New engineer here. I’m planning on PVP once I get to 80 and want to be that annoying pain in the kitten that ties up 2 or even 3 of the other team trying to kill me at a point. I’m currently at work, where pretty much all of GW2 stuff is blocked expect the forums miraculously. I’m just wondering what HGH means as a build. I’ve read most of the other stuff and have some general ideas of what I’ll need to do once I get 80. Thanks

HGH is the name of the trait in alchemy that gives 2 might for each elixir you use and 1 might for each tossed elixir you use, the name of the HGH build is obviously based off of that trait, for the actual build its self generally its 6 points in alchemy taking the fast-acting elixirs/cleaning formula 409/ HGH and 3 elixirs which is normally elixir H (your heal) Elixir B (for the handy boons) and elixir S for a stun breaker and 1 kit and an amulet corosponding with whatever type of damage you want to deal the most pain with generally its either Rabid for condi, berserker for big numbers or celestial to make best use of the amount of might stacks you can get, in spvp you wont be able to take on 2-3 people solo with this build but you are quite strong in 1v1s and make a pritty good impact on a fight when you join one, traditionally in spvp the build is 60062/62060 and uses grenades, personally i dont think the standard HGH build is good enough anymore to be used in spvp but it is a very very good build for starter engineers if your not keen on turrets.

if i were to recommend a particular build this would be it.

yeah. hgh itself is pretty mediocre. alot of wasted time chugging elixirs. 409 is the real powerhouse.
then its a question, 2 more points for hgh, or 2 more elsewhere? will those 2 points elsewhere give me as much relative power as hgh?

Please don’t recommend turret builds to new engineers.
Turrets are there for trolling people, so you want to farm noobs in hotjoin or even unranked, which yields a lot of abusive responses (which are partly the goal to make sure that your enemy is really mad at you), so new plyers will get driven away from pvp rather than enjoying it on turrets.
they are not viable for any teamfights and actually weakening your own team since you’re stuck in being useless with high cd’s, unless you camp on a node (which is useless in itself).

So if you wanna recommend good builds to start out on, go for flamethrower or bombkit builds since both are easy to handle and fun to play. For those who really want to get deeper into the class you can recommend nade-builds to, like condi-2kit or cele-rifle.

turrets are there to support certain builds (rifle for s/d, flame for flamethrower, thumper for decap, a.s.o.), not to be built completely around.

HGH isn’t that good.
If you wanna kite people go for decap builds. Usually toolkit and flamethrower with 3rd optional between mine, slick shoes etc.

im not overly great at putting my thoughts into words, i ment it more in the context of what the op wanted which was to be that trolly guy that annoys a few people which ive obviously typed out in the wrong context.

but yea if your new dont join the turret engi cancer, its a low skill build thats only good for easily beating on groups of unskilled opponents and wont assist with becoming a better player

I would not support that.
Although I despise turret engi, I play it from time to time just to have some change. We have so many playable builds, it is great.
Turret engi is not neccessarily easy mode, there are a couple of very good counters against it. It furthermore helps you to practice chaining CC. With Netshot, OC, 4x turret knockback, supply crate and Rocket knock down plus thumper turret lauch.

Fightig against 3 ppl as I did yesterday, it becomes quite challenging.
But there are other cool builds out there: HGH, sd, Kitswap with Cele or Condi…
I just love our class. I need a profile-saver for my different builds to switch faster between them!

HGH is our high damage and high risk build. When you go full HGH it means you are stacking might to increase your total damage output. You won’t be tying up a point for 2-3 people though. You will basically be a tactical nuke on point. Put some fire/air sigils on, drink your elixirs, use elixir S toss to stealth in and then you jump shot, net shot, overcharge shot. You can then crate or use elixir x. I personally use elixir X for the stability but you lose access to healing and curing conditions. (risk/reward).

If you want to hold a point against 3 people then you are a bunker which is the opposite of HGH. In my opinion, HGH is used when you want to add a burst role to a team that has bunkers. However thief and elementalist would fill that role better. The pulsing stability on transform with area knockbacks and cc is a nice way to hold the point if you can’t win the initial burst but you will not win a long term fight on point.

If you really want to infuriate half of the opposing team in a single fight, you want a turret or Double kit condi build

Turret is typically 2/0/6/6/0, P/S with Rocket, Thumper and either Net or Rifle Turret, with Rifled Turret Barrels and Experimental Turrets as the GM traits, with the tankiest amulet, sigils and runeset you have. As others has mentioned, it is downright hated by those who constantly suicide themselves into it, but smart teams that know basic tactics will realize that, even if they don’t have anyone who can take you down 1v1, you camping one point basically guarantees 4v5 at all times for the other two. This problem can be lessened by picking the middle or far point to camp (especially on maps like Forest of Nifhel or Temple of the Silent Storm, where the points are spread out and have several ledges you can place turrets well out of normal cleaving/AoE range) or being the designated Skyhammer/Treb user on the maps they show up. However, you’ll still have the serious problem of being pretty much forced to stay with your active turrets are to be effective, which greatly hinders your ability to affect what is happening beyond their range.

Double kit Condi is P/S again with Bomb kit, and Tool Kit with Elixir S or Slick Shoes, depending on if you want stealth and something to secure stomps or a fast CD stunbreak with one of the trolliest CC skills in the game (I mean, sometimes your engi will even yell out “Slick Shoes!!” in an absolutely troll like fashion!… or at least Human female Engis do that). IIRC traits are 6/0/0/6/2, focused on improving bomb radius and cooldown + Incendiary Powder, as well as anything you can find that will generally annoy the heck out of anyone trying to kill you (acidic coating, Self-regulating defenses, Accelerant-packed turrets… you get the idea) with Backpack Regenerator and/or invigorating speed. Rabid for your amulet, with Balth or Krait Runes and any sigil that does inflicts condition (especially damage one). Generally requires more practice that turret engi does, but when you get the kit-swapping and water/smoke blasting down, you’re about as effective at bogging down and even defeating most players as turret engis are to just the desperate/arrogant/suicidal ones, without be tied to a single part of the map.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a ways to go yet to 80 but it’s nice to have some suggestions to practice.
