Condi without 'nades?
I’m looking for a p/p build without nades too x.x
the thing about not using bombs or nades is you need a way to make your conditions meanful when you apply them and while some builds kittenay with them it takes alot oif extra skill to make them work even at 50% the effectiveness of a nade/bomb build, but luckily there is a build that makes you conditions very meaningful and is a very good starting point for new engineers and thats a HGH build, ill link a video to it, this isnt my video but the guy who runs this does it very efficiently.
now i think mask might run with different traits and i know he uses carrion and not sure about his runes, but i put rabid in the link since both carrion and rabid work very well with this build but you can pick up most of you rabid gear for karma in orr so it makes things alot cheaper, for the runes i put aristocrity since its great in this build but if you cant get them since you need to run dungeons then you can just use strength, cant afford strength? take hoelbrak, cant a afford hoelbrak then take something that helps with boon stacking, personally i dont mind alturism since it gives might and fury on heal which helps out and its real cheap so it makes it alot easier to try the build out to see if you like it befor purchasing some expensive runes.
anyway HGH isnt for top tier but its a solid starting point for new engineers since its forgiving and hits hard.
No bombs, no nades, condi heavy, final destination goooo
Burning is the primary form of pressure for Engineer; with all other condis being cover for it. With P/P, Hair Trigger and Rifled barrels make the Blowtorch easier to land and less punishing if it misses.
Use APT on Healing Turret and Flame Turret as interrupts and to counteract melee pressure. The damage is nice too. Elixir S is for stomps and rezzes.
The desultory, almost harmonised cooldown of Flame Turret’s Toolbelt Throw Napalm and the Turret itself let you apply burning outside of the Incendiary Powder ICD for even more pressure. Against ranged opponents, close the gap with Elixir Gun Acid Bomb, Elixir F or Glue Shot, then Throw Napalm and Blowtorch. Drop Flame Turret if you want to at this point for even more burning.
Cover the Burning with Elixir Gun autos (Never use Pistol autos, the Bleed stacks are unviable and the Weakness of Tranq Dart auto-covers IP procs and Bleed while stacking higher). Interrupt Heals with your Turret detonations or at the very least Poison them with Fumigate or Poison Dart Volley.
Against Melee opponents, the aim is about the same: Try to land your Burning Skills when they close the gap, counterpressure with APT Turret detonations. The difference here is that you now also have Static Shot to counteract incoming melee burst skills like Eviscerate. Against Thieves, drop and Overcharge the Flame Turret for Blinds, but it’s better to reserve it, drop Throw Napalm and Glue Shot, cover the burning by Fumigating, then Acid Bomb out when the Thief Stealths. Drop the Flame Turret when the Thief commits to threat overload the Thief and kite him around it whilst spamming Elixir Gun autos – the Weakness will cut the damage output significantly, especially crit-reliant classes like Thief.
Sigils are standard Battle/Energy, although one can choose Geomancy or Hydromancy as well, or even Generosity in a Condi-heavy environment.
One can even choose Smouldering for even more Burning Duration for a disgusting total 75% Burning Duration in PVP or a potential 125% total Burning Duration in WvW with Toxic Focusing Crystals and Condi duration Food – which is effectively 100% uptime of Incendiary Powder procs and is truly disgusting. Even with that kind of Burning uptime, it is still good to use various Pistol skills to cover and extend the Burning.

I played a pure P/P no kit HgH build and it worked amazing. I’d say either of the two builds here would work great for what he is looking for.
Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
Ask your frand if he enjoys being successful! Ask him if he likes to win fights! If he said yes, tell him to suck it up and pick up grenades and/or bombs! Or reroll to a different class! There is no condi build that will be successful against anyone even remotely competent without grenades and/or bombs!
Don’t take your anger out on me please! Blame Arenanet for pigeonholing Engineers into the Explosives trait line!
Wahoo! Bye frands!
Is you’re friend fine with just swapping to bomb kit every now an again for attacks while staying with p/p, or is he against using bomb and grenade kit whatsoever?
Because if he’s against it entirely… It’s not as bad as #1 NA Engi Vee Wee puts it IMO, but there is just so much even a casual use of bomb kit gives a condi engi that it seems a bit extreme to forgo it entirely.

just to clarify for vee wee, in spvp it’s explosives or nothing, in wvw while nades and bombs are dominant it’s possible to not use then due to the insane amount of condition damage you can jack up.
also people arnt as good in wvw.

Edited your build
-less mobility between points, more mobility / dodges on point.
-also increased the condi-dmg and burn duration…
funfact, FT #1 is enough for permaburning on this setup, even without its BA or IP…
You can probably do Bombs/Flamethrower with that stunbreak elixir if he wants go condi heavy and can handle 2 kits. -maybe- rocket boots, bombs stunbreak elixir. But in reality if he wants to win more as an engineer, he needs to get used to 3 kitting it.
I HATE grenades and I do just fine with Bombs. Although I use bombs, elixir gun and toolkit.
