You must understand that balance is an issue when it comes to changing traits or skills so those will definitely take longer to apply than a broken trait. The Rangers were supposed to see a rework and we are still not sure when that’s going to happen IF it’s going to happen that is.

Some good points there, especially concerning bug fixes or the lack thereof. I’m not sure that the low percentage of players who main an engineer is a really huge problem, as in any MMO people usually prefer hunters, melee dps-types and mages.
It’s also true that engineer has a higher skill-floor than other professions. Some players will try out several professions for a few levels and just see which one feels the most powerful. And the winners were warrior and guardian for PvE, and thief and mesmer for PvP, at least in the few weeks following launch. In other words, a profession that feels amazing after two hours will have more players than a profession that takes a long time to feel amazing at.
Engineers have actually been getting a lot of attention in recent patches, some good. I’m not sure why none of the turret traits are being changed, since the devs are fully aware that turrets need major help and have practically devoted the last two patches to buffing specific turrets (while nerfing some other stuff…)
I see lots of engineers in WvW. Funny when I place Mortar and the engineer up on the tower does the same thing and fires at me.

Not asking for the turret traits to be changed, just “fixed” so they actually work again would be a big step in the right direction, as it is now, one of our class defining skills is useless, not working properly, since we cant use the turret traits.
I cant help but wonder how fast mesmer clones or ranger traps or guardian shouts or virtues would be fixed after they broke because of a patch.
im betting within 48 hours.

Just a few days ago in the mesmer forum, people were complaining that the izerker was only hitting up to 3 times instead of 4, even on stationary targets. The dev was straight in there, checking it out. Ok, yeah, that is probably a slightly frustrating problem and if true then not working quite as intended, but its still dishing out a bunch of damage. It’s still doing it’s job, just to a slightly less degree. Flame jet missing targets? Eh, the engi will learn to deal, like they always do.

for some reason, of which I REALLY don’t know why… engi is good for roaming/small havoc teams. They don’t provide much to a zerg, but still good for those small teams. But what about everything else? we suck balls.

I’d love to see this. I tried browsing twitch before but got tired of the 90% WvW games with either mesmer, ele, or thief. Got boring real fast.

I think we are the perverbial “hot potato” class. Given how simple tweaks to the engineer’s skills render all of the turret traits useless; you have to wonder how snarly the code is… (I.e now for laughs i shall comment my code in pig Latin, engineer traits all have -dilbert in the constants and all functions start by passing global variables to the dogbert() function (which always returns null)

Add in a limited understanding of the class and spillover balancing from high end PvP, and you end up with the challenges we have.
For such a fun class it’s a crying (but understandable) shame that we’re not better represented across GW2.

Right right, “fixed” is what I meant. Although “changed” wouldn’t hurt either. All I meant was, Anet has been so focused on improving turrets the last couple months that it is very odd that they’re leaving the traits broken for so long.
