I’ve been working on a Bunker Build for tPvP. The build focuses on Kit Refinement for Elixer Gun and Bombs Heal, stacking Healing Power and Toughness for additional Power.

I can’t decide between these the Dolyak or the Earth rune sets.

Dolyak gives 125 hp/sec + 50 Vitality.

Earth gives +20% Prot, Prot on hit, and Magnetic Field (which I’ve not seen its usefulness yet). I have 3 sources of Prot: 1) Prot on being Crit (20 sec cd), 2) Prot on Disable (5 sec cd), and 3) Prot on hit (30 sec cd).

Which would you suggest? Or would you suggest an entirely different rune set?

From what i can remember, dolyaks regeneration effect only gives 30hp a second, making it fairly useless.

Doh! It must be the Kit Regeneration giving me 125 hp/sec.

30 HP/sec doesn’t seem worth the tradeoff of even just Prot on Hit. I’ll be rethinking this and probably will go with either Earth or Melandru. I keep getting wrecked by conditions and just found out that Water Field + Projectile may not be removing conditions like I had hoped it would.

You might look at the forge rune set from SE. I use to rune earth but have swapped to it in my condi bunker build.

I’ve just been trying to find a happy medium for DMG vs tankiness. I’m pretty much unkillable 1v1 with this build but at the same time I can’t kill anyone either bc my damage is so low, but if your wanting a Tanky build I’d say def earth is the way to go. I find if I make the slightest adjustment to this build to make it more lethal its tankiness goes to kitten. I think that build is showing Elixir r for the third utility but I actually switch it out quite a bit with toolkit and try to stack confusion with prybar, pistol 3, and concussion bomb for a little killability, and gear shield is never a bad thing to have.

I find it’s damage is quite good. I really don’t like the idea of running Pistols with the Bomb Kit, as the Pistol scales with Condition Damage and the Bombs on Power/Crit. I like the Rifle + PBR for additional control on the point and they both scale well with Power.

I have a total level 13 engineer question… for Inventions skill 11 (bomb explosions heal allies), is that bombs or bombs and grenades?

Has anyone considered Rune of Dwayna for a more sustained build? Regen scales of healing power decently which the entire set gives you like 165 healing power. You also get a 6s regen (with the +% regen duration) whenever you swap to medkit on a 10s cooldown. Coupled with elixir gun’s toolbelt skill and you can have constant regen for a while. Further addition of backpack regenerator could give us some serious guardian-like healing, esp. when considering we have 2 super elixirs.

@varqov its just bombs. It would be pretty sick on nades especially with 3 nade trait. @duke Was actually looking at those runes today I think I tried them back when I was new to engi so honestly didn’t know what I was doing. I’ll give them a try tonight. I’ll have to admit I am a very big fan of protection over regen though so will be tough to sway me. I love reducing someone’s total dps with prot coupled with elixir gun 1’s weakness cutting they’re crit DMG in half.

Hmm how are you stacking protection consistently? The % chance on Rune of Earth seems a little inconsistent and has a pretty hefty cooldown for 4s of protection.

Also, I was looking into Rune of the Water, which gives a % chance to remove a condition on hit as the 4 piece bonus, coupled with a heal (on a 10s cooldown) when you use a healing skill (medkit). I wasn’t really that impressed with the heal as it seemed to be between high 600s and low 700s (unaffected by healing power I believe), but I don’t know if that outweighs 6 sec of regen (affected by healing power) from Rune of Dwayna.

You’re right it’s not as easy for an engi to have near constant uptime of protection like the d/d elementalist I wish we did have more protection abilities. Maybe it’s just me but it does seem like its up a lot. That accompanied with smoke bomb when protection is down works very well. Also just remembered if u drop big ol bomb or shield 1 in your super elixir field it will grant aoe retaliation. Another option is to run elixir B in place of R or toolbelt in my build for another outlet of retaliation for a little extra dmg, but I’ve found although a little more difficult to pull off, confusion stacking yields more DMG then retaliation. Just more difficult to land prybar and concussion bomb.

Here’s another thought, which I’ve toyed around with a bit: 2/Dwayna, 2/Monk, 2/Water. Gives +30% buff, +20% regeneration duration.

You don’t get protection the way you would with Earth, but you get good uptime on pretty much everything that gets thrown on you. Can also get a decent number of might stacks on you by yourself (10+) which helps mitigate the lack of damage you’ll be doing with this build.

What keeps me off a 6/Dwayna+Medkit is the sheer fiddliness of it. I already have to deal with Elixir B, Toss Elixir B, Healing Mist, Super Elixir (KR), Super Elixir, timing the various fields that I want to set off and doing whatever attacks I want… I don’t want to add turning the Medkit on and off every 10 seconds too; I’ll just stick with Elixir H.

Ran 6 Dwayna runes last night and was just silly. Hands down better than earth. Still undecided on a definite slot 3 utility. I like the idea of confusion stacking but in a lot of situations it’s just so clunky and only effects 1 target. So I may try elixir b again for the boons that will be good against all targets in which I will switch out my alchemy traits to elixir duration and elixir cd reduction. U decided on a heal utility as well. Since ill be trying the alchemy traits I may go to elixir H. I do however love med pack even b4 the Dwayna runes. Love having my big heal on toolbelt when at 25% health all TB skills come off cd. But as far as shear heal numbers go dropping heal turret and immediately picking it back up for the burst heal is the way to go. If u pick it right back up puts it on a 15sec cd without any traits dedicated to it. So honestly heal skill are a toss up for me I feel the engi really does have 3 viable heals. I will try your mixed method of runes later today would be nice to see what we can get boon duration up to.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the 6 Dwayna runes. I think it’s only worth running 6 Dwayna if you use medkit to allow regen to essentially be up all the time. If you prefer the healing turret for the blast heal, I think doing Venthus’s +30% boon duration setup may be more advantageous.

Yesterday I noticed that my build lacks anything to counter CC or Conditions. I decided to switch to Melandru and don’t regret it at all. I need to do a bit more testing, but the loss of additional Protection didn’t affect my incoming damage. Thieves still wrecked me the same, but a more proactive use of Smoke Bomb fixed that.

The Dolyak rune isnt for lv80~~It mean nothing in lv80 area, but significance in lower level~
It used to have a 30/s constant regen on any level~Now they changed a bit, but still does 23/s in AC~

I wouldn’t call a rune that gives 165 toughness and 50 vitality and a never ending 30 heal tic as useless.

Poor craftsman blame their tools. Poor players blame their Engineer.
