Hey I am an avid pvp (heart of the mists) player with over 2000 skirmishes played in PuGs alone. for all the chaos i enjoy it a lot. I thought I’d share a combo that I have recently come to love that may work for you, feel free to critique or add on to this thread any combos that you have come back to frequently in pvp or pve, listing skills and a bit about your player stats (pwr, crit, etc).

My Strategy relies on combo fields. Engineers have a variety of ways creating combo fields (e.g. Smoke Bomb for invis., Fire Bomb for might, Super Elixir [light field] for retaliation) with the use of blast finishers— we get boons and they get conditions. Turrets, Gadgets, BoB, all great for blast finishers—in fact we are the only class that has a healing move that is also a combo finisher, Which is awesome. (I feel like that gets overlooked a lot . . .)

I stay in full power gear with a result of 3100 power, while fully traited in Alchemy with HGH. I can stack might for 20 stacks very easily with combo fields, often when I engage in battle my power is at 3500-3600 from might stacking, with strong durations. My power isn’t lacking here although my crits happen on occasion, they are pretty mean (using Valkyrie).

My general key bashing- What I do is hang on the point briefly, lay a smoke bomb and using rocket boots (blast finisher) I get off the point and clear any targeting on me from invis, by the time im up invis is down. then, fire bomb and big ol bomb, there is a pause there for them to go off, where I change to toolkit, magnet someone off the point, then they are knock back, i gain might, (I also have Kit refinement, so they are also laying on nails when I switch to the kit..) Then it is wrench time, as they lay there, I have the opportunity to smack them in the face with pry bar.. Often in fights I am biding my time for that one illustrious destructive combo, and really there isn’t much other players can do about it. people don’t seem to get the dodge timing right for magnet, which is greatI usually have to be creative when it comes to the stomp, but make sure the stomp is made one way or another.

This is one strategy I return to which has been a good one for me, provided that you keep on a target, and there are a million and one different ways I think combo fields make the engineer pretty mean for u and your team. GL to engineers out there.

How are you getting power this high in sPvP?

Using Valkyrie, which is a maxed power trinket in the Mists (like Berserker), you will get around 3k pwr regardless of your trait line.

3k including Weapon Power.

really good combo, i enjoy playing with the combo fields on engi, im traited and geared towards lots of damage and also using the Hgh elixir for epic amounts of stacks, any way you should try using the elixir u ability, what i like to do with it is knock down the target drop smoke bomb, toss elixir u then elixir u and sit in the combo field (more of a wall lol) smashing a helpless target with massive damage attacks from my rifle, all the walls can be pritty handy, kinda circumstantial for the reflection wall since it only cures conditions but the other 2 walls are brilliant in any fight, any way my gears normally all berserker’s , with my avarage attack value (with stacks) is 3600 and a 64% chance to crit with fury up, terrible tank but you dont really need it the first 2 evades is normally enough to avoid the initial attacks people like to throw down

I also really enjoy the toss elixir U but Ive neverput it in a combo field like smoke bomb, that is a nifty idea facing other high damage players! I like hanging out with p/s, so my damage isn’t quite as good when taking Elixir u with just pistols… Underwater tho, is a different story

ahhhhh p/s love that don’t normally use it for solo fighting but when im with some buddy’s in WvW i take elixir R, flamethrower kit and bomb kit for epic cc and all those combo fields for my team mates the toss elixir r is great for reviving team mates as well, also they haven’t fixed the tool tip for toss elixir r yet but it does drop a light combo field as well as revive so there’s a handy 6 second condition removal for the ranged team mates

What I like to do is use FT and EG with P/S. With the blast of your #4 shield you can give everyone around you retalitation or might. Pretty helpful, not to mention being able to sit and heal in your own EG combo field while curing conditions on you makes it a very useful tool.

I just wish that FT #3 was a blast finisher as well as a pushback. Now THAT would be good!
