This entire thing is a work in progress. don’t bite my head off. we need an elite kit and turrets need love too.

Commander Kit

Tier 2 Elite Skill (30sp (shut up it would totally be worth it))

KIT MAY OR MAY NOT NEED A COOLDOWN.

[Passive Kit Effect]
Autonomus Mode (passive buff gained on kit equip)
Causes your turrets to become mobile and gain a basic AI

[would probably require new models, as the current ones, well they’re awful. bad artwork incoming at an undisclosed time]

All turrets try to stay out of enemy AoE (though I doubt this would happen, most pet AI in this game is godawful, in fact, I hate to say it, but they should follow WoW if they don’t intend on making pets any better about not being kittened. just reduce the amount of damage AoE does to pets. /rant)

Rifle turret/Rocket turret, attempts to stay near max range of target and near the engineer (think necro blood fiend)
Flame turret/Thumper turret, attempts to get near/in the middle of groups of enemies near the target (targeted by 1) (thumper should be an aggro magnet, sort of like the asura defensive elite golem)
Healing Turret, attempts to get between as many allies as possible, while staying in range of the engineer
Net Turret, attempts to stay at it’s max range of the targeted enemy

[Kit Design]
short rifle or bullpup style rifle, something interesting like the vera model
backpack should have a combat radio style antenna with transmitting boop particle effects, possibly some other garbage, who knows, it’s a hobosack. don’t overthink it like the elixir gun pack please.

Hollow Round (1/4 sec, low damage ratio)
[Fire a shot that bleeds foes]

Incindiary Round (1/4 sec, low damage ratio)
[Fire a shot that burns foes]
~
Tracer Round (1/2 sec, shot fired in first 1/4 sec followed by short cooldown before restarting, like mace)
[Fire a shot, This causes all your offensive turrets to target this enemy, and increases their damage against it by ?%] (the % damage increase can be adjusted to balance the kit)

[2 skill] (7 sec CD)
(in the tradition of the engineer, I’ve made this an RNG skill. go ahead, bite my head off)

Grenade
[FIres a grenade from under your rifle, it has one of three random effects]
FreezeBurst Grenade
[AoE Chill, Ice Field]
Concussion Grenade
[AoE Confusion, Light Field]
Incindiary Grenade
[AoE Burn, Fire Field]

[3 skill] (12? sec CD)

Command: Shield

[Gives various types of shields to yourself and your active turrets]

Engineer ~ Magnetic Aura
Rifle Turret ~ Frost Aura
Rocket Turret ~ Fire Shield
Net Turret ~ Shocking Aura
Flame Turret ~ Fire Shield
Thumper Turret ~ Magnetic Aura
Healing Turret ~ Frost Aura

[4 skill] (45 Sec CD, no duration limit, like most turrets) _
_(dies when kit is stowed, goes on CD)

Maintenance Turret
[Drops a mobile turret which actively seeks out and repairs damaged turrets, by order of most damaged]
~ Overcharge
[Maintenance Turret repairs turrets at twice the normal rate, and grants protection to turrets in a medium sized AoE around itself]

[5 skill] (Uhm, 2 minute CD? Iduno lol)
(skill thrown in for laughs, probably going to be changed, but screw it, I’m tired, iron man 3)

House Party Protocol
[Summons any turrets not currently in utility/healing slots (NOT including this kit’s 4 skill), they have all bonus stats from traits, their active effects are automatically engaged. If the skill is not reactivated after 15 seconds, it automatically reactivates]

Clean Slate Protocol
[Orders all turrets summoned by [House Party Protocol] to move towards the last targeted enemy and self destruct when in range]

[Kit Refinement]
Equipping [Commander Kit] Creates another passive effect, granting a pretty reasonable percentage of your toughness to all your turrets, based on their types and average proximity to enemies. flame and thumper turrets getting the highest %, net and healing turrets a middle of the road ratio, and the rifle and rocket turret the lowest %

leave comments, constructive criticism, love, hate, tps reports, drawings, and any other miscellanea. I know Anet will never do it, but an engineer can dream can’t he!

as a quick side note, and to reserve this post for amendments, I’d like to add that the kit’s 4 skill would not include a detonate repair turret skill. that or you would have to activate it’s overcharge and THEN detonate it.

also. alternate models for turrets

Healing turret would retain the top bell shape, but get a hovercraft base to float it around the battlefield

flame turret would probably be a reverse jointed biped. lol@mechwarrior flame turret

thumper turret would have to have tank treads attached. literal tank tank.

rifle turret would be mounted on a standard bipedal setup. regular knees.

rocket turret would be on a quadrupedal base. four legs with a knee each

net turret would have three holonomic wheels, one on each leg of it’s current base or something silly like that.

and the repair turret? well that one would be special. I was thinking something along the lines of johria’s toolbox from urza’s legacy for all you MTG fans out there.

the ai for the turrets is way to hard to pull off.

The turrets would have to despawn and respawn as a new turret. So depending on the number of turrets you have out it would be a lot for the game engine to handle and process.

the same applies for the abilities depending on slotted abilities. There is a lot of back house calculation going on, which is very resource dependant.

You also talking about some 40 new abilities off 1 skill.

Its not a bad idea, and it’s really creative, but I do not think it is very feaseable with the current technology, and the amount of development time needed on the skill.

Aspects of the overall idea might be do able though. Like spawning a new type of mobile turret ((something similar to necro fleshgolem) or perhaps a limited duration or use kit with fixed skills ((no different skills per each unique ability, something like guardian tomes))

Keep in mind that the dev’s have said that just with text changes it is a 3 week turn around with the translations alone.

lol wow. three weeks for a few translations? that’s impressively unoptimized. and what I was thinking is that any turrets dropped while the elite skill was equipped would be of the new type, while the originals would remain the same. what about just a commander kit that allows you to select turret targets? maybe a few other basic turret abilities? keep the mobile repair pet and call it a day? xD
