Deployable Turrets gone?
It looks gone. Which is a pity because it makes turrets practically unusable in PvE and WvW for me. My main engineer was turret based, and I basically just gave up and gave him random traits and skills that weren’t turrets and will now ignore him for a bit and hope this gets changed.
Of the seven turret traits, three look totally gone (Deployable Turrets, Auto-Tool Installation, and Accelerant-Packed Turrets), two have merged (Fortified Turrets and Metal Plating), one needs to be tested if it is baseline, but I don’t think it is (Rifled Turret Barrels), and one is now a master trait and otherwise remains a trait I wouldn’t touch for turrets (Experimental Turrets).
For score, that leaves… half of one of the current turret traits in the game that I had used for my engineer yesterday. One and a half traits I wouldn’t use. Because both the turret traits I can see (and maybe I am missing the others, or Rifled Turret Barrels is baseline) are defensive. Four (five, now that Supply Crate counts) of the five (now six) turrets are offensive. To use the four utility turrets offensively, I have to run into the enemy. Where without autotool, they will die faster. Of course, since I have to run into the teeth of the enemy to place them, I am dying faster too.
If you used turrets for anything besides full defense, they are pretty much crippled into an unusable state currently.
Edit: Half of Accelerant Packed Turrets is apparently baseline – the damage, but the knockback is gone. Checked it while stewing over this.

I used Healing Bombs with a cleric setup religiously, it is gone now too.
Edit: Knockback on turrets is in explosions line i believe.
Found the knockback. It’s on a minor trait in a trait line I no longer had no reason to look in.
I pretty much have given up on turrets until/unless this is altered. They are no longer an offensive capable skill line, and going all the way back to the drawing board is better than having to deal with their new clunky support role.
Yeah I’m gonna shelve my Engi until I can use my turrets again (maybe even until I get my range back too) because I’d rather not deal with it in that broken form. Sure I could go firearms and weapon kits at maybe mid range(which the trait lines seem to be pushing HARD) and closer, but it takes the fun out of the class for me. Hey ANET, any word on if/when turret traits are going to be restored, even if it were a “new” trait line or specialization in HoT?

I hardly EVER post to forums. This is one of those rare exceptions for me. Deployable Turrets were a HUGE part of my playstyle. I can’t overstate that enough. Anet… please tell me this was an oversight and that they will return… PLEASE?

The thing I find unsettling about this, is that I’ve practiced hard over the past several years to become adept at strategically deploying my turrets while on the run. Perfecting the art of turret placement while in the heat of battle was particularly exhilarating for me. I have to admit I got really good at it, and for me, it’s what made my engi fun to play. Now it’s gone for no good reason. Years of perfecting a difficult playstyle… wasted. I just don’t get it. Anet, can please tell me your reasoning behind this?
I bet they’re saving those old traits for the engi specialization, and that seems cheap. Taking away old traits to put into a new specialization that we have to pay to use.

That would be very unfortunate. The sad thing is, I’d probably pay it. It’s either that or not play the class at all. Tried playing my engi some more today… I can’t tell you how many times my muscle memory kept trying to deploy my turrets, even though I knew I couldn’t. This bites so hard!

Ohyeah, I’ll definitely pay lol, but if they did that it would be kinda.. poopy of them.
I as well relied on deployable turrets and now I’m wondering what class to play instead. My Engineer was my main character, got my Legendary on it. Why can you deploy the supply crate turrets and not the others? It doesn’t make any sense.
I am also wondering what class to play now. Yes I too put most of my energy and resources into Engineer. Glad I haven’t pre-ordered HoT yet and if destroying my favorite core features of my favorite class is what I have to look forward to, well then maybe I won’t.

Well that’s a shame… been playing with my own turretbased engineer even without these traits for the moment… trying to see what fits the new setup best. I DID find the shields again AND the explode when they are destroyed traits, but I this will take some working.
In anycase, Im keeping them, broken and all… still think it’s a fun as hell take on the zookeeper class I usually play, so Im not changing. Let you know how it turns out.
