So I’ve had an engineer for a while but I really regret making him a sylvari. Seeing as ~50% map completion is pretty much the only thing going for him, i’ve decided to roll another engi to change races, but i’m super stuck between male human and charr and need a little help.

I don’t have a charr yet and i’d really like one, especially a charr engineer since it just fits into the lore so kitten well. Humans are the aesthetic choice, and that’s pretty important to me too. It’s pretty obvious that all the armor in the game was made with the human model in mind. They’re just so pretty (but so boring)

Which do you guys think is the best choice? Any opinions would be appreciated. I’m leaning toward the charr, but I’d like to know that I won’t regret that choice before I commit to it. Thanks!

For PVE, pick what you like.
For PVP/WVW, stay with your Sylvari or make the male human.

I always liked how Charrs look in heavy armor but not in medium unless he’s a thief.
If you do go with Charr make sure to use the lowest height. You’ll regret making him tallest.

As a charr engi:
Some animation looks weird, like using “one-handed” mortar shots.
And a lot of chest pieces especially coats and helmets doesnt fit well to charr, they are clipping with the tail and horns.
Some long rifles are clipping with the ground while holding.

I forgot to say that all back pieces are not on the “back” they look like they lie on the shoulder.

TBH It doesn’t really matter which one you choose, the lore with the Charr works perfectly and the aesthetic with the Human work really well. If you want both in the same package do an Asura Scrapper. The lore works really well (being an engineer requires a huge amount of knowledge and intelligence in which the Asura are known for) and the aesthetic can be amazing depending on your taste.

I do enjoy the asura aesthetic, and I don’t have an asura yet either, but my main concern is the small character model. I’m the kind of person that likes showing off armor and weapons, especially since engineers have access to so few. Do you as an asura player feel like your size impacts you a lot?

Also, seeing all of these amazingly attractive bad-kitten charr is inspiring you guys!

Is there anything more satisfying than a HUGE hammer, visible legendary HOPEs and a FT aa / fumigate twice as big as on other races? CHARR IT IS GOD kitten IT!

Good luck with your choice. I know its such a huge struggle sometimes. If your choice boils down to Human and Charr in the end, I would say Charr. But effectively the choice is all yours in the end.

If you like the lore aspect, Charr, but if you like having multiple outfits and armor skins look sexy, especially on a female form, then Human. Though this is personal preference really.

I don’t like Charr appearance personally so I made mine Human, and I don’t regret it cause I wanted something that I could draw my own manga images of my character to look like or when they eventually come out with better hair styles, make some of the anime characters I like from various anime shows. I can’t do that with Charr sadly.

To be honest I don’t care about his size. I like my Asura due to his personality and interest, not because of his size. I don’t care if my Asura is 10 feet tall or 4 feet tall, I just like the Asuran race due to their personality. I guess the smaller size will help you in unranked PvP where you’re smaller to see than a Norn or a Charr. However, you do lose track of yourself in a Tequatl burn, but who isn’t. A Norn can just as easily be lost in a Tequatl burn due to a lot people covering your screen. I haven’t got any feedback from my guild yet to see how my character looks from other people’s client, but like I said before I don’t regret my Asura Scrapper.

The only thing I kinda dislike about him is his face with his new armor. When I first created my character I didn’t care about aesthetics too much, but now in his new armor I kinda want to change it. Thankfully I have a Total Makeover Kit from a lucky Black Lion Chest opening (Thank you RNG for playing into my favor).

i have 3 engis but ive used every race before and i got sick of char after the first 2 days looks like shet but its personal preference

Rifle Autoattack “Hipshot” clips with most armor in the game on a charr.

I dunno why the OP is disillusioned. If GW2 history taught us anything, it’s that Sylvari engineers are the most dangerous of all. Charr engineers are dime a dozen.

the animations for chart engineer rock.

rocket charge is breathtaking.

that being said, I have three engineers only one of which is a charr- but not having a charr- engi is missing out. it’s such a fun and thumpy feel for the class. heavy impact.

You can achieve great asthetic results with Charr, you just have to try harder. I’ll post some screensbots tomorrow night when I’m back on, but in the meantime you better be making a Charr Engineer.

If you use racials, charr have many engineering themed racials that are fun and even somewhat useful.

I have asura and hammer is so small…..and I hate it.

So I made Norn female….and I like her better with huge Juggernaut smashing

I hate design of charr race, but my main is female charr engi. And i can’t imagine what better race i can choose for this great proffesion :-) I vote charr!! "For iron legion! "
