Can Function Gyro Res the Engineer?
Not ‘ironic’ at all. Have you seen hammer? It is pretty much a souped up Ranger Greatsword.
As for your question: we do not know. Seems unlikely that we would be able to activate it while we are downed, but it would be great if we could.

That’s precisely what I’ve been thinking. Even the AA, while kinda weak, mirrors the Ranger GS weak AA, except instead of evade it gets might/vulnerability. Frankly though, that’s exactly what I wanted from hammer, Ranger GS is an excellent example of a utility weapon.
On topic tho, I don’t imagine it would rez the user either. It seems bound to the F activation which we wouldn’t use in downed state.
The Fucntion Gyro seems only to be activated when you are able to press F. Since you are not able to press F in downed state I don’t think so. However maybe when you press F on a downed ally, then go downed yourself, it will leave the ally and come to you.
I can see A-Net attempt to address the PvE concerns by having the gyro automatically come out and try to revive you if it is not on cooldown.

If it did and gave quickness instead of superspeed, this would be a great improvement, since you’d res faster (am I right in thinking quickness effects all actions including res?). Change the second minor to this (or better yet, add it) and we could be in business. Would still be situational but better.

In general, I think quickness would have been a MUCH more interesting ‘boon’ / ‘effect’ to base the class around. As the class exists now, I still think the change can be made without making us too powerful.
Maybe some tweaks to duration and an added cooldown to one or two traits.

they are giving the non-meta classes roles for group play. mesmer owns the quickness role. engies own the super speed. rangers probably get resistance.
Celestial Avatar is like an old man: Takes forever to get up and is spent in 4 seconds

Chronomancer has one quickness trait and one quickness skill. They do not use it as much as Scrappers use Super Speed.
I assume Raven is referring to Time Warp, actually. But it’s still a bad comparison, since Quickness shows up on several other classes as well. Including Engineer: Elixir U.

Function Gyro works on your target. You can’t target yourself. So no, it won’t work on you unless they give it special mechanics to do so. And it would likely be overpowered if it did, anyway. Sure, Rangers have a self-revive mechanic like that, but they give up their downed F3 for it and its got a cooldown before you can use it at all, neither of which would apply to self-rez Function Gyro.
We can’t know 100% without ever seeing it in action, but as others I’m pretty confident the answer to the OP is no.
It would be cool if they included this effect in a GM trait somehow on a long cooldown like 60s or something, but I don’t see a good place for this. Maybe if traits get reworked to a point there’s space for it that would be nice but it’s not necessary I don’t think.
