So my Engineer is 72, and I’ve started to look into what I want to do at endgame. I really like the idea of the 3 kit celestial build.

Now sadly I’ve left it a bit late to be getting celestial gear. My Engi is a 400 leatherworker so I thought I’d be able to craft an exotic set no worries (Not going to do ascended until after HoT to see if it still holds up) but I wasn’t aware of the charged quartz timegate.

So while I wait 30 days to gather the necessary quartz, what stats do you recommend I wear in the meantime? Should I get a mix? Or lean toward zerk?

For WvW crafting celestial armor is a waste of time and resources! Knights armor with celestial accessories is best and is better in PvE if you don’t care about nerdy elitists yelling at you to use zerk!

Will mainly be PvE and WvW. Very rarely do PvP. And rarely do anything at all with randoms and as my guild are pretty chilled out, being yelled at about zerk isn’t really an issue.

I’ll try knights, thanks.

I find Celestial to be very ideal in WvW. In my personal opinion, OP, anyone who suggest otherwise, likely is not familiar with how to play or build with the gears benefits.

Once all the new changes are in I’d be curious to see the math as I’d think Celestials power and condi combination may actually perform better than Knights potentially. Though celestial is losing 10% on the stats if I read right.

As for knights being better in PVE… not really at all. Toughness will contribute to you pulling agro, meaning more focus on you. While it does make hits you take less painful, it’s still going to hurt because that’s what PVE is, big hard heavy damage. I’m a bit more of a “throw them in the deep end” kind of guy though, I just think you learn much quicker when you’re punished more harshly for mistakes. Zerk is factually better in PVE, it’s just a matter of whether you can handle it or not.

No, they said celestial “amulet” would change, not that it would change on PvE/WvW gear.

“This is probably as good of a place as any to mention that we’ll also be using this opportunity to rebalance PvP’s celestial amulet to be slightly less effective. We’re probably looking at a 10%~ decrease in overall stats, but this number can change as we draw closer to releasing the core specialization changes.”

Nice, I had just seen people mentioning -10% on celestial, not the actual quote, that’ll be nice. Honestly thinking that even in PVE celestial may be a pretty decent set for engi, of course zerk/assassin superior but celestial should easily be the go to “easier” set.

I have full celestial trinkets, and swap them between my two engineers. the norn runs zerk/assassin’s, and the charr rampagers. that being said, I never venture into pvp so it’s all wvw these sets. a lot of different sets will work with engineer depending on the build. the trusty rabid/dire combo is very nice for wvw.

I think you should take a look at/consider Sinister gear. engineer has so much access to condition damage that replacing ferocity with condition damage would result higher dps over time. You can get a full set of ascended sinister trinkets from getting the second half of LS2 achievements.
you will be getting 1-2k condi dps without even trying, 3k or more if trying, while still dealing high non-condi damage.

Well of course zerk is better in PvE! But if you were only going to make one set of armor for both PvE and WvW, I would advise building for WvW! This is because if you build poorly for WvW, you will have a hard time doing anything whereas if you build poorly for PvE, well it doesn’t matter because PvE is such a joke and you can do it with any gear! Also I said knights is better for PvE than celestial! Not the best overall!

Don’t make a celestial exotic! Totally a waste of time and quartz. If you want celestial do it ascended, otherwise mix other armor types

I’m, for example, running full ascended cele armor and zerker trinkets + all sinister trinkets ready for when the condition cap will be lifted (also considering an ascended sinister armor set, who knows)

As a full Ascended Celestial armored Anything, if you try to max Zerker stats by switching out trinkets and weapon, you will lose out excatly 176 Power, about 3-4% crit dmg and crit chance.
However, what you lose out in power, crit & ferocity you gain in all other stats.
Making you a bit more tanky, boosting your condi a bit and also your heal.

Same goes for when trying to go condi with celestial armor, what you lose in condi, you gain in all other stats.

at the point where one takes cele armor and zerk trinkets/weapon, one is mostly zerk. might as well go all the way and get the full synergy one way or another. dont mix cele and zerk. mix knight and zerk for wvw. or go full cele. or go full zerk.

Well, I use Celestial myself because it covers both condi and power for me. While the tradeoff is to wait 30 days or more to get the full set, it does seem to be worth it for me. You could work on Celestial, but in the meantime, Knight’s will give you similar results.

In PvE, I can say that Celestial stats are decent in dungeons (especially if you are not the kind of guy who speedruns, but then again same can be said for any stat)

celestial has absolutely terrible damage, so no, it’s not particualrly decent in dungeons.

If you have the gold, I would suggest crafting up to 425 leatherworker and crafting some zerker gear that you’ll need anyways. That way you’ll be partially there to 500 and future crafting will be easier, and you’ll have a set of gear that you can always use. For wvw, Rabid/dire is a good budget choice too.

I would not recommend celestial in pve just because a lot of the stats would be wasted.
