14,718 damage? Got hit with a fireball for 14,718 damage. I don’t think in an engineers wildest dreams we could ever do that much damage. Not even with a glass cannon build using Grenade Barrage at point blank range.

Hmmm, ouch. That’s insane. Was it luck or can this person probably pull this off regularly?

I’m not sure how its possible to get fireball that high. hmm.

This is the part where PvP pros will tell you “just dodge it”… :P

Having said that, I really feel damage in this game is a little over the top. Too many classes can do colossal damage in a second or two. It can usually be countered, but slightest bit of lag or any other issue, and you’re a corpse. This is especially evident in WvWvW, where culling often comes into play and the player killing you isn’t even drawn at times. You just go from alive to dead.

Yet i find GW2’s system pretty well done. You actually can mitigate whole damage from such strike with a simple dodge, avalaible for everyone no matter the class or level he/she has. It is easy to forget once you are used to it, yet there are MMOs where you cannot perform such trick and you are constantly falling to the coockie-cutters and fotms (all wave the SWTOR).

Besides I guess it was a mix of decent farmed gear with crit rolled, but very very squishy glass, dying from the sneeze. I’m guesing since I’m not falmiliar with ele yet

Fireball is an auto attack for a staff elem, mind you.

The Op appears to be wearing at least 4/5 COF exotics. which are glass cannon beserker.. but still exotics.
He was hit for 3 attacks after the 15k hit, which means the +20% damage to foes under 25% should not have been active. although, the timestamps on the log might be wrong. and maybe it was under 25%. +10% hes burning, +10% in fire attune, +20% under 25% hp. so we can assume +40% damage.
+25% vul, and medium armor.
(looking at an old builder atm mind you)

Fireball has .802 scaling.

Fireball damage= .802*1111* power/armor
Exotic leather armor with no toughness is 1064 armor, and 916 toughness for 1960 armor stat. (1111 is exotic staff weapon damage)

lets say the elem had 25 might stacks for +875, and all told 4000power.which is pretty high.

.802*1111*4000/1960
1818 hits.
Not sure if vul and other % buffs add or multiply. Let say add. +40% and +25% for +65%
3k hit.
Now +100% damage crit. (base crits are +50%)
6k crit. Still a long ways from 15k. Really. I have no idea how.

Not to sound doubtful, but this screenshot doesn’t prove very much. First and foremost, no gear was linked. The hero panel was not opened to prove that none of said gear was broken.

Not only that, but you make it sound like it’s impossible for an Engineer to hit close to that number. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve hit for 12k using Grenade Barrage. Yes, it’s not an auto-attack, but this screenshot provides nothing to go off of. How many stacks of Vulnerability was this hit at? How many stacks of Might did the Elementalist have? Was he using food buffs?

The image doesn’t really prove much, though I do agree that a 15k crit from an auto-attack is crazy.

Im running a glass cannon build. Power/Precision/Crit damage. So I do take a good amount of damage but not like this. I would even understand if it wasn’t an auto attack #1 skill.

And I don’t think its crazy to get good damage with grenade barrage. Ive crit twice for 10k and once for 11k. I doubt hip shot would ever get near that.

I have to assume it a log error. You got hit with a war aimed shot, ballista, thief backstab maybe.

That’s nothing… I got a 100k+ crit before using my hipshot and I’m only level 72. It was a sparkfly, but still!
