun for situation. Its support enough, and in hi-lvl pve you won’t really heal someone who doesn’t know what he’s doing so your best bet is more control.
Of course in dredge you change grens to bombs to run door.

Good points, most of that I already do, except for changing skills. I never really found myself changing skills for situations since I made this build to be viable in all situations. But for higher fractals, I think I will just do that.

im level 31 fractals on my engi with ~60 extra pristines (dont really care for further progress, running 26 and or 30 once a day was more than enough time in there and no motivation to go higher)
i run rampager armor + celestial trinkets
i could get more out of my runes, but i like centaur in wvw and wouldnt give that up just for fractals (example… condi duration runes)
build is 30/10/0/10/20, grenades primary focus, static discharge secondary
food: mf or ghost pepper popper + maintenance oil
other advice i can give for fractals:
carry both a rifle and p/s
elixir r
toolkit pull once in a while
find a guardian to run with and the rest of your party comp doesnt matter
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions
Personal lvl 48 here :-)
I run FotM solely with my engi – heavy condition damage build:

The stats are not purely Rabid, I mixed it with it with some power + vitality + crit. dmg stats as well. Bleeding’s base dmg is 103, but with constant 6 might stacks (superior sigil of battle) and some food (Lotus Fries + Tuning Crystal) it is around 125dmg.
If you are good with micromanagement you can swap Shrapnel for Enhanced performance witch basically means 9-12 stacks of might if you play it good.
However, the most important thing to know is what you are doing and what you are supposed to do! Nothing can beat that! At high level (meaning 40 and above) fractal runs you are expected to know certain things.
Few personal tips (some you probably already know):
Elixir S can negate any agony damage – except the agony received by Jade Maw.
Gear Shield can block literary any attacks, including boss’s attacks dealing agony – again, except agony from Jade Maw.
When using Greande kit, throw all grenades out with Poison grenade being last – it creates combo field; quickly swap to Pistol and “autoattack” (skill 1) through field.
Box of Nail can be used to slow charge or the warriors in Ascalon fractal.
At lvl 48 and with 45 agony resist (current max) you will go into downed state at Jade Maw. You can use Throw Elixir R to revive yourself and team mates.
With Grenade kit you can kill harpies on platforms (Uncategorized fractal) by targeting bottom side of the platform.
You can block “wind-blowing” and exploding traps during Clifside fractal with gear shield.
With Grenade kit, and careful targeting, you can destroy defense towers in Underground Facility Fractal from safe distance.
