Since our KR got nerfed because it was too powerful and build defining as a tier 1 trait, how about we make our GM traits in the tools line powerful and build defining. Currently there’s a reason no ones was taking them with 30 points in tools or even not going 30 in the first place, because those traits are kitten. Can we get some changes for those traits that put them in line with some of our other GM traits like Grenadier, HGH, Juggernaut, etc?

Also anyone else get the sinking feeling Static Discharge will be getting the nerf hammer soon? It fit the description of why KR was nerfed; it is a powerful build defining low level trait. I’m predicting a 20 sec internal cooldown for it.

I personally use Adrenal Implant, the endurance regeneration combined with vigor is massive. But i agree with you, it is not in the “GM field”, or is not a build making trait.

I feel that there’s no need for a SD Nerf, unlike 100nades you can’t 2 shot people, and pretty much all classes have burst oriented traits.

What i feel engi needs is a revamp of a few traits, and perhaps move some traits into other lines that make more sense. (Power Wrench/ Packaged Stimulants could go to Inventions) Also Rifle Turret Barrels is a joke of a GM trait…

We have:

- grenadier: soooo strong as trait that it totally makes or breaks grenade usage.

- HGH: like grenadier, builds are build upon this one. I never use it, but it’s pretty awesome of course.

- juggernaut: strong, but under debate because it punishes us for swapping out of the FT while not being strong enough to stay in the FT…

- coated bullets: many like it, but it’s not a must-have trait. Also odd that it’s all it does, while rifle gets this baseline…

- elixir-infused bombs: not bad at all, but when push comes to shove, our healing bombs are not healing enough to make it a real awesome GM trait.

after 2 great ones, 2 or 3 debatable ones who are still good… I’m stuck a bit.
I was hoping for more good ones, but I can’t list any that I know are build defining… or even used a lot.

This is NOT a terrible result by the way.
But it’s a bit sad the Tools GM traits aren’t worth mentioning as ‘build defining’.
For me our GM traits either need a few tweaks (coated bullets, juggernaut, maybe even elixir-infused bombs) and a few need straight hard buffing.

Grenadier on the other hand is too strong as trait: grenades need to be better baseline, so the trait (and the 25 trait before) are needed less to make grenades work.
End result should not be weaker, just less emphasis on the trait itself.

Adrenal Implant does not stack with Vigor. Vigor overwrites it. Which is why that trait is not popular (also that it’s a copy of an ADEPT MINOR trait Ranger has). Speedy Kits+Invigorating Speed=perma-Vigor, and they’re both Adept traits.

Made a tank build based around Adrenal Implant but I agree that Armor mods isn’t……..[Challenge Accepted].

I made a build with Armor Mods (but you don’t need armour mods in it). T’was hilarious. Boon/Condition Build. Stack Retaliation, stack Might, Stack Regneration and pound your enemy with conditions up their nostrils, also they take damage from Rune of the Air. You could literally just keep spamming one and fast hitting characters kill themselves. Slow but hard hitting characters take a bit more time but you can kill them too. Nothing tourney worthy though.

Thanks for the info on Adrenal, if so is the case, then the trait is even more weak.

Honestly for a grand master trait in tools I would like to see a trait for gadets, I have no idea what but something to make them shiney. Alternatively I would not mind if they remove the Global Cooldownf or KR (each kit has its own cool down) but make it a grand master in Tools, or somewhere else, idk, but you are right most grand master traits pale in comparison to Grenadier or HGH (even though I do not really use them often, they are really powerful).

Rather not the ‘treatment’ they gave KR it’s kinda useless :/. But I’d really like to see a (usefull) rework! Adrenal implant is just… why would you use it when you got invigorating speed?

I think the idea is that it is supposed to synergize with the last minor trait in the Tools line.

Enduring Damage: +10% damage while endurance is full

This might be useful in PvE because you can probably just stand at range in some fights and not having to dodge often. When you do dodge, Adrenal Implant will fill your endurance up faster without the help of vigor so you can get your 10% damage boost back. However, it’s basically useless in PvP because you’ll need to be dodging frequently (unless you just want to lose). As such, your endurance will never be full. It might help out with an initial burst combo, but that’s about it.

The “issue” with Invigorating Speed is that you constantly need to swap to and out of a kit to use it properly, which is maybe not the optimal way to go about it in PvE. But sPvP, or especially WvW, Invigorating Speed is much more valuable.

But yeah, I’d never see myself investing more than 20 points in Tools.

Funny how the GM trait Armor Mods is also outclassed by the first minor trait in Alchemy:
drinking an elixir B for free at 75% beats having the 5 sec retal on a 25 sec cooldown I think.
Maybe not on very long fights, but on most fights I think the elixir B is better.

And you can’t control either of them, so that’s not a valid difference.
At 75% health isn’t too low either, as a proc. Making that usefull for almost every fight.

Not being sarcastic, you don’t spam pistol 1 long enough for coated bullets to be even remotely worth taking as a 30 point trait.

Unless we are talking about pve and wvw then do as you please because you can get 10000000000000000000% condi duration and all that jazz.

Well both, I agree Coated Bullets isn’t as game changing as other GM traits but it’s a solid trait that make #1 and #2 on pistol very good. That annoying spread on Poison Dart Volley actually becomes a fantastic way to spread poison around.

Plus, it’s not like you’re wasting points in Firearms just to get that trait, you get good stats, minor traits, and other trait choices for going up to Coated Bullets.

I’m saying pistol isn’t a good enough standalone weapon to justify taking coated bullets.

Let’s look at this from a logical point of view:

Coated bullets really only affects 1 & 2 on pistol. How often do you use pistol 1 spam to spread bleed? Not to mention the duration on the bleed on pistol auto attack is terrible, even with quickness you can barely reach 8 stacks with max crit/ earth sigil

But go ahead and make a viable pistol only build, I’m sure it will work out.

Edit: This trait would good if pistol 1 actually spread bleeds through the explosion like the tool tip says it does but sadly it does not.

This really needs more attention. For traits that are suppose to be powerful and “build defining”, we’re instead given garbage. And it is a real shame that they have been garbage since release and have seen no changes. Then again we still do have a trait that absolutely does not function at all that still hasn’t been fixed since release.

Try this:

Go on the GW2 Wiki and find the engineer traits! ( complete list ) and read the grandmaster traits only!

On TEXT , they look good, like they could be useful! but once you get on the game and try them… its a complete different story!

Traits will not be fixed, until and influential person on Anet sits down and plays with the engineers, cause as long as they only read the tool tips! they will assume the class is “FINE”

Tyler Bearce is an ANet Dev who plays an Eng in TPvP using Turrets and the new KR. His reasons for using the new KR trait are:

  • “First, I’m often bunkering a point. So my refinement is cooling down while I’m waiting for an opponent to show up”
  • “The other reason is because my fights tend to last a long time, so … I’ll often still get multiple uses out of it before I fight is concluded”
(Is it just me, or do these sound more like apology than praise for the new KR trait?)

It seems that what we need is an influential ANet person who plays other Eng styles in WvW and PvE like the remaining 99.x% of us Engs.
