Choosing an Engineer Race
Human.
I had these thoughts too, but in the end, it all comes down to aesthetics. Your story will end, your racial skills are not important, so what matters is looking good.
I think I look good.
Oh wow… that .. looks really kitten. ……
Edit: it appears I can’t say the word I wanted to. How about.. badbutt?
Badbooty! Lyuben, your eng looks awesome.
Before I commit to leveling any character, I take them to the Mists and try on all the different armor sets – and do a mix/match of different set pieces to figure out if I’ll think the character looks cool or not. I’ve recently done this and selected a female norn engineer after coming up with this armor combination.
Asura… I mean comeon, engineer? Crafting silly gadgets? Being just plain cooky? Asura. is the only way to go. Plus the golem race skills are perfect.
I love my Asura Engineer. Then again I played a gnome. For pure lore the Charr race developed the current engineer tech in game, so there is that. Humans seem like they would resit using something the Charr invented with their past.
The only thing I wish is that we could get different looks for each races tech
I don’t care so much for the lore behind it, although it does come into play a little the the industrial feel of the Charr.
I think I may need to re-roll as a human engineer. I don’t really want to, but I think I’m gonna miss out on looking awesome if I don’t.
Asura Engineer all the way. to be honest – I like the racial Golems. hey provide a nice Oh kitten button that you press in emergencies.
My engineer looks pretty decent imo.
Punny can you link a preview window/character window ss of your engi? It’s hard to see details in that lighting.
I roled an Asura engineer first, but because my main was an asura (thief) I didn’t want an account full of asura :T I re-rolled as a Charr, which I got to lvl 17 before finding out they don’t look very good in most armors. That being said, I considered rolling an asura engi again, but already had made an asura elem… I don’t want this to be like WoW where I have 5 of one race because I don’t like the others!
As an aside, I wanted to roll a Charr warr, but the way they fight with 2 handers looks kittarded. It’s like Tom & Jerry mallet-whacking… for shame.
Asura and Charr Flamethrower will miss more often than other races due to their size and shape, respectively. If you plan on using Flamethrower, I’d avoid those races until they fix them (lol fixing Engineer instead of nerfing it).
I went with a female human for mine, with the short red rockabilly sort of haircut. Looks like a complete steampunk vixen with the starter goggles. So human can be made to fit well with some creativity. Originally I went with Norn but their movement speed feels slow due to their upscaled size.

This is what I’m going with I like the look of this armor set up
Obviously a Charr. They created this, they are all steampunk, they fit the absolute best no arguement.
Asura don’t fit well because their tech is so advanced and stuff, an Asura engineer looks centuries behind normal asura.
The rest fo the races: Human- Too boring.
Norn: You dislike them.
Sylvari: Plants. Using. Tech. Lolwut.
Charr. (Edit: I don’t find the charr armor to be that bad :/ it looks pretty cool to me)
Looks should be your main focus. Voices are nice but really most people game with some music and are in a vent/mumble with guildies in PvP/sPvP/PvE. Racial traits are probably the worst for engineers. All engineer utility skills have two abilities, your main utility and then it’s toolbelt skill. When you choose a racial utility you just have that utility and no longer have a second skill. One could argue that some elites are good, but having an AoE ranged stun that tosses out health packs, nets targets and does damage.. that is pretty epic.
I’d suggest humans as they look great in exotic gear, the Charr are also a great choice if you like their look because they armor shows a lot of detail and you can distinguish their guild emblems well on their large backs.
Charr! As most medium armors look terrible on us…but hey! Atleast you do not have to search for good looking pants and boots, they look almost the same! Oh,and helmets are a no-no since they hurt your horns.
