Can A.E.D be... good?
I’ve already messed around with A.E.D with a Static Discharge Build but with this new version it might be pretty interesting. If you land the supercharged version after say a Overcharged Shot + Magnet combo you would probably be able to have the stun last long enough to land Pry Bar and at least the first part of Rifle 5. Take Goggles and use its toolbelt with it and you got yourself a mighty strong spike.
I’m not sure that we’re going to suddenly be in the age of the #GadgetMeta but it should be fun at least.
Old Man Burr (War), Bad Hat Ben (Engi), Manly Manny Manson (Guard)
I’m looking forward to seeing how it works out with my current gadget build, which is more damage and CC oriented.
I’ll admit I’ll miss the aegis proc off the mine toss and fury from the ram, but a 50% CD reduction off something like A.E.D. could be quite valuable.
Not only that, but there’ll be a lot of use for utility goggles/analyze with the lock-on trait, although traiting gadgeteer does lock one out of taking kinetic charge.
I only wish it wasn’t based on hits taken and instead distance moved or crits delivered. Having to take hits isn’t fun.
Yea, the trigger needs rework.
For other classes they already said that it’d be counter-intuitive to severely kitten yourself in order to get a artificial advantage.
From what it looked like, they are still discussing and changing things around, so nothing is final. If we’re lucky it’s already fixed before the patch goes live.
The trigger would probably work in WvW or sPvP, but almost never in PvE.
Since i have it, i only use AED. I already get 2 uses out of it thanks to right timing with AMR. Fighting a Burst Thief in PvP on a Point: He “kills” me once, back to full with AED, he “kills” me after it, back to full with AED, I kill him since he has no AED and he just goes “WTF?”.
I even soloed Mai Trin with it while my team was faceplanted on the floor.
crossing my fingers for mine to become a spider mine that charges your target with an overcharge

i would prefer a 1000 Units Launch
im of the opinion that if youre taking aed, you will prolly only want 1 of amr and gadgeteer
the utility provided by each trait seems a little conflicting to me. id rather have healing turret and a reset and guarantee my slicky is big than divide my charges between 3 gadgets (my normal build where i would want gadgeteer uses rocket boots and slicky).
the way gadgeteer will most likely (almost assuredly?) function is it stacks to 5 and then burns the charges upon skill use, and taking hits while at max charges wont do anything for you.
to get off a good slicky, i need positioning that looks suicidal, so im going to be taking hits as i go in and im going to want to not be taking hits as soon as i use up my static charges, which isnt exactly an optimal use pattern for getting an overcharged aed. apart from gimmicky saves, aed is a bit lackluster because its best case scenarios mesh poorly with “heal early to start the cd sooner”… but healing turret has excellent group support and having both amr and gadgeteer wont feel bad at all with good ole turret.
but i cant flip aed off the table since idk the nitty gritty details of gadgeteer just yet.
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions
I still feel it should grant you charges on crits you apply rather than being hit allowing you too stack up to 25 charges so you can use gadgets quickly after each other without waiting for another kittens to charge one.
i dont play engi much but it certainly looks amazing at first glance. the 20s CD is pretty much guaranteed even if you have more then 1 gadget, it just so easy to proc with no IC.
4,5k heal that clears all damaging conditions, heals you for 13k if you use it when really low and resets at 25% (which pretty much gurantees that 13k heal when you need it), good toolbelt skill, and we dont even know how much better the overcharged version is, all that on 20s (!) CD – yes please. looks like the best heal in the game to me. And thats on a class that now has insane passive heal per second from bunker down. How you ever gonna kill that.
But i think gadgeteer gets patched within 3-5 days, its just too strong. The amount of rage overcharged slick shoes every 20s (or any other gadget really) on top of aed will generate, will be massive
.
Something like 20-30 stacks before you can overcharge sounds better to me. It would still be very strong but you would need to think when and with which gadget to use it. 6 stacks is nothing, with all the multi hit skills, sigil procs, clones, pets, summons etc. its overcharge every couple seconds even when you are not taking heavy dmg. Or keep it under 10 but add a 1-2 sec ICD.
