Recently the ele community is getting really depressed because according to them the ele has being nerfed to the ground to the point eles are completely useless for solo roaming in wvw. I declared the opposite and during that discussion I was called forward to show videos to backup my claim. One of the builds they want to see me defeat is a bunker condition build engi. If there’s any Engineer running this type of build from SOR or TC server please duel my s/d ele from BG on wvw for a video footage. Thank you!

I use one but I’m on fa :/ I’ll do it given the chance if get matched up for next time.

What are the chances BG will face anything other than SOR , TC , DB , JQ ? Slim to none afaik.

Why not try it in PvP instead of WvW? I understand this is WvW issue but if by duelling, I see no different in Mist or WvW.

WvW does have a lot more build variety, and the different objectives lead to a different style of combat altogether. But the big thing is, the challenge was issued in WvW, so it has to be done in WvW.

Not as many restrictions in WvW as in PVP , in pvp you are very limited.

Exactly!. I still haven’t find a high bunker/condition based engi roaming around. Most get nuked fast so I assume their armor must be below 2700. Any takers across these 2 servers (TC and Sor)? lets have fun duels ^^

If somebody wants to send me what the “standard” build is for the bunker condition engineer, I’ll put it together and work on getting accustomed to the play of it.

I promise you, I’m experienced, and I don’t think his idea of bunker is correct. I think what he really means is “not a glass cannon”.

That’s perfectly fine Tyaen as long as you don’t get burst down during the first 10 secs. I just want a good video footage where it shows a skillful condition based engi player that first of all doesn’t get downed quick and most importantly knows how to read his and counter his opponent. When I post the video I don’t want to read comments like “oh you were facing a noob or amateur player of course you will win” you know what I mean? I sent you a mail in game so let me know when it is most convenient for you to have our fun duels ^^

No Burst Eles full rotation can burst me down on their first try even when I am on my bunker Eles or even the entire fight, let alone Engineer.

He had a good build. The first burst wasn’t a problem. But, he did wear me down. Air Attunement Scepter build I believe. If my understanding is correct, his main attack resets every 5 seconds in that build. So I didn’t have enough healing/invul/block/etc.. resetting fast enough to keep up with the steady damage stream. It can be countered, and we only fought a couple times because it was right before reset. I would probably switch to a couple of protection traits on crit, and put on a shield.

Usually when I run into outlier builds that I’m not specced to kill outright, I’ll just kite into some guards and let them help me.

I would like to 1v1 again sometime when I have a bit more time to dedicate to it.

Edit: One last thought. While it is a super high single target damage build (some people in TS even thought the highest in the game if the build was what they thought). I’d be curious to see how it performs 1v2 or 1v3. I think it might have some problems, but obviously we weren’t testing escapability, so maybe it has some traits that would allow it to bug out .

1v2 is not an issue if I am able to take one of the 2 down quick with burst or if both opponents are very bunker that deals from mediocre to just moderate amount of dmg together. 1v3 I only win against awful players, for example if one goes down I can burst the other 2 if they attempt to healed up their downed partner or if I all 3 are very squishy to my burst. The build primarily excels in 1v1 and in group play 2v2, 2v3 3v3 and so on but it is also great in zerg fights if only one trait and one utility is changed for more defense and protection. Looking forward for more of ours duels!

As a ele, you will need to avoid the multiple pull-stun-daze-knockdown-cripple that the engi will put on you.

My armor sits at 2560. To fight that build, you need a purpose built Engi. The problem with that is your giving up some versatility. Could I beat him? Sure. Would I run in that spec all the time? No way.

By the way it’s not like he clobbered me, he wore me down. I could have easily escaped a real encounter once I realized I couldn’t win by attrition.

Don’t know your build btw, just saying that an elementalist have a really hard encounter against engineer that knows what one ele does.

Sure, lets do it.

He beat you because you were running p/v/t dual pistols with tool kit probably. Without the ability to apply any pressure to the ele, he was able to wear you down while simultaneously ignoring the minor damage you put out.

You’ll also see he dueled an engi with very high condition damage and similar armor to yours (rabid probably) and that engi won a few times.

I’d duel him one day, but I’m not the best engi, in fact I happily admit I’m one of the worst, but I do understand theory and stats. Mask’s p/p hgh build would probably do very well against him with his near perma boons and a combination of condi/power damage.

LightningBlaze, if we’re ever online at the same time, feel free to send me a tell for a duel. I’m currently more condition damage specced, but also have experience with a more bunker-type build. I’m on SoR btw
