Care to evaluate my build?
Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
First of all, congrats on level 80! Wahoo!
Second, unless you already bought Runes of the Scholar I would change those runes to Runes of Strength! You get many more might stacks from Juggernaut that way! Also if you’re playing solo, the only person that the bad guys will hit is you! You probably won’t be over 90% enough to get the most use out of Runes of the Scholar!
Third, I’d take out points from Inventions and put them into Alchemy for Deadly Mixture! The 15% extra damage is amazing and better than the slight power increase from Energized Armor! Also the 15% bonus damage you get applies to your toolbelt abilities and Static Discharge if you have your Flamethrower Kit out! It’s great! The Alchemy trait line additionally gives boon duration, which again helps with might stacking!
As for your sigils, I recommend Sigils of Strength and Force! Strength gives even more might stacks and Force is just great damage!
Hope that helped! Wahoo! Bye frands!

id recommend rocket boots over tk or rifle turret
invaluable for solo pve
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions
Thanks guys! I’ll track down those traits and try it out.
Grats for 80 and hello!
So you say you want to master the engineer class? Then you should not be using the flame thrower more than for testing it and see how weak it is compared to an explosive traited engineer. The flame thrower just has a terrible dps on it’s auto. It has some average hitting skills, but in the end it’s more for the looks. It is ok if you are soloing, since you can trait for free stacks of might, however this trait will be weaker in a party where you hit the limit of 25 stacks.
The engineer class is imo the most complex and flexible class in GW2. It’s easy to play, but really hard to master. The main reasons why engineers are awesome, is because they can really do anything what other classes can do too. They are the best might stackers in the game, got good aoe heal, if required even reflection and invisibility. They are even great condi cleanser. They only lack in stability. However this awesomeness comes with a price – you need to be very fast on your keys, you have to work with finishers and combo fields and you have to understand how they work, to not mess them up.
So before I give you a suggestion about a build, I better ask you if you want to stay on the FT for solo play, or make a change and become an explosive engineer.

I want to make the change. I’m aware that FT sucks damage wise. When I play with friends and guildies I run a 6/6/0/0/2 build. But whenever I try something like that solo I get melted by veteran mobs.
Hm, dunno how you get melted with that. If you got difficult enemies you should go for 6/6/0/2/0 and go for vigor instead of 6/6/0/0/2 with speedy kits. If you want I can show you ingame
Also the shield is a good defensive and supportive weapon. It has a good block with stun aswell another combo finisher. Normally I run a rifle in open world, to tag enemies or just run around. However in pt I allways go for a shield with a pistol. Skills 3-5 are awesome, 2 just for single target damage (however I just use it cuz I got a quip). A well used pistol 3 blind can prevent a good amount of damage. And the additional might stack for the party outdamages the rifle anyway. The rifle 3 and 5 are great, ofc, however bombs and grenades aswell the elixier gun are often more than enough damage.

For solo content, anything you find fun is fine. But if i was to make changes to this, i’d say:
Replace flamethrower with bomb kit (it has much more damage and survivability)
Drop 1 point out of both tools and firearms and 2 out of inventions. Move all 4 points into explosives and pick forceful explosives and either short fuse or explosive powder.
Change fireforged trigger to infused precision (combos very well with invigorating speed)
Replace toolkit with battering ram (for more S/D)
Sigils can be battle and strength for easy might gain. May want some might duration runes to go with that.
Use cheap food. I use mango pies or blackberry pies for solo content.
Bomb kit is great for PvE.
Can easily kite mobs in circles while they stupidly run over your bombs ^^
Silly AI
Here is exactly what I use:
For serious content:

For open world and easy content:

The only difference are the traits and the rifle. You allways want to go for 6/6/0/X/X as a good engineer. There is no doubt about it.
The skills I use are for general purpose. Swap the least useful for other stuff if you have to. Like at the harpy fractale I swap the elixier gun with elixier U, so I’ve got a reflection wall + quickness (mainly for the reflection wall). Situational useful skills are:
- Rocket Boots for open world (faster movement).
- Tool Kit for block intensive and special content like Mai Thrin (aetherblade chick endboss in fotm).
- Elixier B for some stability at the toolbelt skill (wall fractale), don’t use the skill itself, so you can swap it again.
- Elixier U for reflection and anti projectiles.
- Elixier S for invulnerability at dangerious content like the molten berzerker or such stuff.
- Elixier C sometimes if you need the condi cleanse yourself. But most of the time the HT is enough and the elixier gun is better for your allies (3).
- Elixier R for content where allies MUSTN’T die and you are often not able to ress them, like the dredge fractale endboss or the molten twins. Haven’t testet it yet but I beleve it also works on death NPC’s, making it useful in ascalon fractal.
- Thumper Turret – the best and only useful turret (except HT ofc). It works a bit special: If you put it down and activate it and then blow it up, it will cause 2 combo finihser. Also it’s toolbelt has another combos finisher. ONE slot → 3 blast finisher. It’s perfect to stack a longer stealth than shadow refugee. Yet it’s long cd makes is weaker than the elixier gun with its combo finisher. So ust it only for stealth in first place.
And my decision about the bufffood: Simple. Precision is better than power on the engineer cause of vulnerability on crit and condition duration is by far better than anything else. Sure it gives condition damage but the 40% condition duration deals way more damage with vulnerablity and your team damage than even 200 power for yourself. So … it’s important that you can keep up 25 stacks on everything, especially champions+ wich have resistance to vuln dura. Passive damage op <3. Those are the cheapest and best bufffoods for an engi. There is also new food with 40% condi dura and 70 power, however it costs about 30 silver each compared to 2 siilver. Do the math .P
QUESTIONS ?:D glad to help

Thanks guys! That’s helped a lot.
I ran 6/6/0/0/2 all day yesterday and was much better. I’ve gotten much better at moving, dodging, and anticipating enemy attacks.
Hoping to farm CoF a lot in the future so I can get berserkers armor. Ascended armor and weapons are a long ways off. My funds are minuscule and it’s going to take quite some time for me to build my wallet up to that points
