I was seeing forge comments and what not and another brilliant idea hit me! What IF A-net released a toy drone that when activated our character would remain on a “activating control panel animation” and we took control of a forge drone to scout the area? the drone would be un-targetable by enemies and the only action we have is key 6 to stop controlling the drone. Thoughts?

It would fit with the new tech that lets them disconnect the camera from the player, however this is a very useless functionality in most gamemodes. Maybe usefull in WvW as the drone isn’t targetable and you can scout or follow an enemy group, but in PvE, I see no reason to use this.

Maybe it could be paired up with some functionality, like teleport to the drone.

Its a bit off topic. But WoW had two abilities granted to the hunter called Eagle Eye and Eyes of the beast for a very long time.

Eagle Eye allowed the player to view any point thats withing los of them as if they were standign right there while leaving there body behind.

EoTB allowed the player to mind control there pet and scout with it.

I could see similar skills enter gw2 but there were some flaws.

Eagle eye let you see who was in the area but that was it. You gained ultimately nothing and you couldnt see stealthed enemies. Making it worthless as a scouting tool.

If we could scout an area using a spell and have it show us stealthed players WITHOUT UNSTEALTHING THEM. we would be potentially be able to be prepared when we get hit from stealth. In that way it wouldn’t take away there strength but it would give you an idea that its coming.

Eyes of the beast (closer to what you mentioned) was nice however it had similar issues in that functionally it wasn’t actually useful. The pet itself couldn’t do enough to be dangerous to enemies. And leaving behind the players body was too risky to use as a scouting tool when you could easier turn your camera around the corner and see whats inside without risk.

I woudlnt be against skills like those entering the game with the forge drones. However they would need to have additonal functionality ONTOP of that. (like say. a controlled drone could do things a normal drone couldn’t do that was actually relevant to combat as Are mentioned)

or else theyl end up like the skills I mentioned before. Which were deleted entirely from the game.

Well unlike WoW, players don’t walk around with stealth on in GW2 so I don’t think it would be nessesary to let us see stealthed enemies. If they see the drone before the drone sees them, then wasting a stealth skill to avoid it is valid counterplay.

Any ideas on what kind of function a drone like this could have? If it is untargetable then we can’t add anything that affects enemies to much, or it would be really unfair. However if it was targetable and could take dmg like turrets or minions then we could have some cool abilities. Maybe we could use toolbelt abilities from the drone, calling down an Orbital Stike from the drones viewpoint, or shooting a static discharge burst from the drone itself. It should be something that makes it worth leaving your body behind in at least two of three gamemodes.

That’s why I called it a drone TOY. Its a toy its only function is to scout/control him like a RC. If it were to be an ability it would need way more restrictions so that it doesnt feel op.

If it was an exclsuive forge ability it would be targetable and had a time limit.
