Engi Bomb Build [WvW Montage] - Part 2 ADDED
Couple of questions:
1. Your build doesn’t seem to include Backpack Regenerator, but had this trait at least for some of the fights (definitely the opening fight). What did you drop for it, and is that something you take often?
2. What are the best ways you have found for handling the lack of stun breaker?

1. Yes I switch things up a lot. My build is always 4/2/0/4/2 and the last 2 points I either use backpack generator or short fuse. In the first clip I think I took short fuse and BR and dropped protection injection. It’s always a choice between those three. currently I run both PI and BR and dropped short fuse for some more sustainability.
2. Blinds and blocks. All kinds of CC will ruin your day in this build so as soon as I see a hammer warrior is coming at me I keep a close eye on him and use my blinds/blocks and own CC to keep him from stunning me.
It gets harder when they are ranged though… but at the end of the day you just gotta deal with it :/
It seems like IP proc did half the dmg :-).Reminds me,why i swaped to rifle+nade build.Still nice gameplay and was funn watching it
Awesome video! Some great fights and you handle the engi really well! Really enjoyed that, and good music too. Balthazar looks like a lot of fun.
Our builds are very similar except I usually switch between Rifled Barrels and Hair Trigger. And I use perplexity as it was soo much fun before the nerf :P. And T1 NA is always 1vx, so need all the advantages you can get.

Yea, I too switch between those, still can’t decide which one I like more :/
and unfortunately I just spend 70g on perpex runes for my terrormancer :P, so I’m sticking to balthazar for another little while…

Haha, with balthazar runes burning will be the most damage, but with perplexity its gonna be confusion :P Currently also running cele rifle + nades with HGH, going to make a video of that soon
I really don’t like rocket boots in wvw. They provide mobility and immobilize removal but for large scale fights they don’t have enough control. Also bombs are a melee range kit, while they provide tons of utility you are really limiting yourself with close quarter combat.

Sometimes we want fun for our play styles. I use EG/BK/RB and have a blast with it. I have developed a solid reputation for my 1vX skills, as well as my valuable support with my personal build preferences.
I hardly see the success in those videos as “limiting himself” This isn’t PvP, but you quoted the textbook PvP arguments against rocket boots or bomb kit.

people always take things so personally. Rocket boots are fine for roaming, I just don’t think they are very good in large scale battles. 40v40 with bombs and rocket boots just wont output the damage your zerg needs, it’s mostly for small scale havok or roaming.

Pro tip: Do not use derogatory descriptions, then follow it up by claiming other posters are taking things personal. If you are going to accuse someone of limiting themselves, It would help if you were demonstrating your own video, in which you are not limiting yourself, and doing better then they are. Other wise you come off as just a pompous, jealous guy, appearing to be hurt by someone elses success.
I am curious, about the damage part of your comment. I also enjoy running bombs. As it is well known that bomb kit has the highest damage out put of all of our kits, and weapons sets, what on earth are you talking about, when you claim bombs with rocket boots won’t have the damage out put needed? that statement just seems so contradictory to itself.
As well, why would you assume anyone is selecting rocket boots for its damage? Everyone I know uses it for its low cool down blast finisher, AoE burning, gap closing, and gap making.
As a engineer commander, I will gladly take bomb kit for its utility, superior damage, ease of application, and blast finisher, as well as RB.
Come on over to JQ sometime. I will be happy to show you how to play/think outside the box, and learn to leave the PvP meta builds in PvP and have some successful fun in WvW.

The problem I have with bomb kit in large-scale fights is its delayed damage. You aren’t going to hit the enemies you want to hit, nor are you going to hit them when you want to hit them. I think that’s what risenlord is referring to when he says that bomb kit doesn’t have the damage output needed. Even the blast finisher is heavily delayed.
The bomb kit can do huge AOE damage… if the enemy is standing where you want them to be. By the time a bomb explodes, your teammates will have dealt their damage already and the enemies will either be downed or no longer on the spot. Or at least that was my experience when I ran bombs in large-scale fights. You can adjust your playstyle to address this issue but I personally found it too much of a chore. If bombs work for you, then kudos. I just find that grenades work better for me because you can use them point-blank without much delay and you also have the choice to throw them from ranged. They do have less utility than bombs though, I’ll admit. Plus, you have the option to trait more defensively with bombs since you’re forced 30 into the Explosives line with grenades.
I agree that Rocket Boots are fine for large-scale fights though. Immobilizes can be deadly and the blast finisher is useful. Just learn to cancel it so you don’t fly off somewhere where you can be picked off.

But, did you see me go up against 40 people in the video? :P No, this is a roaming build, so the mobility and blast finisher is what makes rocket boots golden. And for zergs I would grab my nades and spam spam spam. But unfortunately I despise zergs :/
@everyone else: This is a roaming build, with a roaming video. No zergs to be found anywhere
Why are we talking about large fights about a roaming build again? >.> And how one of the few good gap closers the engineer has on a class that has poor access to mobility be useless in any situation?
Nice video.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

I found rocket boots to be to unpredictable for large scale fights. Some times rocket boots will fire me off in a random direction or stick upon landing. Especially when taking towers or keeps a regular stun break is more useful. Bombs can be used in close quarter combat but you’ll be sacrificing overall damage for survivability, to be able to use them on front line large scale battles. Scaling down the bomb damage considerably to be able to survive a zerg vs zerg, does not seem worth it to me.

It has been posted several times that no one cares what anyone thinks of rocket boots in “large scale” fights, in a thread dedicated to discussing a video about “roaming”.
